Is it possible to create a unit which is almost entirely blue in color without making it civ color? In other words I want to make a unit which has a blue uniform but do not want the palette to pick up the blue of the uniform as a civ color. How can I do that?
Many thanks!

Well I am no unit making expert however I do believe you can choose any color you want to for the civ color. So if you set civ color to red the blue will be uneffected.

I too have seen references to red being the civ color - allowing, for example, blue uniforms.

It all depends on which colours are placed in the first part of the pallet. You can find out which these are by opening a unit with flicster and changing the civ colour.

OK. I think I may have an idea of how to do it. Thanks for the replies. I created a red civ palette by exporting one from Civ3FlcEdit. I'm assuming I should be able to use the palette to change the civ specific color in the unit to red.

That's right. Create your animations in Poser in the usual way, using red (or whatever you want to be the civ colour) instead of blue. In order to make the palette, you will need to load up an existing flic into Flicster and then export it, choosing the option Civ Colour=0 (or something like that - this is from memory). That will create a palette with red colours in the civ colour slots instead of blue. Then just proceed as usual.

Actually, there are a number of units that already use red as civ color (Rifleman and a couple others), and Red is Civ Color 1. ;)

Some of my aircraft with blue-ish camouflage work just fine, as long as the blue has a green component (per RGB). All my units use blue as the civ color.

Yes, The Palette does not care what colors are used...it is all managed by index so it is possible to use the same color for a CIV Specific Color as well as the Unit Color. In order to accomplish loading a palette fast, it is best to keep the Civ Specific Colors and the Unit Colors very different...otherwise it can cause more procedures but the unit color and palette can be adjusted as you like.

Thanks. I got the red palette to work. I used it on the Vietcong Guerilla who has very dark blue clothing. Worked like a charm! :)
