A Civ 1 forum, thats cool:cool:
Could someone pls help stop an argument I'm having with a mate. Unfortunately I dont have Civ 1 anymore so I cant check myself:(
I reckon that the isometric grid did not appear until Civ 2 whereas my freind says that Civ 1 was isometric.
Who is right? Him or Me?
Thanks

Civ1 is top-down, the only isometric view I an think of is when you view a city.. which isn't completely isometric (in the SNES version.. the sreenshots I've seen of the PC version had a more isometric city view I think.. snes version is a bit more straight-on.. but that is all..)

Yep. No ugly isometric garbage until CivII.
Not counting the picture of your city, - however I presume its the maps you are talking about. All the maps in Civ1 are nice clean 2d overhead views :-)

This is exactly what separates the Civ1 lovers from the Civ2/3 lovers, it's the view. You either like it or not. I like the Civ1 top-view a lot and just can't get used to the isometric view...

Thanks for the info everyone! :goodjob:
I'd completely forgot about this, my mate has just brought it up again and it jogged my memory about my post, needless to say he is sat accross the room from me right now red faced and angry  :o

Well just tell him that the top down view sucks..because it does...You shouldn't be able to move 2 spaces(i left and one down) just by hitting diagonal...it's not right :)

I think I isometric view was one of the many reasons why I disliked Civ II...
