When does the game start (the year), and when does it end?
I want to know that because as soon i by Colonization i could mabye mace a Norwegian Empire, who was on it's greatest extent at 1263.

300 turns. turn 200 is around 1700. The game is kinda based on United States independence timewise.

The standard game starts in1492 AD and finishes 300 years later, if you haven't already won.

No, you're not. You can modify all the calendar settings in, I believe, GlobalDefines.xml. You can also make your own map, units, buildings, etc. Look in the main Civ4 creation and customization forum for the basics of how to do this; they generally apply to Col as well.
