Good day (night) folks!
There is a little thing that I just do not understand
how to use the espionage? I mean, you can add "weight" to one leader or more than one, but what does it mean really? And apparently there is no upper limit...I am new on BtS, almost lost a war because of a spy destroying my source of oil...is there a effective defence against that?
Thank you

"Weight" affects the distribution of your EPs among your opponents. Assign each the same weight, be it 1 or 99, and the points will be evenly spread: assign weight 1 (or any other number) to one opponent and 0 to all the others, and all your points go against the one. Or balance the distribution as you wish by shuffling the weighting. There are plenty of threads already on espionage: try a search.
And no, there is absolutely no certain way of preventing sabotage or any other action by enemy spies.

I seem to recall that fortifying spies on a resource make it harder for someone to sabotage it, although I'm not 100% certain on that.

My suggestion would be to grab Gilgamesh, put yourself a setting down on usual, and try to play a game with an espionage economy - there are threads on the forum discussing it. I found this was a great way to get myself used to espionage when I started playing BTS, to discover how useful it can be if you use it to full potential.

hrmpf, my first reply got lost, ok once more:

Guaranteed access to oil:

found a city on the oil tile

Better chances to detect intruding spies and prevent sabotage:

put one of your own spies on the oil tile
run repeated counterespionage missions against the most threatening neighbors
close borders with them
gain a lot of :espionage: points

Dan,
thank you for the avatar...the ironclads were my favourite ship in CivI.:)
And thanks for the advise too.
Later I tried to fortify a spy on the resource and it seems to work.
I really need to improve my espionage management, never got a great spy neither....
Thank you all, it was my first thread!
