Hello all; CivIV BTS is definitely a fun and exciting game. I'm no expert at it. I've tried to control the workers and the govern each city myself, but I'm just not as good as the computer, so I've been letting the computer do these things, except for of course when it comes to constructing buldings, workers, military, and so forth. I've also been playing at the Warlord level, which seems well suited for me right now as it doesn't seem too easy or too difficult.

Anyway, about the title of this thread, I was able to win a diplomatic victory the other day. I did this by making all the other computer controlled civilizations vassels to my empire, with the exception of Ghandi, and then constructing the United Nations toward the end of the game. Needless to say everybody was furious with me, not only for me making them my vassel, but also for having the Christianity religion. I played this game as Kublai Khan, my favorite leader because of his traits. I've also won a few other games
with cultural and space race victories. My scores, however, were always between 5000 and and 8000 points, not very good.

If some of you veteran players have any advice for me on what improvements to build on certain plots using the workers and also with assigning specialists it would be much appreciated; thanks.

First of all, welcome to the forums. :)
Other than a little tweaking, when I was playing Warlord games I usually let the "Governor" handle most of the city management. Obviously, you build the units and buildings that you need. (Others can advise you better on this topic, I'm still learning). Also, I never automate my workers until I have all of the improvements I want built, and I have a road connecting each city/resource. Then I automate and the workers build roads and railroads, and when they are done they sleep in a city. I have the setting "Automated workers leave improvements." set in the game options.
This worked fine on Warlord, but doesn't work as well on Noble. You need to micro manage more the higher you go. I got to the point that I was winning 80 to 85% of my games at Warlord using this strategy. There are some good discussions on the forums about cottage and specialist economies, corporations and so forth that will take your game further. Check 'em out.
As for the score, the sooner you win the game the higher your score will be. ;)

And congratulations are in order, too.

Yeah, ignore that 'end-game' score mechanism. It rewards quicker finishes moreover than anything else. I like playing into the future era and having a couple civs with nukes at odds with one another. I'll still be over 3x higher in score (in game) than my next rival, but if I finish in the year 2000+, my score won't go higher than 19 or 20 thousand and if I finish past 2050, forget it, I'll be lucky to get above 10,000

Some people measure by score, others by how much fun they had. It all depends on you. If you're having fun but are finishing with 5000-8000 score, maybe if you finished with 50000 score, you wouldn't be having as much fun... food for thought.
