They used to be a great game developer (think of the SimGames). Very innovative with some stuff. Now all they churn out is Sims expansions and not-so-good games. (Although SimCity 4 was pretty good.) :(

EA. what they said. but there is good news: EA stock feels burn, Universal stokes Inferno By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot Posted Nov 3, 2008 7:02 pm PT Wall Street Journal muses a Disney takeover of share-price-challenged publisher as Variety reports movie studio has landed rights for unannounced game set in depths of hell. Last week, Electronic Arts made headlines for posting a $310 million quarterly loss and laying off 6 percent of its workforce. As a result, its stock took a drubbing on Wall Street, dropping over $3 per share in after-hours trading to end the week at $22.78, just above its one-year low of $21.91. As a result, the publisher, which recently was poised to acquire rival Take-Two Interactive, has become the subject of takeover talk itself. burn EA burn. Maniacal Nov 17, 2008, 01:29 AM I'm glad they can't ruin Take-Two now. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/technology/news/e3i418dddc577c320a4485d767bd82d8b92 Apparently game sales are going up. Sly-God Loki Nov 17, 2008, 06:57 AM To be fair The Sims is a pretty good game even if they have over milked it. J-man Nov 17, 2008, 06:59 AM I hope EA lets Maxis develop a new simcity. Burn societies burn! I want to zone. Izipo Nov 17, 2008, 12:07 PM SimCity 5 with curved roads FTW ! Maniacal Nov 17, 2008, 01:23 PM SimCity 1700! Oruc Nov 18, 2008, 10:45 AM Never understood why people dislike EA, they seem pretty good to me, not as if its Nintendo or something JtheJackal Nov 18, 2008, 11:01 AM Yeah since EA they've made not so good games like Sim City 4, The Sims, The Sims 2, and Spore, oh wait they are good. To be fair they have made some not so good games like SimGolf and I guess some uninspired Sims expansions. (Sim City Societies was not made by Maxis) But they made not so good games before EA too, or attached the Sim name to another developers game. Simcity 4 wasn't bad, after the Rush hour expansion it was (is) pretty good imo. Maniacal Nov 18, 2008, 12:26 PM Spore was a dissapointment. JtheJackal Nov 18, 2008, 01:33 PM Simcity 4 wasn't bad, after the Rush hour expansion it was (is) pretty good imo. I was trying to be sarcastic, but it didn't come across very well. Maniacal Nov 18, 2008, 01:34 PM I was trying to be sarcastic, but it didn't come across very well. Well, I understood the sarcasm. But sarcasm detection can be iffy no matter what. J-man Nov 18, 2008, 02:39 PM I was trying to be sarcastic, but it didn't come across very well. Sarcasm detection on internet forums is notoriously iffy. Besides, spore is a bad game imo. carmen510 Nov 18, 2008, 07:31 PM Simcity 4 was pretty good, I even partly enjoyed Societies for maybe 5 hours. :p SimGolf was okay for me, and I haven't played Spore, nor ever had any interest in it actually. JtheJackal Nov 18, 2008, 09:04 PM Whatever games you do or do not like, the point was that Maxis isn't really that different than it was before EA bought it except now they have multiple insanely successful game series Lord_Iggy Nov 18, 2008, 11:36 PM EA is deep into the process of digesting Maxis. aimeeandbeatles Nov 22, 2008, 10:05 AM I liked the SimGames. SimCity is real good, and I'm surprised they haven't milked it that much. Actually, the original, they put the source code out. If I'm right, it's Micropolis. I have original boxes for SimCity 2000 Deluxe Edition, SimEarth (DOS version), and SimIsle. I also got the manual for SimCopter. A lot of my SimGames I've also got the jewel cases, and I'm planning to buy legal copies of the older ones I've downloaded (such as SimFarm and SimAnt.) King of Town Nov 26, 2008, 05:03 AM I really think it will be hard for the to ruin the simcity games, unless they continue with this societies nonsense. Which they have already released an expansion pack for and will probably do more to milk it. After buying Spore and being disappointed, only to hear they are going to release expansions to make it better, I'm not buying another non simcity game until it's almost ready to be replaced and the expansions are all bundled. leonel Nov 26, 2008, 08:39 PM I think SimCity 4 was the last good thing that came out of Maxis when EA assimilated them. The diversity of what seems to be millions of add-ons greatly extended the game 5 years after it was released. You could imagine my massive disappointment with Societies. aimeeandbeatles Nov 27, 2008, 06:23 AM Another thing that drives me nuts is that the SimMania box sets have the same games except maybe two or three. Just look 'em up on Amazon. I'd rather pay more to have them seperate then to have copies only good for expensive coasters. I've already given away CDs of SimIsle and SimCopter 'cos I have so many. plarq Nov 27, 2008, 07:37 AM Well, I say Take2 is much better than EA. sheep21 Nov 27, 2008, 10:13 AM EA.. eugh they killed my favourite developers and raped the franchise they created :( Westwood Studios and Command & Conquer series. the bastards. salty mud Nov 28, 2008, 02:33 PM Spore was a dissapointment. QFMFT. EA will forever burn in the gaming world's iteration of Hell. Money grabbing cads. aimeeandbeatles Nov 28, 2008, 08:16 PM I was planning on buying SimCity Societies but then I heard about the nasty reviews. Ugh. CivGeneral Nov 29, 2008, 01:08 PM EA Games ate Maxis :(. It's now a subsidiary of EA Games. |
