So, I just got a new laptop and it has Windows Vista Home Premium. But, here is the catch: the OS is the Japanese version. Vanilla Civ4 works fine, but when I load up BtS, I get 12 XML load errors. If I skip all of these by hitting OK, the game loads up. But, all of the BtS specific text is gone, and replaced with the TEXT markers. I took screenshots of the errors, and as near as I can figure out, my computer is having trouble recognizing the foreign languages in the XML. My copy of Civ 4 and BtS are both English. BtS is acquired through Steam, so I am not sure if that is effecting anything. I'd love to get some help on this. :confused:

Also, please note that the Y looking shapes with the two lines through it is the equivilant of a slash.

there have been some ancient threads on similar issues with the original civ4 release and asian language windows. I *believe* there were some fixes for it. Did you search here? I'll see if I can dig something out...

I did do a search, and the other threads ended without a conclussion. However, I did figure it out over the weekend. I just needed to change the display language to English. Very simple. :) Thank you for your help, though.

I have exactly the same problem, but my display language is already in English. Any ideas? It's not like I can't play, but I have lots of missing text. I'm using a Vista MUI, so the game shouldn't really be able to tell the difference from an English OS.

is your non-unicode language setting also english? windows uses two different language settings - for unicode and non-unicode programs.

I tried changing that too and it made all the text disappear instead of just half of it. Which is strange because that's precisely the setting that I would figure would affect it. I might give that another go if I ever work up the effort to spend hours trying to get a game working again.
