What should we name our team?

For those who haven't played, the name can be an acronym (FREE, BABE, MIA) or just a word (Epsilon, The Council, Doughnut).

Another thing we will want is a seal/logo and a motto.

Does anyone have ideas?

Why put and other info in title? It is confusing. Should be one thread per topic. My initial idea was Legion (We are Legion and we are Many), but it might be a bit lame... It'll fit well if we go Rome, but i don't think that is a good option on the given settings, but that is a discussion for another topic.

I'd prefer not to use an acronym unless it's one with a specific meaning (like M.I.A.), and I'm sure I could spawn a few dozen interesting names if prodded :lol:. But I'll wait and see if anyone has a killer suggestion. ;)

I think all the acronyms from the civ3 MTDG1 had a meaning, and from the second, "FREE" has a meaning specific to the game. I generally don't come up with good names.

I have no idea what FREE stands for, nor SABER, BABE or GONG. That's what I mean, it should be fun for the other teams too, not just an inhouse joke. In comparison I know what MIA stands for. ;)

Team Victor (it can stand for Victory or Victoria(if we chose her as our leader)), but it also means something on it's own.

I think it's a great name, assuming we end up playing Victoria (I should, since it was my suggestion to start with :p). If we don't, we'll need another name. It's not just our decision either, even if we want her as our first choice some other team might pick her too, and we get someone else. Backup suggestions?

Hmm... The Banner is only a quick making, I discussed it with Renata and Oyzar over msn around an hour ago, and it leaves lots of space for improvement...

Alternatively, we could use one of these names:
Team CV (Could be Cultured Vikings, from what I've seen we're only people from scandinavia, england and america. Correct me if this is not true). Further more CV is a spoof over "Curriculum Vitae". A drawback is that it could me misinterpret as "Cultural Victory", and we would be smashed.

Team NP ("No Problem" // "Not Prime" (4 is the only non-prime team number)).

Oh and I would be glad to make a better banner (as well as a small banner, 250x250, for avatars).

What I'm most glad to see is that you're eager with your paint brushes, no matter the actual image. It's always fun to enrich the game with this sort of assorted fluff, and it's great that we have a willing artist among us. :thumbsup:

I haven't had any great ideas myself and you guys have come up with a nice option already. One thing about Victor, though... you do realize that if we choose that we'll have to refer to you as Niklas, god/goddess of Victor-y.
Since your name is so similar to Nike, in Greek mythology.

Niklas being the God of Victory would be nice since he is fully functional...

The letters still look like they might have been put on with paint... Shading, whatever, i dunno what you do to letters to make them nicer, but i don't think these are.

Edited: Letters in line 2 got a different text-type, and were enlarged.
Letters in line 1 were shrunk.
Letters in both lines has a black border and a dark red (881111) shadow.
The Border was made dark red (881111) and thicker.
EDIT: A more zoomed in version of hte previous picture was used for the background.

What about a darker red for the letters, so the color better fits to the painting itself? Like this I find it too bright.

We came up with a suggestion for a name earlier today; Team Profit.
I don't know how serious it is, but we (me, Purpleturtle, Niklas and Oyzar) came up with it after me and Purpleturtle had begun to get silly with the south park joke of
Phase 2: ??? Phase 3: Profit!

I am happy either way myself, if the groans drown out the laughs for Team Profit Team Victor will make me happy anyway. For Team Profit though, we might be able to make a banner with the little underpants gnome guy holding his arms up lol.

It would be a bit silly if we didn't get victoria as our leader...

I agree with oyzar, and I don't see any rush here. Let's wait until we know what leader we get, then we can make our decision.

Well, it looks like we may need a revision of something here (or do we still want Victor- it's an open question?). I was going to think of some interesting names for the Mayans but then we don't even get Pacal! I really don't know anything about Portugal so won't be of too much help with thematically related names, but we could really come up with anything and it would be fine by me. And I certainly don't want mean to waste the art we've already seen by Diamondeye, for one, the team still appreciates it.

That art is not much and basically useless if we are not English. I can design some new fast enough...

