View Full Version : Random Rantii VIII: When will Latin DIE?
Ekolite Sep 21, 2008, 02:52 PM Wooooo new thread!
Rant: Too much college work to do this evening.
Previous thread. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=288888)
Bigfoot3814 Sep 21, 2008, 02:53 PM Dude, you forgot the angry face icon AND you didn't link to the previous thread. And you made the title something that only pertains to you.
There's a rant for you.
Narz Sep 21, 2008, 02:54 PM BigFoot beat me to post #2.
Virote_Considon Sep 21, 2008, 02:59 PM I left my comp for 10 mins, and I come back, and someone's already started the next Random Rants thread!!!
;)
DNK Sep 21, 2008, 02:59 PM Latin is easy. When will you die, because it's gonna be a long time before people stop using Latin.
Ansar Sep 21, 2008, 03:05 PM When will the homework end? :run:
(Obviously, the answer is "when you finish it" but this is really annoying and I'll have none of that logic.)
salty mud Sep 21, 2008, 03:16 PM This has been the worst weekend ever.
Let's start on Friday. I enjoy Fridays, because we do sport at school and me and my friends enjoy it. I say bye to my friends for the weekend and expect to have a relaxing weekend of doing what I would like to do. So, I arrive home at the usual time of 3.45PM and am greeted by the mother. We exchange greetings, as is the tradition, and then she informs me that my 10 and 8-year-old and 7-month-old cousins will be staying at my house on Saturday night. Great. Not that I don't like them or anything, but it is a total nightmare when they come round. I continue with the day, with the horror of my cousins set into my memory.
Saturday rolls by, and I awake to be reminded that the cousins are coming. After muttering an expletive or two under my breath, I get dressed and await their arrival. Around noon, they arrive. The noise was simply catastrophic and embarrasing. The amount of noise generated by these 3 pre-pubescent children was simply a calamity. They take over my area, operate my PC with strict instructions not to and decide to deny my right to play my Xbox 360. Ok, they are my cousins, I don't see them that often. I can let them get away with some things I suppose. Saturday night, and the noise restarts. The two eldest are fighting and the baby is screaming. You might think the 10-year-old is a bully to the younger, but it is the opposite way round. The 8-year-old boy is a frightening sight to behold when enraged. Things calm down, we go to bed and more trouble starts. They start fighting again.
Sunday comes and I wake up feeling like I have the plague. My head is BANGING and my back, legs and arms are aching. Once again, the Xbox/computer have been commandered. I go down for something to eat, followed by the 8-year-old. I simply cannot get a moments peace away from these b******s. The clock says 8.45. Only another 75 minutes of this torture to go. About three more fights occur and they go home. Finally. I am victorious. Far from it.
The uncle phones and expresses a wish to visit the house. Fine I say, I enjoy seeing my uncle. Foolish me for forgetting that of course with the uncle comes a copius amount of alcohol. Now I start to get pissed off. I simply cannot stand watching people get drunk. I say my hello's and retire to my room. Then, more evil happens. The grandmother and auntie come round, and these drink even more alcohol than the uncle. I am now in an apoplectic state. Although the uncle has left and gone home, the others remain and WILL NOT BUDGE. The mother came to me and said she wanted rid of them, but to no avail. I am now sat in my room typing this, grandmother and aunt thinking I am some sort of social for not greeting them properly and uncle furious with me because I ignored him when he wanted me to join in. What a sham of a weekend.
And I have chemistry homework to do and have lost it. Great.
I feel ill. Someone get me the whaaaaam-bulance.
Love Sep 21, 2008, 03:20 PM I rant that school starts tomorrow.

Yes it did, and I made a plea specifically asking whoever made the new thread to remember to include it. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=7265961&postcount=993) Srsly ppl. I'll get over it, I guess.
Salty if it makes you feel any better, you crafted that first rant so wonderfully reading it made my SOOOOUUULL GLLLOOOOWWW. :)

I can ALWAYS rely on the 'Foot to make my virtual life better. Go you. :)
And they are still here by the way. I'm just going to go to bed and completely ignore them. Childish... but it has to be done.
LucyDuke Sep 21, 2008, 03:55 PM What an awful thread title.
Sorry. It's just really awful.

Hardly. Drunk relatives are great the morning after.
GoodSarmatian Sep 21, 2008, 04:01 PM It's eleven in the evening and I still don't know whether I'll have to work tomorrow 6 am.
My "boss" hasn't phoned me and doesn't answer his phone...ah, . .. .. .. . it.
I'll just sleep in and he can go . .. .. .. . himself.
LightFang Sep 21, 2008, 04:03 PM It's a bad thread title.
Also, my allergies are killing me. Ugh, this cough is annoying as hell. And my throat hurts.
Ekolite Sep 21, 2008, 04:08 PM Hey if people are that offended by it then someone can make a new one. It's a rants thread, the title is an obscure rant, I think its fine but then it is my rant and so might not mean anything to other people.
Bigfoot3814 Sep 21, 2008, 04:09 PM With any luck, we'll go through this thread as fast as we did the last one, so I say don't bother.
salty mud Sep 21, 2008, 04:11 PM The way things are going, it will be even faster. Hopefully. As I said before, I love these threads.

