View Full Version : Units turning invisble, HELP!
RebelCub Sep 24, 2008, 05:50 PM Hey fellas,
Whenever I open up a saved game most all of the units are mostly invisible. This also occurs whenever I start a game out with a Caravel i.e. the Caravel is mostly invisible.
Here are some screenshots. In this first one you can see that the Merchantman simply isn't there:

In this one you can see where an Indian is SUPPOSED to be because his bow is still visible:

I've tried reinstalling the game, but still get the same result. I know that my graphics card is pretty decent because I play games like ROME without problem. Anyone know what the heck is up??
snoopy369 Sep 24, 2008, 05:51 PM What graphics card do you have - and how old is it? That could be a graphics card dying issue, or a graphics card not perfectly supporting the engine. You might have to update its drivers (stock answer...)
It's also possible the image files are corrupted, but if you've reinstalled that would imply the CD itself is corrupted ...

Not sure if this is the info you need:

snoopy369 Sep 24, 2008, 06:08 PM Ewwww, Intel graphics. That could be the problem itself... they don't officially support hardware pixel shaders, IIRC. I do think they work in theory, but it wouldn't shock me to find out that's the problem.
Try to get updated drivers for them, but other than that all I can say is, don't get integrated graphics for a gaming computer...
Dale Sep 24, 2008, 06:13 PM Go into graphics options and change to low res graphics, 0 anti-alias, and low settings. That might help. :)

Ya, I know it isn't good for gaming. It is actually my girl's computer. I'm only playing Colonization on it because it's screen is bigger than my laptop. I'll go install it on my computer and that should tell us whether it is a game glitch or just a bad graphics card.

That fixed it. THANKS! So crappy graphics card is the culprit.

bad graphics 'card' and bad drivers. 'Card' as it is really integrated in chipset, it doesn't exist.
trytogrowupkid Oct 01, 2008, 01:47 PM this same thing happened to me about 3 days into playing it, and it only happened to my ship, except I dont have a crappy video card. My computer is custom built and fairly new. Geforce 8600 GTS with dual core 2.8ghz. I tried changing all the graphics settings and whatnot, didnt work. I should have updated my drivers to see if that was the problem, but i reinstalled the game and that worked. Then I updated the drivers and the problem hasnt repeated thankfully. But I reinstalled b/c everytime i got out of the game and got back in, my boat was invisible even at the beginning of the game. Weird.
