View Full Version : Discussion for JNES - Fantasy
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 03:57 AM HEy al. I just got done reading the FANNES by Matt, and I got to tell ya, that's is a genious idea. So, I have put together some different looking mpas for this new nes, using SO MANY compy/pasting from a program called RPGMaker2000. Anyways, I will post later on the rule and stuff of the game, it is 3:00 am right now, and I'm too tired. This is just discussion, so I can get feed back before I make the game (which will probably be running at the same time as JNES2).
There are three different maps-
1) is Geographical map with names of area so they can be referred to as "west Dunmer Forest" and then in paranthese (province yadayada) so it can make it seem more of a story. People who conqueor territories in which they want a name added, like a certain part of mountains, I will be glad to put it on the map. Only when the map has something new on it will I update it with the regular map.
2.) the units map. This show all the provinces (all 133 of them!!!) without the numbers so that I can put castles/towns/barracks/armies without having to dodge the numbers. This is what will be updated every map update.
3.) The number map. This has all the number and letters of the territories/oceans. This will be on the first page and should be refered to when sending orders or specifing a place.
Here are the maps
p.s. Nem: How do I post mulitple maps in the same post?
Here is the map (#1), with story-like names.
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 03:59 AM The map with numbers:
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 04:00 AM .
.:KNAS:. Aug 06, 2002, 05:06 AM Seems like it could be interesting, dibs for the orcs... :D
WarlordMatt Aug 06, 2002, 07:05 AM Yes Jason, it was a very good idea of mine, and you could expect me to join. :)
.:KNAS:. Aug 06, 2002, 12:38 PM I notice you have different terrain, ie. forests, mountains and plains, do they do certain things to the owner of that province, or is it just for show? It would be a nice idea if like montaineus provinces had higher defense, but it would be more expensive to build things there aswell....
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 12:40 PM Ok, there will be 10 civs, a few are here:
Elves
Dark Elves
Goblins
Dwarves
Humans
Orcs
Mages
Anyone can think of anymore?
In this NES, each civ will have one special unit with special stats and costs more. Then there is the universal army and universal fleet.
Special units will cost resources, too. Some wood, grain and iron. If you have at least some recourses in a province, you have unlimited of it. It will be mandatory to trade in order to build up a great army.
My fighting system is a off-beat of Nem's, except I use a d20, and the central figure is 10.
Also, here are some structures: Castle is in 3, barracks in 10, dock in 9, town in 8.

I guess that answers my question, huh?:)
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 12:44 PM mountains will add a+1 defense, forest +1 attack, and the various special units will be better in there home terrain. The Level plains add a +1 to attack as well. So, basically, attackoing is normal in PLains and forest, but just -1 moutains.
This is just an outline, and I need suggestions on this system. Can anyone comment?
.:KNAS:. Aug 06, 2002, 12:48 PM Well, what about a +1 attack bonus on plains, -1 attack in mountains and +-0 in forests?
Or +-0 on plains, -1 in forests -2 in mountains?
RoddyVR Aug 06, 2002, 02:20 PM that game will be SICK to mod. you sure you up to it. 133 territories, more then standard units, terrain.
i think you will have to make the turns more then a day (2 maybe) to both give people time to decide their turn (everyone would have ~13 territories, thats twice the average in UKNES3 and JNES) and more unit types to decide which to build. and then theres the actual turn, referencing from map to map, and doing 20d dice rolls (hope you have a comp to do it! if not i can write a program to roll dice for you.)
sugestions for races...
Demons (WarlordMatt's game had it, i liked the idea)
Holy empire (angels and so forth. special unit = Cupid )
Centaurs
Pokemon  /jk
Barbarians (mountain people or something)
LizardMen
RoddyVR Aug 06, 2002, 02:25 PM forest province above 44 (left side middle) is unnumbered, that makes 134 territories.
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 02:55 PM yup, I probably need to tone it downa bit, maybe I wil kepp it to 100 provinces. I will post a new map soon.
RoddyVR Aug 06, 2002, 03:06 PM Giants
Pixies (fairies)
hey i just came up with a GREAT race:
PLANTS (imagine it, inteligent plants that take over whole provinces) :D
if you put them in, i wanna play as them !
and if you post a new map (or 3), i would delete the other ones (or 2 of em) becuase this page already takes for ever to load with those 3.
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 04:25 PM Ok, this one has 103 provinces, so it's 10 provinces per player, with 3 extra.
The races are:
Demons
Elves
Dark Elves
Goblins
Dwarves
Humans
Orcs
Mages
Holy Empire (priests)
Centaurs
Roddy: If you want a "plant nation", you could say that one of the civs get overran by them. lol.
No sign-ups should begin until I specify special units for each race and the starting points.

These are just suggestions, anyone want to recommend anything?
Also, starting positions are marked with a castle, and the number next to the race above correspond with the starting positions.
Territoies gain will be distinguished by a star in the color that the player is (not yet specified). Update will be hard ot do ,as said by Roddy, but I will try a one-day turn base to see how it is.
This will begin when I feel I get enough feedback.
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 05:15 PM Sign ups should begin now, and as soon as I have at least 5 people playing, I will start the game on another thread.
uknemesis Aug 06, 2002, 07:45 PM Why not Minotaur(half man, half bull) instead of Goat Man lol?
And put me down for the Demons lol, even though I have no idea what this is going to be about or like lol.
Nemesis
Demetrias Aug 06, 2002, 08:16 PM Goat men are called Fauns or Satyr. They are the male version of Nymphs and the orginal Satyr is Pan a greek demi god of forest.
Demetrias Aug 06, 2002, 08:17 PM Oh if this game is open for us to grab people i want the centaurs. I would just love to go around with and army of Satyr. There wont be in virgins in this world. LOL.
RoddyVR Aug 06, 2002, 08:18 PM put me down for humans, i like the horseman ( i wont change to them to plant, we need humans :)
Jason The King Aug 06, 2002, 09:26 PM Demetrias is right about the Satyrs, I must have blanked out! Great, that's 3 people. Lol, I knew if Nem would join he would pick the Demons, he loves the islands! Anyways, need two more then I will create the game (I want to know that at least 5 peopel would join before I make it).
uknemesis Aug 07, 2002, 02:31 AM Jason: I have no idea what the units are(can't remember seeing a list) or even if there are other units, but I'm just banking on those Dragon Riders lol. Striking across the sea while my fleets guard my island is too tempting lol.
And yes, islands are great cause they reduce the need for both land and sea defence. With an island you only need sea defence usually, which is part of my "shortest border is best" thing lol.
Anyway, I'll have to read it a lot more before the NES actually begins.
Nemesis
Toasty Aug 07, 2002, 03:46 AM I'll take the Elves :).
And Jason, why call them Dark Elves? Night Elves has a much nicer ring to it ;).
trader/warrior Aug 07, 2002, 04:56 AM i`ll take the dwarves
Jason The King Aug 07, 2002, 10:45 AM Great, I will start the thread right away!
IceEye Aug 07, 2002, 10:56 AM Give me the Holy Empire!!! Hehe +2 attack against non-humans sounds good alright. Perhaps you should make rules for diplomacy. i.e orcs cannot ally with elves and so on.
Jason The King Aug 07, 2002, 11:32 AM Ok, thread made. I was tired, so I didn't make too much of a history! I will make more later.
.:KNAS:. Aug 07, 2002, 12:18 PM HA! Noone took the Orcs! And now they are all mine..... Bwoahahaha... :satan:
