View Full Version : Two Greetings by Furious Leaders
Öjevind Lång Sep 01, 2008, 02:17 PM Montezuma: "Tell me, Severus, what did the Roman people do to displease the gods so that they made you their leader?"
Shaka: "So you have emerged from your fetid country and come to me, Canute. To what do I owe this extremely dubious honour?"

You must have been really mean to Gandhi for him to say that. I've had Monty say it to me a few times.

Nah, I have them say that all the time.

But Gandhi? Hes not usually hostile.
jerVL/kg Sep 02, 2008, 03:37 AM But Gandhi? Hes not usually hostile. The AI's a bit quirky with greetings. For example:

There is some excellent custom xml around that changes the greetings to more historically orientated ones. One of Gandhi's welcome phrases is "Welcome to India, your name. I am Gandhi. Remember: strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will." which is loads better than him sprouting on about sacrificing warriors IMHO.
But Gandhi? Hes not usually hostile.
Obviously your not demanding enough tribute from him.

I'm afraid I don't quite know what you mean. If you are referring to the fact that leader comments have been discussed before, I did look for at thread to psot this to, but I failed to locate one. I hope you understand that I just wanted to share the fun.

I remember an interview with Soren Johnson before the release of vanilla Civ IV. On the subject of designing the leaders, he said: "Gandhi is kind of tricky. We try to make him nice, but he's still kind of cranky." No doubt the AI doesn't like the restraints imposed on Gandhi in Civ IV; as you'll remember, in Civ III Gandhi was more likely than any other leader to start a nuclear war if his other victory options ran out. Perhaps this is why the designers of Civ Iv decided that his greeting on first contact should be: "We are looking for peace with all civilizations, even really annoying ones like yours." That's the Mahatma's little revenge for not being permitted to start wars with you out of the blue any longer, and being so forgiving and all.
Even so, they did give Gandhi the option to start to hate you if you consistently treat him outrageously.

Don't mind him. He's just grumpy because you're not running his favorite civic at the moment.
Genv [FP] Sep 02, 2008, 06:15 PM I hate it when a civ starts running his fav civic after it becomes obsolete for me.
