I've played the game for a week frequently using the Jesuit. For the last couple of days whenever I play, the Jesuit (and only the Jesuit), has disappeared. I cannot buy it and it never appears on the docks. It is the only character that is now missing and it is always missing now.

You could never buy the Jesuit (expert missionary). He only ever appeared on the docks.
