View Full Version : Almost winning all victories on the same turn
Oct 19, 2008, 08:07 PM
It was January 1, 1984 I was sitting in my office thinking abut what I was trying to accomplish. Was it possible? I didn't know, but I knew that only great great people accomplish this. The United Nations and World Bank were half way done and the war with Japan raged on. My father had launched the S.S. Blitzkrieg Imp 14 long years ago. My father had passed away just two years ago and I was still getting over it. He had died in a tank that attacked a Japanese rifleman army. I could take the Japanese at any time to win Domination but I was waiting for that time to come...
December 31, 1982 -
The year has been long, I knew it would soon be over. I had only two years before it would all end. My father had :nuke:-ed the Japanese and I knew it was the right thing. :goodjob: It stopped the Japanese race forward in tech and killed millions. The mighty civilization of Rome had never liked the Japanese as they were cursed with the last discovery bug. It had lasted a long time as my father told me and I knew it would soon be over. My ancestors had conquered the French, English and my father had conquered the Mongols. I was going to fulfill my destiny as I was to take out Japan.
11:58 pm -
I was just checking making sure everything would sync so that I would be able do a great thing. The World Bank and The United Nations had one year left. Rome and Syracuse were the attention of the empire. Many of our spies had died destroying buildings and kidnapping great people.
11:59:59 pm -
My whole life flashed before me, from my childhood to now. Everything I did was in my mind. I was looking at the progress of the United Nations on my TV, when all of a sudden it said "loading..." I wondered what it was. When it loaded I saw the image from the video camera that my father had sent with the S.S. Blitzkrieg Imp. I was astonished it was supposed to get there next year at the earliest. My life then ended with a sudden beat.
Other stuff -
Please tell me if you have ever won all victories in the same turn.

Oops, this was supposed to go in the civ rev stories and tales.

Hi Retake. A few weeks ago, before I found this forum, I was playing CIV REV on my DS and thought exactly the same thing! "Can I win all (or more than one) victories in the same turn?". I Done 2 - Ecconomic and Cultural in same turn.
Upon reading your post recently I thought I Would have another go at this! I played the game on King level (a bit easier than Deity) - and was determined NOT to cheat at all (by not going back to previous saved games if it all went pear shapped) - but to play it out properly from Turn 1. I played Americans. Anyway - I made sure I got the Magna Carta ASAP so I could seam ahead culturaly (Greeks were closest Neighbours!). I got into expansionist mode and got a good lead on my fellow civs, but fell behind a bit scientifically to start (I made sure I had Democracy for the MC and Literacy and also Cerimonial Berial and Alaphat bet ASAP first before putting science on a back burner to concentrate on money, building and city defence.) When I was happy that my culture and gold was doing well - I switched to science for a while to catch up and go by the other civs in an attempt to get tanks first. With a good few tank armies uilt before anyone else knew what a tank even was, I steamed through most of the map without much resistance. In fact I took over pretty much the whole world, but kept one capital alive for domination victory last turn.
Anyway - I preceeded to launch a space ship AFTER I knew I could build the World Trade Centre and the UN Building. I tried then to time my building of the WTC and UN the arrival of the Space flight to Alpha Centuri.... and of course killed off the remaining oppositoion as it was arriving.
ALMOST!!! Unforunatly I mis-timed the arrival of the space ship and was only one turn out. So I won 3 victories and was 1 turn out for all 4. (The game actually only accredited me for both the cultural and ficial victories and didn't seem to register the domination for some reason) This gave just over 67,000 points for the game.
How is your attempt going? I'm going to try again on Deity with the Aztecs!

I'm not really playing civ rev anymore. I found it not nearly as good as civ 4. So I'm play that. It's Remake, not Retake (but that's okay).

OK - I tried this again a few days ago with the Chinease on 'King' difficulty setting. I timed it right this time and finnished the game on the same turn with all 4 victories. It still, however, only registered/aknowledged the ecconomical and the cultural victories after the last turn. Was still pleased though.
There.. done it!

This seems like a VERY tough task to win all 4 at once, pretty impressive DrP that you even managed 3!

We should have a contest with the fastest (Mean earliest in game) all four victories on the same turn starting now. Please post if you would like to be in the contest.

Yea alright then. We'd have to play on the same difficulty level - or just post all the details to see who gets the most impressive finish. Mine was on King level and ended about 2060 or so (can't remember now).
The other thing is that at the end of the game it only attributes you with 2 of the victories - so timing and honesty will be key.
When timing the space ship to arrive you have to be careful - it will say "8 years to arrival..." Which means 4 turns in in games time when you are around 2050 in the modern era (each turn is 2 years).
I got Final Fantasy IV for christmas on the DS and have been playing that solid - lol. But will definately get back to CIV soon.

We'll play on King. But you have to be sure on the year.
Jan 10, 2009, 03:34 PM
Yea - well I'll start again. Do want to wait a bit to see if there are any other takers, or just set a time limit? Perhaps 2 weeks? from a set date? If you play more than once you can update your score or something, but qudos for the best first scores anyway. Anyone can join in by posting their scores over teh 2 wek period or something like that. thoughts?

That's cool, so we have a winner every two weeks. Actually how about every month.
Jan 10, 2009, 07:09 PM
OK - Starting from NOW! untill the end of January then. And monthly thereafter. Anyone can post an entry - play on King Level (maybe higher if you want to give it try next month) and state civilisation; year completed (with all 4 victories); and score.

EDIT: Actually I post a thread in the main form with the contest.
