For those that are going to PAX 2008, you might want to tweak your schedule a little bit! Spore will be exhibited on Sunday, 2:30pm - 3:30pm so make arrangements.

I was going to just go on Saturday but after finding this out, I'll return on Sunday to watch. :D

Damn you and your American birthright! I'm not flying 8000 miles to go to a games convention... No matter how much I want to. :(

Aw that's alright! You get it 2 days earlier! Remember? :D ;)

I've been looking into getting a camcorder anyway so maybe I'll try to sneak some video out, although it'll be poor quality etc.

You work on Sundays? :mischief:

Cool! Bring that camera, take good pictures and I'll post them on my blog too. If that's OK with you, of course.

Hmm, I'm in Victoria, BC right now, but I'm in no position to get into the States right now.

My heart is with you in Seattle guys!

Right now I'm waiting for the Fallout 3 presentation. The line is HUGE! I'm going to have to come in earlier than half an hour to get a good seat for Spore!

If I'm even to get into the Spore presentation, I'm going to have to get there an hour early. But there were two stations that allowed people to play Spore though! It was awesome! The warfare is simple but it probably was on easy mode.

So you've managed to play it?

leonel

Nope. It was packed with people wanting to play it too. I'll try to play it today.

Got as many pics/vids as possible please! And on Friday I'll taunt you when I eventually get it!

It is roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes until the Spore demo and I'm third in line. I'm not having a repeat of Fallout 3!

My battery is about to die but it's only half an hour until we go in. The line doesn't look as bad as Fallout yesterday but it's going to be standing room!

I'll definitely come back with a report afterwards! :D

Oh! PS; Creature abilities are hotkeyed so you don't have to move the mouse down. It's kind of like World of Warcraft in terms of moving and attacking. :)

I'm back! I'll do my best to recollect!

Some guy named Matt Porter or something to that effect was demoing the thing. The intro is basically the first part of this Youtube from the EA games logo to the galaxy scene but before doing the blurred zoom;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVH9Q8M8eaQ

The galaxy screen has various planets to start on but he started a creature that hatched out of the meteor. He went around and started eating vegetable matter at first and this caused the progress bar on the bottom to progress. Each time the progress bar reached a certain marker, the creature would get bigger and more of the environment would be shown. The limited scope of environment for the cell stage was done on purpose as you aren't as evolved but as you grow, you become less transparent and more defined. You can eat other critters in one gulp if they're small enough but you attack equal sized critters like you would in the creature stage and regen health through eating. He also swapped out some creature parts, going to the filter feeding mouth but going back to the carnivore mouth later on.

After being chased by some poisonous creatures, he skilled ahead and went to the creature stage and played around with attacking critters and sneaking. At this point you can see the day/night effects of the planet. The night sky is very dynamic and you can see the stars and planets move across the sky as night turns to day turns to night! His critter eventually starved to death after being chased away by a bigger critter.

At this point, he skipped to the tribal stage where he hunted for food. At this point, you're hunting food to supply the village as it's continuously draining food but at a low amount. When he got enough food, he clicked on the main hut and he could either make more babies or buy an axe shop. He made two babies before buying an axe shop and outfitting his creatures with axes. He then went to a neighboring tribe and proceeded to kill off the occupants. The primary objective in terms of conquering a village is to destroy the main hut. If the main hut is destroyed, they can't make any more babies and thus die off. All the while, if you leave your village empty, other lower life forms will try to raid your food stores so leave some behind to guard.

It was at this point he ended the demonstration, much to everyone's displeasure. Surprisingly the hour had already passed as everyone was already so engrossed with watching it! But it'll come out in a week! (sooner for some lucky devils )

Oh, hell yes, I do. But I've waited since March, 2006, when the 'SPORE: SimEarth Game' thread began, so I can wait one more week.

my camera wasn't working on Sunday.

:(

It looked really fun. The funniest part of the entire demo was how bloodthirsty the crowd was, shouting things like "Kill it!"

Oh! I forgot to mention one more thing. There are some planets that have been hand created by an art person at Maxis but the rest of the planets are randomly generated so it's a mix between the two.
