When I found a colony with sugar/cotton resurse in it I seldom get any of this resurse, maybe 2 if I don't touch the spot with my pioneer. What do I have to do on that spot? Farm? Did this on the spot with sugar and tobacco started to grow ??? Hapens with silver as well - I got ore out of silver ??? What is this?

You have to assign a colonist to the tile where you want to grow tobacco, or mine silver. If you got ore instead of silver, it means you didn't assign the colonist to the right job (double click on him, and click "silver miner")

TTIf you are playing on the scenario maps I know that some resources are really weirdly placed. Sugar is only supposed to occur on marsh tiles, cotton should only occur on plains while tobacco is only supposed to occur on grassland.

The problem is that if you have a cotton resource on grassland(which produces tobacco, not cotton) it wont actually produce any cotton(since the special resource only gives +2 cotton(note the plus sign) and is meant to be a 'bonus' while "plains" gives 3 cotton which is supposed to be the baseline).

This also happens with silver on hills but in a different way because hills do not produce silver normally, peaks do that although for some reason you can mine silver from hills if the special resource is present but you have to make sure your colonists work as silver miners and not ore miners.

Edit: Also, forests, jungles and light forests decrease the yield of tobacco, cotton and sugar. So make sure you remove them with a pioneer and build a farm to maximize the output of the tile.

Thanks for replies. So it's really a bug if the game itself (random map) puts wrong resurse on wrong tile? Strange.
About miners: I had silver on hill, built a mine, specialized worker to be silver miner, but the game never allowed to select him to be "silver miner" - all I could pick was "ore miner". Silver doesn't even show up in the tile.

Silver can only be mined from mountains. Seems there are a few glaring map bugs. I wonder how many months it'll take for a patch to arrive.

That is the cotton planter, look around for the native village's to find one that trains this profession.

You can mine silver from a tundra hill.

That Cotton bug needs to be fixed. I settled a city next to a Cotton supply last night with every intention of expanding my resource base and was somewhat miffed to find I could not harvest it.

Try cephalo's faireweather mapscript for more resource joy. :)

Hmm, I'm bug hunting today, and I looked into this a little.

Bonuses have certain Terrains and Features that allow you to get their + to a resource. For example, Silver is only valid on Snow and Tundra. If you put Silver on Snow, that snow will now produce 2 Silver. However, if that silver is on Grassland, you won't get anything.

I would think that Terrain and Feature limits would only apply to the Random Map generation, but I don't know for sure if this is a bug or just a non optimal implementation.

I will bring this up in the Unofficial Bug Path Mod's thread and see what Dale thinks about it.