Lucro (Portoguese: Profit(?))
Vitória (Portoguese: Victory),
Mundo (Portoguese: World),
Feitoria (... The Portoguese UB),
Anjos (Portoguese: Angels (?)).

I can try and find more portoguese names if you have something else you really think would sound nice. The (?) means that I am unsure of the translation.

Niña and santa maria were both columbus' ships. Ninja sounds the same as Niña out loud. Rex means king(and ofc rex). Rei means king in portogues(and could be made into rex). Equipe means team. Sandiago is the saint of spain + portugal. Madeira is both an island and the alchol(i agree it is not my taste though). We tried various aggregation of words. Newest suggestion was Cavaleiros do Rei which was quickly made into only Cavaleiros.

I really like the sound of that too, and it's even authentic as well. I was brainstorming earlier with some adventurer/explorer sounding names (Team Sabre, Swashbucklers) but Cavaleiros already strikes me as better.

Okay, Cavaleiros sounds fine to me aswell. I'll play around with some art tonite if I have time for it.

On a related note; there seems to be very few pictures/sketches of Knights accessible on the internet (or atleast theyre drowned in Manga and Batman search hits), if anyone has some pics, please post a link for their photobucket location.

If someone wants to help, there is lots of great art on DeviantArt.com, if anyone wants to they can search in there aswell, I already found a couple I like.

Sounds to me like we are close to a decision here, jolly good that. I hereby formally propose Team Cavaleiros to be the new name of the team formerly known as 4. If you have any objections, speak up now or spend forever griping about it.

Okay Bannersketch is down atm (or atleast making a lot of trouble), so I decided to start out with a rough sketch in MS Paint. Attached.

Comments please. Issues I think is important is Text colour (tried dark green for portugal but the pic is dark aswell, so terribly hard to see), border (if any), and text content...

The banner itself seems to be cool. It's a little bit too small to say for sure :)

But the color of the letters, as you already mentioned, destroys the whole impression. there is currently no harmony between the picture and the letters...don't know how to express it differently...

Oyzar, thanks for posting the pic but I do believe I have it in original sizing. that small size was to fit it as avatar, should anyone want that.

In a moment I will edit this post to add the banner. It is size 300 (width) times 218 (height) pixels, and the text is set with Hans Handwriting, size 28 Pixels. The text colour is 0C6B17, and the text has a one-pixel border, colour 00FF15.

I'm fine either way, but we really shouldn't use Dos Cavaleiros since it's not correct grammar. The Knights would be Os Cavaleiros in Portuguese. 'Dos' means 'of'. At least according to google... (rolo?)

I think Team Cavaleiros is probably the easiest to use, and fits in better with the other teams' names.

Raskolnikov, Marcus and I were thinking that we could add the names of the teams that we wipe out to the tombstone as we go along. It hadn't occurred to me to see the image as grim so perhaps adding that statement will do something to change perceptions.

@Raskolnikov changing the team name will be extremely easy, so we don't need to worry bout that till someone actually seems to like the banner lol.

PT told me today that there was need of a seal and had updated the banner with different seal and can change wording easily). DE had given me a link to some seals/shields and I had edited a seal picture that looked too grainy

Man, you guys hear about that fire? It came through my parents house about an hour and a half ago. I won't know until tomorrow whether it burned or not.

So the house made it. :):):) It sat on a ridge line surrounded on three sides by heavy brush. One part of the fire crept up the canyon on one the SE while another part came from the backside NW. They met at the house and started a firestorm, sucking in the 70 mile per hour gusts and growing the flames to about a hundred feet high. My parents saw it from the next ridge line over and then they got out of there. They told me last night they thought it went up, but no. There was a detached garage about 10 feet off the house which got totally destroyed, but the house didn't catch.

There was a 1000 gallon propane tank some ways down the hill and the fire got to about 20 feet from it on all sides but didn't get to the tank. It was miracle if I ever saw one.

That's incredible. 100 foot high flames!

Glad to hear everything was ok in the end. I may be moving to California later this year myself... lots to look forwards to by the sounds of it! ;)
