Hey guys. I recently moved into the Monarch realm after having a pretty solid record in my Prince games. What Im really asking for is just some general tips on how I can improve my game and what I can do to win this specific game im in right now. I honestly didnt have a clear goal from the beginning as to how I was going to win so now I think im pretty screwed. An help would be greatly appreciated. And by the way, Im running a really old version of civ 4 (Im a mac user so i dont have BTS) so im only at 1.61. Thanks for any help for those who can!

attack early and take over a big civ and attack the next one and take workers then tech to either space or nukes and nuke or space win.

why wait for space or nukes? if you have taken over 2 neighbours already by middle ages (which is very possible - early bc axe rush followed by sword + catapults), you already have a massive production advantage over the AI letting you win much earlier - rifles or infantry at the latest.
Personally, I hate nukes and never use the damn things - unfortunately they are fairly tempting to use in the late game when the AI tends to mass most of their military in 1 city

Honestly I feel that Im way too far behind in research to have any advantage on my rivals. In fact, I think best case scneario right now in terms of techs in a war would be my riflemen vs infantry. Even so, I did take over America by 100AD but now Im stuck in 1800 with no clear victory path in sight. While my production is pretty damn good and my research isnt too bad now, the turns i wasted in getting my economy running after the war has set me too far back. I dunno, I really just need some general tips based on the save file and overall monarch tips. Please check out the save file too. I think that will help me out a lot. Thanks again guys.

Switch research to 0. Upgrade swords to grenadiers. Upgrade cats to cannon. Build cannon non-stop until you've elimininated Genghis and Saladin.

Ha well I would absolutely love to destroy both of those really annoying civs, Im not sure what kind of victory that would ensure. I know havng a whole island to yourself is a big research advantage but I am still way the hell behind and I dont think I could catch up.

Yeap. troytheface likes to post weird things like how to attack with Amphibious War Elephants and such. I wouldn't be bothered too much by his posts.

It's too late now, but the big difference for me in my monarch games is the NEED to tech trade aggressively in the post war situation you found yourself in. At Prince, I can build universities and banks to pull myself out of the tech hole, and I can get away with only making fair trades.
At Monarch, if I am in tech trouble, I need to be willing to make some less than fair trades to catch up.
Also, the solution to war is sometimes more war.
