View Full Version : Funniest thing to happen in Spore

I've started this thread for people to post about the funniest thing that has happened to you / seen by you in Spore.

For me, I was in creature phase and battling it out with a species. Suddenly they literally all scattered and ran away. I saw a shadow pass over me and looked up. There was a UFO.

I got abducted!

BTW, some of the missions you get in the space phase involve abducting creatures from other planets. So it's good to know that you can suffer from the same things that you can do to other planets when you get to space phase. :)

I think the only thing funnier would have been if you were trying to charm them, then the ran away.

I've been watching some spore streams, and at times notice a huge shadow pass over. (I think one had a flying epic creature) What happens when you get abducted? Do you "die"? Or spawn on a new planet?

You're reborn at your nest. Same as dieing.

I read about the same thing happening to a previewer in the tribal phase. He was about to attack an enemy tribe, when a ufo flew over and abducted one of his soldiers. That's something you don't see in AOE.:D

Well it happened to me again just now. And I was fast enough to pause to get screenies of it. :)

This time in Tribe, and one of my guys got zapped off.

Yeah, having the game ruined by alien invaders is not an exciting prospect.

Given that one of the facts of this game is that life is nearly everywhere, it's not really all that surprising.

Yeah, but aliens usually don't pop in to visit in the one sample we have.

Losing one tribe member out of 12 is not "game ruined". Also, if you get zapped away in creature, then you don't die, you're reborn where you left off. So it's not ruining the game.

But then when you hit space you can do it to every planet you find too. :mischief:

How is it immersion breaking? Let me count the ways.

Seriously, you're playing a game on the tribal mode, where you have creatures running around, occasionally attacking different peoples, generally growing through the phases of societies until the dawn of agriculture and civilization... Your people are in the middle of cracking another people's skulls wide open, then suddenly a giant UFO appears over you and abducts you.

Now maybe it's just me, but having a giant spaceship abduct your creatures isn't what I associate with the story of the human race, and it isn't what I'd like to associate with the story of my race, either.

I noted to you in private conversation that it's no different than your tribe believing that some sky god carried away the shaman- maybe a sign that you should be a religious civilization of some sort. The game, I believe, will be much more fun if you roleplay it, as I intend to do.

Although I doubt i'll get the game, I do have a question: Could you destroy a spaceship in the tribe or civ. stages? I'd find that pretty awesome if you could.

Seriously, you're losing tribesmen so fast anyways you don't even notice the addition of one extra loss. To take over another tribe (~6 warriors plus the rest civil) you'll probably lose ~15 of your own. So you'll be doing about three waves per tribe. Though this does depend on how strong that species is, and how "combat orientated" they are.

Now maybe it's just me, but having a giant spaceship abduct your creatures isn't what I associate with the story of the human race, and it isn't what I'd like to associate with the story of my race, either.

And maybe I'm a God-botherer who doesn't believe in evolution and this whole game is a massive slap-in-the-face to me?

Seriously mate, it's just a game. If it bothers you so much, don't get it. :)

It's not the loss of the creature, and it's not gameplay mechanics. It's immersion.

So are you asking if it's a distraction from the primary course? I don't think so. Because the primary course is to evolve into those UFO's. And seriously, a lot of missions in the space phase revolve around eliminating or abducting our species of creature/tribe/civ. So in reality, it's another species that is ahead of you in the game.

I don't see it as immersion, but more a goal or focus. As in "I'm gunna get you back for that!"

EDIT: do == don't

Well me its the exact opposite, the idea that there ARE other evolutions on different planets, that got to space age faster than us makes complete sense. An in mean that in RL sense.

North King
Sep 05, 2008, 10:36 AM
Yeah, but they don't visit here. No confirmed spaceships from another planet have been seen in our skies. Forgive me if I hold the game to a high standard, but I was really looking forward to this, and would rather shape a culture in a realistic way than have spaceships swoop in and abduct people.

I don't see it as a break in immersion at all. Matter of fact, I see it as something that adds to the development of your society's myths and religion!

I was trying to please a species, and then they all ran away. I noticed that my creature was in the middle of a huge meteor shower! Luckily, I came out unscathed, and made some allies out of it too. :D

I would point out that this UFO thing happens in a time before historical records, so it is possible that this kind of thing happened in early Earth (colossally implausible, of course, but this is a game). As I said, you wouldn't really know what the heck it was, and would probably come up with a religious explanation for it.