Bigfoot3814 Sep 21, 2008, 04:48 PM For College Comp, I'm supposed to write about an event that moved me from a more childish to a more adult perspective, and I can't think of even one. That makes me feel sad inside.
Metal Alloy Man Sep 21, 2008, 04:59 PM Ah, my eye's twitching again though not nearly as bad.
Globex Sep 21, 2008, 05:00 PM I don't really have a strong opinion on gun control but why is it that gun rights advocates always argue that we need guns to protect our freedom? Don't they realize the immense stupidity in their statement? Do they honestly believe that an untrained band of gun-wielding civilians can stand up to an organized and better equipped military? I would like to see how a bunch of guys with shotguns will fare when they're face to face with an Apache helicopter.
D'Artagnan59 Sep 21, 2008, 05:01 PM I friggin' hate it when people just extend a letter or two while typing normally.
I'll give you an example of what I'm talking about:
"*name edited* is watching the game on a tv....and not in really person, so pissseddddd, but still in BOSTON(: texxxxttt."
It makes you sound incredibly stupid or constipated.
Oh yeah, no remarks on my screenname. My mom made it without telling me.
silver 2039 Sep 21, 2008, 05:09 PM I have an expos essay and I can't think of what to write. So I'll put the question out here:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of mainstream learning? (Using Harry Potter Why Heather can Write and Reading Lolita in Tehran as examples)
Yeh WTF. I can streach it and write some BS as usual but I thought uni would be different. I was hoping for less BS than IB. But I guess I better get used to it since it seems that uni is just as much about BSing than IB if not more. Joy. I wish I could drop out and just get a job, but it won't be a good job which sux. So I have to put up with 4 years of this, and then a few more years for masters. What bollocks. Bloody bollocks I say.

Well there's one disadvantage of mainstream learning right there.
silver 2039 Sep 21, 2008, 05:19 PM Well there's one disadvantage of mainstream learning right there.
Oh damn right. Now I just need work Harry Potter and Lolita into the example....hmmm....Voldemort is pedophile school shooter?
Gooblah Sep 21, 2008, 05:56 PM Harry Potter: mainstream (in hogwarts, I guess) failed to adequately prepare students for success in life and is subject to government control, allowing politics to enter teaching.

Get a science degree.
I haven't done a single humanities course at university, and the only non-science courses I've done are political science and economics.

WICKLC1 Sep 21, 2008, 08:38 PM Summer is officially over!!!:(:sad::snowcool:
Firstlady Sep 21, 2008, 08:39 PM You know, Lucy, I really thought you'd be the one to make the new thread and bring back your "SEE! This is why we can't have nice things!" title. I liked that one, too and I tried to make mine somewhat similar when I created VII.
I still think this one is kind of funny though because he's the one who is always flipping out over people adding i's to make things plural, and you have to admit it's at least mildly amusing.
Edit/Rant:
I am sick of being sick.
I'm sick of stomach problems.
I'm sick of barely doing anything and being in pain for days.
I'm sick of all the time that has been wasted because of these problems.
LucyDuke Sep 21, 2008, 09:29 PM I think it'd be kind of cheap to repeat a subtitle. I've got a new one in mind next time I can catch the new thread, though, that I think is pretty funny, anyway. :)
Rant: ONE ORANGE M&M.
Bigfoot3814 Sep 21, 2008, 09:43 PM I have a big stomachache, but I took some pepto bismal and I think it'll go away, but I dunno. :yuck:

CCRunner Sep 21, 2008, 11:37 PM So I was at my out of state meet in california yesterday. We got back to the hotel at like midnight and we were going to have a crazy dance party. We had strobe lights and glowsticks and party invitations and everything all ready. It was seriously legit. Unfortunately, some idiots on my team thought it would be a good idea to talk about this party next to my coach.
I mean really? Talking about staying up dancing until four in the morning next to coach? Christ the frosh aren't that stupid. So when we got to the hotel we got a giant lecture about how we were representing our school and that sort of crap. And then he said that if he caught anyone out of their hotel rooms we would wake up at five to leave and skip the beach.
So being the responsible person I am, my room and I decide to skip the dance party to go to the beach. Aforementioned idiots however decide the opposite. So now I didn't get to do the dance party and I didn't get to do the beach
Plus I didn't race very well.

