I just got BTS the other day and wanted to install it. It then tells me that it needs to download the patch 1.74 to continue. So it tries to get it for a few minutes, then just says "The patch failed to install! Abortinng Installer...". So I tried to download it manually. It doesn't work either, saying my version is incompatible (version 1.09).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Well first of all, BtS doesn't even use the 1.74 patch. That's the final version for Civ4, BtS uses 3.17. And it doesn't need to download it, it comes on the BtS disc. If it's not installing properly, then there's something wrong with your original game. You might want to consider re-installing that too.

I've tried reinstalling, still nothing.

I think 1.74 requires 1.61 to install.

EDIT: Thanks, it appears that the problem was that I needed 1.61.
