Just wanted to repost this...

Basicly the same game but instead of colonizing america you are colonizing a new planet. There could be warp points you need to control like resources. These warp points can port you to some place where you can trade like europe.

Heres anouther thing I have been thinking about. Its great to have all these things to sell but If there were more units that needed the things you farm to make powerful units then when you claim your independence you would still have use for them. This goes for any mod out there.

Either or both of these ideas would add alot of great game play.

I think its a little out of anyones league but if you could setup a scenario where you play a campaighn in europe on civilization4 BTS and when you get to the 1500s you switch over to a colonization game with bonuses and negatives based on your civ4 game. Again, probably not gonna happen but hea. If you like it repost this with your thoughts so maybe some really good proger will notice it.

This I would truly love. AC has got to be one of my all time favorite games. I have always been amazed Sid never followed up with a sequel title.

I've always thought that a game that did for Colonization what Alpha Centauri did for Civ would be awesome. Balooning population on Earth and technical advancements see the human race reaching for the stars. Four competing Earth groups get to the nearest habitable planet only to find that, oops, there are native Civilizations there. Organized and technologically advanced (though not as advanced as their new neighbors), they want to trade for our wonderful goods and learn our technologies, but they fear losing their planet to the earthlings.

Actually thought to make it myself years ago and had quite the library of design documents, but the project just seemed a bit too huge. Rest assured I love the idea of 'Space Colozination' in general.

While I too actually saw Alpha being the next game using the Civ4 engine, I see it with the Civ 4 format not the Colonization format , as research, diplomacy and different victory conditions play a bigger role. I'm more surprised, after seeing the Fall from Heaven scenario , that there has not been a Mod that really did it already... :)

Hah, strange, wrote a mail to firaxis, after playing Col, about how good a game that it is. And hinted that maybe they should look into making AC a Civ4 exp too...

I'd like to see an AC-esque game strongly focus on Diplomacy, in much the way that Col focuses on Economics. It would give each game its own niche, and perhaps allow the Firaxis team to develop some new ideas and systems for diplomacy that could transfer over to Civ5 as well...

I think that this is a brilliant idea. Regardless of which said planet is Mars or Alpha Centari, this is a good Mod idea.

Awesome, I was worried it would never happen, but since you mailed them I'm sure they'll get right on top of it. :P

America, China, Russia, India and Europe (some future EU/ESA group) perhaps?

I don't think Firaxis or Sid Meier has the rights to Alpha Centauri. I think that it is owned by EA. That would explain things

Why it should be?
Alpha Centaury was the first game developed by Firaxis itself.
Unless they sold rights explicitly they must still have it.

It was another situation with Civilization - that game was orginally developed by Microprose. And Microprose itself was then sold to (I forgot - EA?). So even Sid Meyer have no rights on 'Sid Meyer's Civilization'

I have to agree with ya there.. Ac is way more about empire management then city management. There are quite a few things different from Civ4 to Ac, and prob more then one modder wants to change so it isn't too weird it hasn't been made as a mod yet. (Although there has been lots of talk about it)

Alright time for a history leson heh :goodjob:

Microprose was bought out in 1998 by... (Drumroll please) Hasbro.. (Wierd enough heh). Then again in 2001 Infogrames Entertainment SA (IESA) bought out Hasbro, and Microprose didn't make the transition and went poof..

Firaxis came around in 1996 from people leaving MicroProse, and although they may of sold some rights to SMAC :trophy:(Made in 1999 by Firaxis) it seems they still have the original rights to it.
