Lord Shadow

Yesterday, Gamespot posted another preview, this time dealing with the handling of multiplayer. The most important revelation appears to be that a game can have up to 8 players, allowing pairs to control a single European power cooperatively. Read all about it here (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidmeierscivilizationivcolonization/news.html?sid=6197671&om_act=convert&om_clk=gsupdates&tag=updates;title;1)!
Three gameplay movies (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/sidmeierscivilizationivcolonization/video.html?sid=6197654&mode=gameplay&om_act=convert&om_clk=gsupdates&tag=updates;title;2) were posted as well, but I haven't watched them yet.
It's late over here and I need some sleep. :p

i could never share control of a single colony. no way can i afford to have my jugdement overruled in a multiplayer game.
Hey even in axis and allies board game things go alot more smootly if i play all the factions on either side. allies or axis.
I just play overall better when i am in control of the side i choose.
I see my playstyle as very controversial and bad for teamplaying the same colony.

I like the gameplay movies because I think they probably reveal the most about the game. I wish that there were a lot more of those...

Hmm.. looks and feels much like Civ4 which I have sank countless hours staring, listening and playing.
I really hope it gave a fresh-new experience.

Not sure if i am right here.... It looks to me, in new Col you cant "stop" building something special any longer if you are running out of tools. You cant just sit back and wait until an sufficiently large number of tools is carried into town by wagon train; now you have to continue with something different instead. Buying the missing tools seems to be impossible too now. (~0:10 in gameplay movie 2)

That would be a great improvement. The "instant-buy" option for tools was one of the (few) bad things in the original game.

How so? Did I miss an exploit or two? You paid a premium over the price in Europe (+5 each if I recall correctly), but it saved the bother of having to transport them from the motherland or from some other colony. I used it with some frequency and would hate to lose it.

I find/found it quite unrealistic to have the buying option in a colony in the middle of nowhere, with no connecting roads and a lot of (un)friendly indians nearby. I always get the full tools package with instant delivery (no need for any ship to cross the ocean?), the +5 price is no real penalty.
Sounds something like '16th century Amazon express' ...
I used this "feature" (of course) because it saved a lot of bothering (like you said) but it is just completely unrealistic if you consider the historic situation.

I always thought of it as metal items scrounged from the countryside (e.g. old arrow tips, junk metal, shipwrecks) or smuggling from who-knows-where. Its lack of realism didn't bother me, but then I usually didn't try to buy 200 tools this way.
