But I fear that it wouldn't be really helpfull since the current City-Screen supports only the 3x3 squares. Also all buildings in city are limited to 3 or less people each ... Having 20 tiles (5x5 squares) to work would be much more confusing since everything would be smaller ... in general the increase in workable tiles by 2.5 (= 20/8) would increase quantity of harvested ressources by 2.5 and would take 2.5 times the number of workers to process. You would have to adjust all working buildings to allow around 10 workers ... otherwise the massive amount of ressources could not be processed ... You can have 3x3-cities with population of 20-30 ... the bigger city-radius would make it 50-75 ... what a crowd of people ... The complete City-Screen would have to be redesigned to allow micro-management of that many people ... Since Cities do not cost anything, it is easier to just build 3 small specialised cities and link their ressources with wagon-trains .... You might remember that in Col1 the City-radius was changed from 2 to 1 by purpose ... Sid Meier : (http://www.colonization.biz/sid.htm) One thing that stands out in my mind is that two weeks before we shipped it, we made a major change in the gameplay. The original version had the city radius being twice the size that it was in the final game. We found that for gameplay purposes, all the cities tended to get kind of maxed out. And two weeks before we shipped it, we said, "You know, this game would be really more interesting if your cities specialize. So let's cut the city radius, really change the nature of the gameplay." The lesson I learned is that it's never too late to fix the game, to fundamentally change the gameplay, because it can happen, even if you're two weeks away from shipping. Keep making it better; keep fixing it. |
