Every time I try to start Civ4 (no expansions, patches up to date), I get this message:

Yes I am :B My old disks are trashed, so this isn't a legit copy I'm using

I've tried all the workarounds I could find & nothing is working, so I'll just buy a new copy. But my Silent Hill 2, which is legitimate, is getting the same errors. Any idea why?
