View Full Version : Mississippian/Mound Builder Leader
Huayna Capac357 Nov 28, 2008, 11:06 AM Could I please have a Mound Builder or Mississippian Leader? Maybe based on this guy?

That would be truly awesome. They reached the Copper Age. Had Europe not come, who knows? Maybe they would have reached the Bronze Age c. 1600 and even greater heights later? They were advanced for their time and made intricate statues and mounds.

I don't know any names...maybe Red Horn (from a myth of their religion)?
I can't think of anything else...
I have a city list that I made as well but I lost it. I can remake one, though.
So, R8FXT, Shiro, CivArmy, sween, Rita Poon, anybody else, if you don't have anything going on...
RedAlert Nov 28, 2008, 12:40 PM Hi, HC. I know that Sword of Geddon had been working on a Mississippian leaderhead; preview here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6939362&postcount=36). Sword hasn't posted for a few months, so I don't know when he might complete it.
Here's (http://demeter.museum.state.il.us/pub/dmmweb/Images/Mississippian/Mississippian%20Town.jpg) another concept art for a Mississippian chief, which I suggested to SoG for his leaderhead.
Goldfool Nov 28, 2008, 01:02 PM Did they actual build those hills? That's incredible.
A place to go during floods:)

Not that I'm not a fan of the Mound-Builders (and the more Native American for Civ, the better, IMHO) but weren't the Mound-Builders well in decline by the time the Europeans arrived? From what I've read, they were a victim to poor land management...overpopulation + overfarming = not enough food to go around. Or something like that.

Poor land management for sure. Look at those hills, they could be used as a bunker against a nuclear strike, maybe they were thinking ahead.

The Mississippians and preceding cultures built a variety of different mounds for different reasons. For example, some flat-topped mounds would support buildings of importance such as a temple or a chief's residence. Others were burial mounds; and some irregularly shaped mounds took the form of certain animals if viewed from above.

Also, increased warfare and I believe climate change too, just off the top of my head. Although the introduction of European diseases in the 1500s (often preceding Europeans themselves) couldn't have helped matters any.
Madeira Dec 30, 2008, 06:16 AM Im bumping this thread to second this request, and to request an opinion on a name for this civilization, should it be called Adena, Cahokia (which is the name of the capital) or Mississipi?

Well there's all the modding info. For an LH, you could probably find an acceptable substitute one by Civarmy, Shiro, or R8XFT somewhere.
Madeira Dec 30, 2008, 11:44 AM Thanks for the info, I'll compare your city list with the one i have, where did you get those names? I've also thought instead of mississipian culture, I could use the earlier clovis culture, since my mod starts in pre-history for the american civs

I got them from wiki.
Huayna Capac357 Dec 30, 2008, 11:49 AM PS: I made a Mississippian city style, as did Red Alert.

They were actually gone by 1400.

As much of a reason not to include them as a civ as, say, the Mayans, the Babylonians... :mischief:
wolf_brother Dec 30, 2008, 10:33 PM I have the Cahokia Mounds as an ancient age wonder in my current project that 'adds +1 trade in each trade-producing tile.' I use Ukas wonderful graphics (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=104162&highlight=mound) for the building and this image (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/15/Chromesun_mississippian_priest_digital_painting.jp g) for the splash.

I never said not to include them. Read my original reply -- it was a reaction to the supposition that they would have thrived without European contact.