I go for a month without doing laundry. I wear the same clothes, boxers included at least 2-3 days in a row. Washing and drying cost $1.25 a piece. Way too much for me. Axe spray FTW!

silver 2039 Sep 22, 2008, 01:00 AM are you serious?
Yes.
i do my laundry AT LEAST once a week
If I did that it would come to $10 a month. Thats a lot of money for someone with precisely 0 income. I have a few hundred to last me for the year, actually make that 4 years, with no perceivable income coming in. So yeh, sacrifices must be made. My goddamn life story.
Do you shower between days?
Every morning.
azzaman333 Sep 22, 2008, 01:03 AM Why bother showering if you're going to re-wear clothes?
silver 2039 Sep 22, 2008, 01:04 AM Why bother showering if you're going to re-wear clothes?
I feel filthy otherwise. Yeh the irony. And really how dirty do my clothes get during the day? I mean its fairly cool so I don't sweat, so I don't see the problem. I'm wondering if I can empty the trash can and use it as a makeshift bucket to wash my clothes...hm...
DNK Sep 22, 2008, 02:02 AM How can you not get any money in college? Even 10 hours a week would give you a budget for laundry and partying and some extras here and there.
And then there's summer vacation jobs.
DNK Sep 22, 2008, 02:04 AM 2x post because my internet is too slow to edit:
Sink + detergent + scrubbing
There are special products for that if you want to go all 19th century on it.
And you think you don't smell, but I almost guarantee that you do. And if by some miracle you don't, you will by mid-college. People stink more as they age, it's true. You don't learn it from older people for obvious reasons.
Taras Bulba Sep 22, 2008, 04:58 AM I really hate my Chem teacher.... she's retarded, and doesn't teach anything, and then just gives us HUGE assignments to do

The guy on the phone was real apologetic and also claimed it was by far the lowest margin he'd ever seen in his 16 years he's worked there, but the result is still the same: Fail, try again.
So, to keep in spirit I've made the smallest adjustment I've ever made to software (changed 114000 to 114001 in a table) and sent it again.

"Interesting" seems like it's always a synonym for "I want to add an adjective to this word but there's nothing special about it to deserve an adjective," which is actually pretty ironic if you think about it.

I've noticed that too. but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Anger builds up stress, and stress can lead to an earlier death and other bad things. If you rant more, then you can get that bad stress out. Raving isn't the same effect.
using that logic, you should rant more

How was your Visiting Teaching first experience??? I can't wait to hear about it....I know you were great. You look like someone that would be great at everything!!
-Sister Kelly
Gah, I feel absolutely horrible now. My visiting teaching companion called me Friday (we do teaching in pairs) and asked if I would be available to make two visiting teaching appointments Sunday after church, and I said it would be fine. Unfortunately, I put off all of my homework and studying for my A&P exam until Saturday night and stayed up all night doing that like the horrible procrastinator I can be. After church Sunday I slept until 7:30PM, missing both appointments. And this is what the lady in charge of the visiting teaching/relief society sent to me today. Way to be disappointing, Firstlady!

Eran of Arcadia Sep 23, 2008, 07:21 AM Dear lady on the bus: it is not necessary to spend the entire trip talking to no one in particular about nothing in particular, certainly not at that volume. It is not your fault your voice is so annoying, but you could choose not to use it so much. Like, try talking quietly, or not talking at all. But spending 20 minutes discussing the weather or the jewelry that the bus driver is wearing isn't something that you need to do loudly enough for the people on the back of the bus to hear.

Catharsis Sep 23, 2008, 10:17 AM I actually enjoy Spore quite a lot, and still hold that it can be enjoyed if you frame it correctly - as more of a sandbox than a strategy game.
However, having watched the GDC Demo from a couple of years ago on YouTube recently, I must admit that, even if it wasn't made into Complexity Wars like Civ or Europa Whateveritis, it could have been a lot better than it is, even for casual gamers like me. :(

Yeah, I meet the minimum requirement for glasses, so I have to wear them. Technically, though, I need them since I can't see the board very well from the back of the class. I prefer glasses to contacts though since it's not something literally on my body. The main problem that's bothering me is that I need visual aid.
But thanks Gogf. :)

