View Full Version : Interface problem whit online version of BTS
Invero Oct 07, 2008, 12:08 PM Hello everybody,
After installing BTS. 3.17, I have no background on the interface. I don't have the problem with Civ 4 1.61 nor 1.74. I got Civ 4 and BTW online. I have tried with and without Blue marble and with and without BUG Mode and with both.
My configuration right now is Civ4 1.74 with BTS 3.17
On the attached file is the DxDiag.txt as well as 4 screenshots showing the problem.
Hope to here from you guys soon and thanks in advance.

ori Oct 10, 2008, 09:43 AM could you click on about this build and show what that says?
Alexxidd Oct 16, 2008, 05:15 PM hello I have the same problem Invero is experiencing, Ori maybe you 'll be able to help me again?:)
Vanilla is a digital version, and BTS is a CD version, can it be the reason?
Such a long way to be able to play again...
ori Oct 16, 2008, 05:23 PM could you post a screenshot of about this build?
Alexxidd Oct 16, 2008, 05:55 PM yeah sure, Currently I'm removing/ re-installing the whole thing, but i'm sure it will be the same anyway, I'll send a screenshot... but what do you mean by build? (...ok i get it, i didnt'l check all the picture...) because screenshot of the game are the same that the one you can find in the zip file of Invero
Alexxidd Oct 16, 2008, 07:02 PM Ori, here is the Build info:

ori Oct 17, 2008, 09:06 AM ok that would have been too easy ;) the game is correctly patched.
Now for the not so easy parts:
you did install the game giving the installer and patches admin rights, correct?
please open civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name from 0 to 1 - then start the game, open one of the screens that are faulty, close the game. Come back here and post all contents of my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file attachment here :)
Alexxidd Oct 17, 2008, 08:02 PM ok, here are the 0s I have changed.
PitbossSMTPLogin
LoggingEnabled
SynchLog
OverwriteLogs
RandLog
MessageLog
For the admin rights I guess it's good, what do you mean exactly?
thanks
ori Oct 18, 2008, 11:46 AM this is weird the log shows the following version:
[96909.000] VERSION: Build: Fri Jun 29 04:53:56 2007
[96909.000] VERSION: 3.0.0.91 (74697)
which is not an accurately patched version.
on Vista you have to give every program that needs admin rights the express permission to do so by rightclicking on the program file and choosing run as administrator.
do the below making sure that all installers AND patch installers run with admin rights - if you do not have warlords ignore those parts. This is a rather long list of things to do but gets rid of all remnants of your install and produces a fresh install :)
install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en)
then do the following for a clean reinstall:
Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :
Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Civ4
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS)
(note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Civ4, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3))
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3344))
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.17 (download it fresh from here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9800)).
Invero Oct 22, 2008, 10:09 AM Hello Ori,
first of all thanks for your help.
Would it also help to erase all registry entries before resintalling the whole thing?
I am using XP, does it make any difference?
Greetings
Invero
ori Oct 22, 2008, 10:59 AM if you delete the files I posted above: likely not - if you want to make absolutely sure - do so, however make sure that the installshield keys (like CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8 and the other two are gone as well - or registry edits will have no effect) :)
Edit: XP does not need to give special permissions for a program to run as admin (if you use an admin account all programs run as admin) apart from that it does not make a difference :)
Invero Oct 22, 2008, 11:28 AM Hi again. Should I patch Civ4 to 1.74? before installing BtS?
Invero
ori Oct 22, 2008, 11:32 AM patch it to 1.61 - really just follow the steps I posted above :)
BtS installs 1.74 by itself during install, however there have been numerous reports of this failing if the game was not patched to 1.61 before patching to 1.74.
So you can either patch to 1.61 and allow the BtS installer to patch to 1.74 or patch to 1.61, then patch to 1.74 and then start the BtS installer - this does not matter a bit :)
Invero Oct 22, 2008, 11:34 AM well the installation version of civ4 i have is 1.61 already, so you sa no patching?
ori Oct 22, 2008, 12:44 PM right :) just install Warlords (if you have it) patch that to 2.08 and then install BtS :)
Invero Nov 20, 2008, 06:43 AM Hi again Ori.
So, I did installed Civ 4 1.61, then installed BTS 3.17 but the log files shows:
[10644.750] VERSION: Build: Mon May 19 15:20:10 2008
[10644.750] VERSION: 3.1.3.1 (104717)
[10645.000] VERSION: Mod Loaded: none
any ideas??
Thanks again!
Invero
ori Nov 20, 2008, 09:11 AM this is correctly patched - are there any problems?
Invero Nov 21, 2008, 03:43 AM this is correctly patched - are there any problems?
Well yes, I can't still se the background of the interface, as in the pictures shown in the first post.
ori Nov 21, 2008, 04:44 AM please open you civilizationIV.ini (in my games\beyond the sword) and set all items that have log in their name fro 0 to 1 - then start the game - try to see a few of the faulty screens, close the game (after starting a play now game). Then post all contents of my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file here :)
Invero Nov 24, 2008, 06:24 AM Hi Ori, here you have a zip with the logs. I hope you can find something. Thanks!!!
