Bought the game, installed it, played it for three days.

On day 4, it stopped recognizing the disk in the drive... so I ejected/inserted the disk and hit "play" when the little box came up

Blue screen of death, and machine rebooted

Uninstalled/reinstalled twice, same problem...

So, being stoopid with my money, I went to Best Buy and bought a brand new external DVD drive for 110 bucks...

Great progress...it no longer says I don't have a disk in the drive... it just gives me a quick flash of the blue screen and reboots my computer: every time I try it

Video drivers are up to date, DVD drive brand spankin' new... and the damn thing ran GREAT for three days

WTF???

I tossed it in the bottom drawer, when I really felt like tossing it in the trash

Do you have the same issues with other games? It should run fine because it always has. A fresh install of windows should fix the problem for you, but I can imagine that being a bit over the top.

No, never had this kind of problem, ever.

Tried a system restore, no dice. I don't want to reinstall windows, that would be way more hassle than Sid is worth...
/sigh

Ok, just so we get some closure here (put this in your Butterfly Effect file)

My headphones had gotten unplugged.

So when Sid tried looking for them during the multi-player voice initialization step they weren't there, and...

CRASH!!

One little mystery solved, one little drama over

I had simular problems, but here is the odd part: It would say the disk was not in the drive, then said to go to "Securerom.com" to get more info. What in the world what THAT doing on there?
