After capturing a foreign colony, I got a bunch of Jesuit missionaries. However, since they were initially assigned to a foreign country, they cannot create missions in villages.
Is that supposed to work like this?
In that case, the only thing a captured Jesuit is good for is being cleared of his specialty.

Jesuit Missionaries must be assigned as missionaries. It's possible that the Jesuit Missionaries you obtained were in 'colonist' mode (like pioneer, soldier, etc) rather than in 'missionary' mode. They look just the same whether they're a "Jesuit Missionary" colonist or a Jesuit Missionary

I noticed that when I got a Jesuit Missionary off the dock and put him to work in my colony, he wouldn't create a mission at an Indian settlement after I made him a colonist outside the colony. I had to march him all the way back to my colony and change him to a missionary, even though in colonist mode, he looked just like a Jesuit Missionary.

This feature is an unnecessary annoyance.

I propose that Jesuit Missionaries should just be made incapable of being a colonist OUTSIDE of the colony or that they be made capable of both starting a mission or building a new colony regardless of whether they're in colonist or missionary mode after leaving the colony.

Ah, that could be an explanation.
Very annoying.
Thanks.

At least they could drop the garb when working in the field. Must be way too hot anyways...
