I am getting so exicted about the release of this game that i needed somesort of fix to hold me over. First I played a little of the original again, but now I have just purchace the Gold edition of 1701 AD. This is a city builder type game (akin to the Casear series). So far its been a good game with excellent graphics. Anyone else playing something with a colonial feel to it just to hold them over until Colonization get released?

You are probably as familiar as I am with PC games that are similar in some respects to Colonization, so I won't suggest any.

However, I just finished reading Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick which might take the edge off your appetite. Beginning in the early 1600s, I found it to be an interesting read. Perhaps you will enjoy it as well.

1602 AD? or was it 1501 AD? I dunno, some kind of colonial city game.

1502, 1603, and 1701 are all part of the same series. I played 1502, it was great, never played 1603, but 1701 is fantastic. Beautiful graphics, good economic simulator, fun city builder.

For my Colonization Fix, I play FreeCol. http://freecol.org

The graphics are sub-par, but it's still fun, and is a good way to keep in practice for the real deal coming out soon.

Unless the fix is injected directly to my veins I think I have to just wait that another month.

I played the demo for 1502 and thought it was awesome. Unfortunately, I was in Afghanistan at the time, and the only store we had access to had a great deal of Xbox games, but no computer games (at least I don't remember seeing any). Freakin' AAFES.

Had to survive on Civ2 for a few months there, and when I came back I just never got around to buying the full version of 1502. Bet it was good though.

Thanks for that. I agree, the graphics aren't the best, but you can't really expect that for a free online game. I've started a game playing as the English, and I'm now at 1710. I haven't declared independence yet, and for a good reason (I only have two colonies, 5 soldiers, 1 cannon, and 2 dragoons; this is compared to my mother country's Royal Expeditionary Force of nearly 30 soldiers, 20 cannon, and 15 dragoons, lol. ). I don't really see how I'm going to hold them off, but I'm slowly working on it. However, my progress keeps coming to a screeching halt because of the Iroquois, who are about 2 squares away and are relentlessly attacking my colonies. I finally had to teach them a lesson by destroying their closest village, but they haven't learned. Well back to the game...

The same here. Oh my God! I'm beginning to feel like a vampire thirsting for fresh blood. I'm not finished with playing Civ IV by any means, but Colonization II is preying on my mind. Was this how Spike felt when trying to choose between Buffy and Drusilla?

You kidding? I've even busted out my copy of Gold of the Americas!!! :crazyeye:

I've got a COL '94 game going now, Gov level, 12 fully developed/pioneered colonies, about to tell King George where he can go stick his taxes... ;)

You know - those who never played the original Colonization don't know what they have been missing. Now it seems they'll get introduced to the game by way of an an improved, but not drastically changed version. They'll have a ball. :)

Well, so of course will I.