Bigfoot3814 Sep 23, 2008, 11:27 PM The DJ says that Ray Charles will be coming up after the commercial so I keep the radio on and then it's flippin' TOM JONES singing a song BY Ray Charles. Big difference, bub.
Cheezy the Wiz Sep 23, 2008, 11:28 PM There's a poster in the calculus classroom that says "Math ROCKS!" and has a girl playing guitar on it. I don't understand why, but I want to have my picture taken next to that thing with the horns out.
What's stoppin ya?
Bigfoot3814 Sep 23, 2008, 11:32 PM What's stoppin ya?
I'm not exactly sure. If I had a bunch of friends in the class that I could goof around with, I probably would. Nobody in the class seems to think it's as funny as I do, so it would be really weird if I just started taking pictures of myself in the corner of the classroom. So maybe after midterms or finals or something when everybody's around.
hossam Sep 24, 2008, 01:45 AM i need more people to help me out with my empire:(
Eran of Arcadia Sep 24, 2008, 11:25 AM The brilliant minds who run wordpress apparently (please, please correct me if I am wrong) don't allow links to be put in any order besides alphabetical. Which would make managing them more trouble than it is worth, so I am stuck with a blogspot blog I can't actually edit because at least the way it is now sort of works.
Firstlady Sep 24, 2008, 11:48 AM Gah!
All I want is my money, my checkbook, and credit for my stinkin’ AICE European history class. Is that SO much to ask?
I ordered my checkbook almost a month ago. They said it’d be here in fourteen days when I ordered it, so today I went to the bank to ask why I don’t have it, and the lady told me she doesn’t deal with that sort of stuff, and that I had to wait for some other lady to finish with her customers and that it wouldn’t be too long. So I sat down and waited. Five minutes went by. Ten minutes went by. Twenty minutes went by. I got sick of waiting (and the two ladies just sitting there talking casually only ticked me off more) and needed to eat lunch before my next class, so I just left knowing that I get to go back again tomorrow! Yay!
My financial aid advisor told me that I’d get reimbursed for the books I bought before my scholarship kicked in, and I confirmed this multiple times throughout the month and even before I got the books. I said I wasn’t going to buy my books unless I was sure I’d get reimbursed and if I failed a test because I couldn’t get my books, then I wouldn’t be very happy and she said it wouldn’t be a problem (it wasn’t quite that easy, but whatever). She said at the end of September I’d get my check in the mail for a little over $700, so yesterday I get a check in the mail and it only has $180 on it and I’m pretty darn sure I paid $510 for my books and I’ve even got my awesome receipt to prove that so now I have to go down to student services yet again and ask why I only got $180.
And last but not least, good old AICE. I hate being the ‘pioneer’ for AICE up here. They don’t know what to do with me. They don’t want to give me credit for General Paper and European History. They want to combine those two, which doesn’t make any kind of sense at all. They want to combine it as a humanities credit, and I don’t really want to accept that. I should get three history credits and three humanities credits. It’s been about 2 months now and they’ve yet to get anything finished with it. They said it would all be sorted out about a month ago, so I guess I’ll have to make another stop while I’m down in student services later.
I’ve been patient about all of this long enough. I want my checkbook. I want credit for my classes. I want my money back.

Kozmos Sep 24, 2008, 12:38 PM My new schedule is totally messed up, I've got hours up and down, before noon and all the way into the evening which means I'm practically at school the whole day. Not only that since I am the president and in charge of group rotation I have to see the shift manager to see weather the group rotation has changed.

Well it's too late now. When I woke up this morning, I reached for my glasses and I accidentally popped the CD player thing, which opened and upended the entire thing, spider and all. He escaped. I haven't seen him since. I hope he doesn't seek revenge.

Don'tcha just love the university system? They stifle with frustrating bureaucracy and have no issues trying to stiff/shortchange a student wherever possible. :deal:

It is a bit silly but still worthy of discussion, I think.
JustinianVII Sep 25, 2008, 11:12 PM Nothing quite as fun as having to write an important paper (with another on the backburner that needs to be started) and coming up against a brick wall on how to continue.
Cheezy the Wiz Sep 25, 2008, 11:22 PM Even though I triple-checked the ingredients before I started the bread maker, I still somehow missed the baking soda, so my banana nut bread is super-condensed. :(

It has replaced one of my toes and a very large amount of the space between it and another, so I also get the lovely feeling of something between my toes all day in addition to the usual :(

Do many of them miles involve walking uphill? When I screwed my ankle over, I had to walk about a mile downhill, followed by about a mile uphill. Needless to say, it wasn't very fun ;)
Firstlady Sep 26, 2008, 12:33 PM I hate when the little pad things in my bathing suit get all messed up when I wash it. It takes forever to straighten them out. Gah.

D'Artagnan59 Sep 26, 2008, 03:44 PM WHY THE HELL DO WE HAVE TO TAKE WRITTEN TESTS IN GYM?
Seriously. Last time I heard, PE was about playing sports, learning the rules, and being fit. PE is not sitting down and taking a test.
Oh yeah. You guys and gals are probably wondering, "It's probably about health stuff, like drugs, alcohol, and tobacco."
Nope. It's about the sports we play. I have never seen something so colossally stupid. I KNOW THAT YOU SERVE DIAGONALLY IN TENNIS, I ALREADY DEMONSTRATED THAT SKILL WHILE PLAYING! WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT?
I swear that my school is the only school in the entire United States, possibly even the world that does this. I will wager 1 buck that this fact is true.
Anyone else on CFC have to take written tests about this bullcrap in Gym?
