View Full Version : My New High Score!
TheStealthRhino Aug 30, 2008, 11:50 PM 16552!
A space race victory on a custom continents map.
I'm sure this isn't the highest score ever, but for me, this was a huge victory.
Viva la Civilization!
DMOC Aug 31, 2008, 12:02 AM Congratulations.
For a higher score, try shooting for a domination win. More land=higher score.
Kalyse Aug 31, 2008, 08:54 AM My highest is 69k with a victory in 580BC :) I always either get 20k.. 40k or 60k, but never higher then 60k any more.
Silbeg Aug 31, 2008, 09:00 AM Higher scores come with increased difficulty...
My best scores (over 100k) all came on Prince, and I just got a 96k Monarch victory.
Matthew5117 Aug 31, 2008, 09:09 AM I've gotten around 90k on Prince, it was a conquest victory with Rome, once I had Praetorians I attacked everyone one on the single land mass continent, it was also only 5 civs.
Siesta Guru Aug 31, 2008, 04:54 PM My best used to be 80k on prince for ages (domination with shaka), then i started a game with settngs to make the game the easiest for me on monarch, regenerated the crap out of the map and got 150k with a domination win, yay! :king:
The start had 2 riverside gold, cows, and horse in the bfc while playing as darius ... Rushed 3 ais with the immortals, then a few more with maces + trebs and I ended by killing a few more with rifles and cannons in 1200AD
Yeh the regenrating was a bit cheaty... but it was extremly fun.
Matthew5117 Aug 31, 2008, 06:28 PM I regenerate a lot, I wish I didn't though but thanks to Civfanatics, I learned that I could. :( Oh well, it's nice to have gold, fish and stone in your BFC.
Soneji Sep 01, 2008, 08:43 AM 120k on Prince is my best, conquest circa late 1800's.
miked1991 Sep 01, 2008, 11:43 AM Is it just me who takes no notice of the score at the end? All I care for is winning the game on the highest skill level I possibly can!

Sometimes you know victory is yours many turns before the game is actually won. In these situations, the score can act as a motivation to keep playing and finishing the game. However, if you are realise victory is yours way too early, you should probably move up a difficulty level.
I think my best score was a domination victory on emperor wich wich gave me a little above 300k.

I also don't worry about my score.
If I win, or meet my objectives (or learn lessons in defeat) I am satisfied.
zygissimo Sep 03, 2008, 08:19 AM Wow, that is unbelievable. Be best score is only around 6000, and that is on noble. I ve never won a conquest and diplomatic victory. I play at noble, couse I like to win. In late era at noble i am ahead against second AI by about 1500 points. When I play at prince in late eras I am one of the mid civilizations... puny :) I must have BTS, couse I;ve been playing odl civ4. Will buy today, hope everythin will be ok.
Joshua368 Sep 03, 2008, 08:29 AM My record score so far is in my last game, where I played Hapshepsut on a Pangaea map on monarch. I managed to get a domination win in 1840, after building peacefully for most of the game (bar a smaller war in the medieval era). Got around 80,000 points... not going to break any records, but domination is fun.

Your likely mixing the ingame score and the score you get when winning, this score is normalized to account for game difficulty, finish date, and some other factors ( i think map size matters, but im not sure)
Pacifist46 Sep 03, 2008, 02:56 PM My record score is around the 90k mark - domination with j caesar on prince on a standard fractal map. By no means was it my best game ever though

Keep playing on Prince even though you are behind in points. It doesn't mean anything! It is also nice to have a challenge though.
Kalyse Sep 03, 2008, 10:31 PM Can soemone explain how to point farm?
killmeplease Sep 03, 2008, 11:33 PM my record is 200+k, emperor conquest

Can you elaborate on points not meaning anything? I realize you can still win if not at highest score, but doesn't another civ with a high score indicate that they are doing SOMETHING significantly better than you? I usually don't worry if I am behind in points earily on. The most important thing to me is maintaining a tech lead. But if I'm not at least very close to the top score mid to late game, I'll probably just quit.
I dunno, I guess I've gotten to the point where I don't so much enjoy challenge as much as just playing and seeing how quickly I can stomp everyone else out. It has taken a lot of the stress out of the game for me. I used to get really frustrated because games against AI either seemed ridiculously hard or ridiculously easy. Either the AI seemed to be cheating or they were completely stupid. There didn't seem to be real challenge. Only human players can provide that, IMO.

Nope, wrong!
Unless you're going for domination or conquest, in which case there may be a problem in your strategy. :p
Aside from the small benefits from techs/wonders/religions, most of the score comes from population, which the AI gets automatic benefits for, with high caps and farm happy tactics (and perhaps faster growth speed, I dunno). At any rate, you may need to expand more, but really score means squat as long as you know what you're doing and how to manage your land.
Plus if someone ever gets a vassal they automatically get half of the vassals points and that really throws the scoreboard off.
I'm with the guy who said he doesn't even notice the score screen until I win the game. If I'm leading, great, but it pretty much just marks the largest civ (or the one with the most vassals). During the course of the game I find the tech trading screen (in BtS; before that the screen sucks) is much better to track my progress with. ;)
Siesta Guru Sep 05, 2008, 03:27 AM If your aiming for alot of points, what would be better to get your score up if victory is certain and you dont really have to build anything, get your citys pop levels up as much as possible (by removing all specialists and getting max food everywhere) or teching teching alot? Obviously the combination is the best but which should be preferred if you have to choose between more food or more commerce/research/money?
(not that im aiming for high scores anymore, but im just wondering)
Kevie Sep 08, 2008, 06:25 PM My best score was 120k on noble standard domination win by 1600 ish.
i was proud of that ^^
LegionSteve Sep 08, 2008, 06:37 PM In my last game I got by far my highest score ever. 220,124 conquest victory. Playing Rome on the Earth 18 scenario is just ridiculous
GIDS888 Sep 09, 2008, 06:57 AM 90K Domination on Terra at Prince level is my best - I average mid 70K's mostly.
I only look at the score at the end, oftentimes a game that's really fun will have a cr@p score, so I don't pay much attention there!
Corneh Sep 09, 2008, 07:04 AM i got 169k score on a marathon domination game with persia <3 on monarch difficulty. its quite a leap from my previeus 60k high score.
PS.
its all thanks to civfanatics forums <3 u guys!
ZauberTigga Sep 09, 2008, 11:51 AM My highest is a 1510ad 248k huge map domination score with Gilgamesh of Sumeria :D
PS Monarch difficulty, marathon speed.
brades Sep 11, 2008, 02:08 PM ive had 3 100k plus scores, 2 domination by the 1800s, and one diplo one in the 1500s (it was a cheesy diplo win as I had 54% of population and was friends with the only AI that wasn't vassal). My highest score though was a 150k win with the khmer where I won via domination in 1780 or so. These were all on emperor/standard map size/epic speed. However, high score isn't all that good of an indicator as it's tied to land/pop which is pretty much only acquirable via conquest.
