am i st..?

i'm in the middle of my first col-08, and now i'd like some veteran soldiers to defend the little huts. i tried to educate a free colonists to veteran, but that didn't work. so i read somewhere in civilopedia that i only had to put a guy on a horse and give him arms, that should be it! ??

ok, so i suppose i have to make soldiers of some free colonists and then let them practise on whatever enemy i can find, to finally make him a veteran soldier?

only, i am quite friendly w all the indians around, and i don't want to jeopardize that and no europeans in sight in all the world..!

please, give a hint on how this works! are there any other ways to this?

You can edit your unitinfos.xml. Find veteran and change the teacher wieght to 4 "same as statesman" put one in your colony before you start to train a student and you be able to train a veteran soldier.

If you play by the book you shouldn't have posted this in the Modding subforum :mischief:

A Colonist will never be promoted to veteran. (If this is what you mean by "How many successful battles"...)
The only way to get these "by the book" is to buy them in Europe (or from your King - which is kind of "in Europe" as well).
