Everyone's just so nice and for once I feel confident. I'm not shy anymore. I know what I'm doing, I believe in myself, and I know I can do anything I set my mind to.

It's a community college. My dad and his brothers all went here, my grandparents went here, and my great grandparents went here. It used to be called Okaloosa-Walton College, but it's just turned into a four-year college, so they changed the name to Northwest Florida State College.

I'm having the best month of my life, girls are all over me, i'm getting my house IN A WEEK (woohoo), and the civ game i just started is looking up

I went to a new barber shop today. It's run by these 2 Eastern European guys. The guy I got is clearly the owner and not the greatest barber in the world. The other guy I watched, and he definitley is more expirienced. I got a pretty good haircut, but he didn't go the extra mile. Hopefully I can get the other guy next time.

Either way, I'm probably going to make this place my permanent barber shop, because it's 3 dollars cheaper and in a part of town I like a lot better, so I want to support business there. They were also nice to me.

I just arrived in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

After spending something like 3 weeks in the US, it's simply amazing how "at home" I feel here. Everything is so clean and orderly, people are having fun everywhere, there's live music at the corner of every street, I'm staying right near the old center, the river and the castle-on-a-hill, my flight went perfect (no delays, no lost baggage, no problems at the border, no secondary security checks), and I'm going to have a concert in two days and everything seems to be going great about it. People are respecting me around here and I'm overall having a great time. Oh and I forgot to mention the girls - I just love the Balkans and the countries around them (since Slovenia is not exactly in the Balkans, but just out - and completely out when it comes to the level of civilization :p).

It's been good to spend time with the relatives. Living close to family is a refreshing change :)

This rave goes out to Philippe. Some days are worse than others, and it is sometimes easy to forget there are human beings on the other end of these typed out messages we enter here on the forums. I'm finally done my AP Bio essay, and AP Bio classes have started (I like the teacher alot, he's really good and teaches REALLY well so you can understand it easily)

Spamming goes in OT. You all know it. RAVE: I slept for 10 hours in a night for the first time in recent memory.

I love my speech and music theory professors. Those are two classes I'm going to thoroughly enjoy, and I get four semesters of music theory with the same professor!

Oh man, college is so much better than high school in so many more ways than one.

Everyone's so much nicer and more friendly. It's quite refreshing. :)

And I've been offered an internship/tech training at CVS for pharmacy, which is awesome! My grandfather, like the amazingly kind and thoughtful person he is, went in and talked to the pharmacists/managers while I was at school so all I have to do is pick my starting date now, and I'm set.

I don't know why I didn't move up here sooner. I was offered the chance while in high school, but I didn't even consider it because I had a reason to stay where I was.

The love of being here and the happiness that associates with it just never seems to wear off. The everlasting rave! (that only lasts two years, unless I decide to take advantage of it becoming a 4 year institution and then hit the pharmacy school they're building 20 minutes away from home! :D)

Two of my three classes on my MWF schedule cancelled until next Wednesday, including the really early one. :D

My college is talking about closing down the school Tuesday/Wednesday 'cause of Gustav. By the looks of it, it's going to hit here pretty hard if it by some chance continues on the path it's going now. I was under the impression it meant 'listening skills'. My professors use those two (or three) words interchangeably.

aural is pertaining to the ear/listening, oral is pertaining to the mouth/speaking.

ie in my french class we used to have a written exam, an oral exam (speaking), and an aural exam where we would listen to a story and answer questions on it.

and for us, we have to sight sing a short excerpt.

for the aural part, we have to listen to the professor play intervals on the piano and figure out what kind of intervals they are....and that's a really poor way of explaining it but the correct words aren't coming at the moment.

Yes, though I believe there is only one A level course at my old high school right now since the Cambridge program is fairly new there, and I think it's A Biology (which just started this year), but we're allowed to take A level tests for things like English/lit, history, and thinking skills if we want to and think we're ready to.

Well, A-levels aren't very common here; we have APs and IB instead. Ansar talks about them all the time, but I've never heard of them off this site, except when colleges were discussing international students. It might be a regional thing, or it could just be that they're very new here.

Just to prove an example, I went to a scheme which is pretty unique in the country where the sixth forms of three state schools plus the local college combined to provide as many subjects as possible, but they remained fairly bad schools. I did A-levels, therefore, with about 700+ other people. One single person was accepted into Oxbridge.