Kan' Sharuminar
Sep 06, 2008, 12:46 PM
They're just a more powerful version of creatures that are dotted around the map on their own. You can stay clear of them if you like, especially since it requires a bit of muscle to take one down.

Accidentally led one to a neighbouring tribe as I was attempting to forge an alliance with them. Bit of a faux pas, but we all laughed about it in the end.

Well haven't played it to much, but when i saw one of my brothers creatures that he made with the spore creature creator it was huge, about twice the size of the trees and had about 6000 hitpoints and killed my allies in about 2 seconds, had to run like crazy to survive.

That's called an epic creature. The process of determining a epic creature is random, and they appear in civ phase sometimes. You can also make creatures epic in the space phase

In the creature phase I've had nearby alien abductions and meteor showers. The moon is huge and freaky, at least at my world. At first I wasn't sure what it was...a huge rock in the sky. I saw it during the meteor showers and thought it was a giant meteor, but it's just the moon.

I had epic creatures during the tribal and city phases. Neither bothered me, but apparently the tribal phase creature mixed it up with a competing tribe because they lost all their population without my help, and later I found the creature with half a health bar. I finished it off after I killed off the other tribes. My epic creature was roaring and stomping my tribesmen to death one by one...one stomp was all it took, but I had 12 guys chucking spears at him and had I think two left when he fell. I was breeding babies to take the place of the fallen, and they made quite a few trips carrying back meat from the epic creature. I also did some mass fishing and mass wild creature attacks trying to see if I could wipe everything out, but I got bored and moved on.

I didn't notice the epic creature in city phase until I had taken over all the cities and was taking over the spice mines. I sent everything I had at it, and it died. I had too many vehicles to keep track of whether or not I lost some.

I was playing music for the other tribes and the epic creature would just stand there and listen, and then he would walk away.

In space phase I took a sentient creature and placed on a planet really close to the star. He just ran around screamed then lit on fire.

Im more shocked that you're immersed so deeply in a something that shows a teeming group of creatures as only having a total of 12 on the planet.

I swam out into the water in creature phase after trying to follow my groups migration path and got swallowed up by a sea monster. That was pretty awesome. I also had an epic take out my whole squad of airplanes in civ phase. Dude was just breathing fire on them once and they would be destroyed, it took three waves to get him, and then finally it was my boats that took him out. I love boats.

Epic monster? Oh yeah, I was flying my heavily damaged SPACESHIP on my homeworld in the space age, I had just defended my homeworld (yet again...) against an alien invasion, I was flying low to pick up some life to terraform another planet when I crossed and epic creature that has been hanging around my world since the creature stage... And the creature SMASHED MY SPACESHIP TO PIECES. At least I think so. There WERE enemies around still... But I'm pretty sure it attacked me. Try it.

Is there a consequence to dying in the different stages?

Epic monsters are pretty sweet. So far I'm just avoiding him.

As for the UFO abuction thing, it's kind of neat. I just missed being abducted myself, I was in the middle of a battle during the creature phase and one of the creatures I was fighting got lifted up. I was too busy to check out the UFO, but I thought to myself 'better watch out'

also my whole pack got devoured by a sea monster! I was in the process of killing off a particular creature and had only one of them left, the creature ran off into a lake and kept swimming out into deep water...before I knew it....munch! my whole pack got ate

I saw a member of my tribe get dropped by a UFO. Halfway through beaming it up it must have changed its mind and just stopped.

I also had a friendly UFO help me out in the civ stage. There was a city I was finding particularly hard to take over and it came and dropped a bomb on them. I have no idea why.

Here's a fun thing that happened to me. When you play the cell stage as a vegitarian, you get a song ability that improves your relations with other creatures. I used this on one of those 'rogue' carnivores( some big carnivorous bulwinkle moose type guy) in late creature stage and made him my ally. Doing that threw me into the Tribal stage, and when I got there I had one as a pet! The area behind the main tribal hut seems to be a pet area. It appears though that my species grew in size from one stage to the other, as in tribal stage he was only about half the height of my tribal members. That was a fun discovery.

Yeah, and they lay eggs and protect your village too, I think. You can carry three of these guys from the creature stage. If you don't have any, you can get them from the wild in Tribe stage.
