I have never played Colonization, but considering how much i like Civ and its expansions i will buy Civ:Col the same day it is released.

I have some questions for whoever has played original colonization or has read something about that.......

1)Will Natives be really different? Like having different UU and UB?

2)Will Natives have different art for their units?

3)Can they give you some headache militarily, or they just have obsolete units which you can easily destroy with some musketmen?

4)Will they have some specific abilities, like Aztecs have Improved Tobacco Farmer while Iroquois Improved Miner?

I've never played the original, but I'll try and help you the best I can.

2. I'm not exactly sure what you mean (if you're asking if they'll look different, then yes), but hopefully these links might answer your question:

3. From what I've read, I don't know about easily, but since they only have bow and arrows, spears, and clubs, and you have guns it shouldn't be that difficult (but they do of course have superior numbers). However if you (or someone else) begin to trade with them and you/they give them guns and they turn against you, I imagine that they'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Maybe someone more knowlegable could elaborate. :)

give them guns and horses and theire units are as good as your untrained musketmen on flat land. and they are much better if fighting in rough terrain since they get theire huge ambush bonus.
Spain is of course 25% better vs all native units in all fights in col 2.

Do not go to war with a huge native tribe in colonization 2 with huge amounts of guns. It is simply suicide. If a native player has alot of guns you will need to outnumber the native tribe, or have some seriously battlehardened spanish troops.

I read in one of the articles about a Native unit killing a colonist and picking up his gun and about them attacking with overwhelming numbers so they won't be so easy to defeat. On the other hand you will probably be able to turn them against each other. As for buildings I believe they have none so no UBs as well.

1. well , wouldn't be surpriced if they have (several prehaps) UU and an UB, but at the same time ... in the original they was a mixture between Barb's and an normal AI player, with clearcut diffences between both of them

2. sure they will ... would be a major disappointment, if they don't

3. innitially they have obsolete units but when they get their hands on some guns or horses (one of the colonial powers gifting them, selling them or the natives stealing them, from a town or units dead hands).

4. if its going the same way as the original each native city will have thier specific proffesion decited at least to some degree after which areas they have around them

Natives won't be playable, unless they package a sub-mod. Basically natives are like a goodie hut that acts like a mini-market/school until you piss them off (or your enemy provokes them) and reap a war with. There's also a little political-religion affilitation game you play with them (kind of like religions in Civ4).

What they should do is make a native civ with variable leaderheads of different tribes with the goal of confederating all the goodie hut tribes to gain cities.