Well, Oxford is my top target, as you have probably deduced, and I hope it is achievable with my predicted grades and my latest AS results - 5 As. I am also looking at Bristol, Warwick and UCL. The UCAS process has just started, as you probably would assume, so my target universities could change.

Anyway I went to Imperial, which is full of people who "didn't want to go to Oxbridge anyway." In all seriousness, I'm glad I went to Imperial, because London wins. At the end of the day, a degree is just a piece of paper with "I'm overqualified" written on it.

Oxford now suscribe to this "new thinking" when it interviews potential students; questions like "how would you measure the volume of a cow" etc.

Well, I planned to apply to do Mathematics at Cambridge (but didn't in the end), and was told that as well as two extra Maths tests (one of which I still ended up doing :crazyeye:) I'd have to do a Politics/Philosophy/Economics test involving, IIRC, 50 multiple choice questions and an essay, and there would also be an interview involving questions renowned for being either a) trick questions designed to catch you out*, or b) questions on subjects other than the one you'd applied for (so I, as a Maths applicant, would still be expected to answer a Sociology or Chemistry question fluently).

{*One of the practice questions I did was 'How many animals did Moses take aboard the ark?' I knew the answer to this one, and wrote 'None, Noah was the one with the ark' with a smug little grin on my face, followed by a bit of waffle about the Old Testament being allegory and the size of the ark and whether Noah would have wanted living space or not.

Of course, the actual answer was: 'Moses did have an ark - the Ark of the Covenant.' :huh:}

1. Yes, but like most universities (all unis bar OxBridge, in fact), the interview was just an excuse to get you to go to the uni, check out the faculty, meet current students and entice you to go.

2. Nope. There might be now though (I applied in 2002).

3. Err, they're all geeks, and there's twice as many boys as girls. Also, the Union SUCKS. But it's London, and there's like a million universities in London, so student nights at clubs > anything Imperial has to offer social-wise.

4. Physics.

5. Food/bills/travel is not a problem, but rent is like 2-3 times what you'd be paying anywhere else in the country. It's easily the biggest money-sink...

6. Good :) Imperial grads have among the best job opportunities in the country, I've been told. When I joined, I was told that the average Imperial graduate salary was £20k, which was 33% higher than the UK average graduate salary. I don't know what the numbers are now. Imperial is now the 5th best university in the world, and its name ("brand") carries more weight than ever. Certainly more than Warwick or Bristol anyway ;)

But as I kinda implied, any good degree from a good university will get you a good job.

Because slapping your balls down on the desk of the interviewer may go down well in Cardiff university, but it's frowned upon in Oxbridge.

I *ahem* didn't do very well at one of the interviews, is what I meant. I didn't receive any feedback, but I'm pretty sure that's why I didn't get in. And yeah, they do ask stupid questions :p

UNBELIEVABLE, but I just finished the score for the song I've been working on since LATE SPRING!!

(okay, I've been away from my country for about 2 months during this time, and I don't have a laptop, so I was not THAT slow) I just have to do some minor adaptations to the end and build the lyrics on the ideas I have already, and not only the score will be finished, but the whole thing, and it would only need to be performed and recorded after that. :D

It's almost 8 minutes long, and it's made for a 5-person band and full orchestra (actually, my own version of an extended orchestra). YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know if i tried i wouldn't, but I just severely dislike most of the players. On top of that most of them are very cocky despite the fact that we haven't won a play off games in several years, were 4-6 last year and currently 0-3. If anyone lives in Ohio and wathces high school football they might actually have heard of us, Jay Circosta(aka Jaysus Circhrista) is our coach and he is well known throughout they area.

A 1995 Toyota Corolla with 137K miles. No buyer's remorse, except that I am now a Car Owner. Also, it vibrates when stopped, which didn't show up during the test drive. But no big.

Also: turns out I haven't figured out how to turn off the radio. Now obvious power button or anything. And so today, while moving it on the street where it is parked, I heard something on the radio that threatened to make me angry all day. But then on the bus on the way to work, some random girl who was far, far too cheerful for 7:30 AM started talking to everyone on the bus about how we all need to be happy or something, and it somehow managed to unanger me.

Well, so I will take the other bus then.

I will complete all of my academic requirements for my major *this quarter*, which means I can either go part time the rest of the year and save some bread, or pick up a minor. I am still on track to get my diploma in May.
