View Full Version : World War 1979
tctatheel7 Aug 18, 2002, 09:58 AM Here it is, my first scenario for civ3! USA is not quite finished, but i'll post what I have so far. The scenario is something like this:
"In 1979, when Iranian religous fanatics invaded a U.S. Embassey and took a number of hostages, then-president Jimmy Carter took the sane and intelligent route out of the situation, but what if he hadn't? Considering the state of nuclear readiness at that time, the result might have been something like this."
Yes, this is a quote about the original WW79 scenario for civ 2 in the civ2 gold manual.
trepanier Aug 18, 2002, 10:21 AM what is the size of the map ? Long to load? wotks with 1.29 ?
tctatheel7 Aug 18, 2002, 10:35 AM It's a huge map. Kind of long to load, but shorter than "Now" scenario. Yes, it works with 1.29.
tctatheel7 Aug 18, 2002, 11:03 AM Here's the finished product. Enjoy!
(I have moved the finished product to a post near the bottom)
trepanier Aug 18, 2002, 11:59 AM My computer is too slow for huge maps... I will just try with xp, not 98...
tctatheel7 Aug 18, 2002, 12:23 PM I see it's been downloaded. Any comments?
Drynagolt Aug 18, 2002, 04:35 PM Yeah it looks pretty good so far. I am playing as the Soviets
tctatheel7 Aug 18, 2002, 04:35 PM Some more feedback would be nice. Thanx Drynagolt.
Drynagolt Aug 18, 2002, 06:12 PM K, here is one prob i think. FOr the Russian city on the black sea, there are a lot of naval units, but the problem is they can;t go anywhere. At least not now. I am not sure if there is a "canal" through Istanbul, but even if there is it is kinda dumd for Russia.
tctatheel7 Aug 19, 2002, 05:25 AM I did that on puropse. It gives you an incintive to attack the middle east. You can use the editor to move them into the mediteranian if you like....
Incubus0223 Aug 19, 2002, 10:17 AM wow just perfect!!!!! its almost exactly the same i forgot what it looks like but it seems like you added some pollution to parts of russia and also america (i think) has a little differenet cities in diff places but then again its accurate just perfect also could you make a readme file or something for when i upload it to the other site i will know what you want me to say and just PM the readme or whatever to me
:goodjob:, :goodjob:, :goodjob:, :goodjob:, :goodjob:, & very :goodjob:
tctatheel7 Aug 19, 2002, 10:55 AM Can I use my first post as my discription in the readme Incubus?
BTW, I'm glad you like it.
tctatheel7 Aug 19, 2002, 12:16 PM i'll assume the answer is yes
tctatheel7 Aug 19, 2002, 01:52 PM CRAP! I forgot Seoul! Sorry guys. Here it is WITH Seoul.
cgannon64 Aug 20, 2002, 11:57 AM Two questions:
How do I change my civ from North America to Soviets or someone?
And does the WW start automatically, or do we have to start it?
tctatheel7 Aug 20, 2002, 12:21 PM To change, open up WW79 in editor. Go to Scenario, then player properties. Select player 2, North America, and deselect the human player option. Go to player 1, Soviet Bloc, and check "human player". Save and exit. ; You have to start the war.
Phoenix Aug 21, 2002, 10:25 AM Sounds good. This is the cold war gone wrong right? If so good - I've been tring to make my own sen for it as I couldn't find one (U might want to rename it to the cold war so people can find it).

Yes, this is a cold war WW3 map. No, I will not change the name because it is based on the World War 1979 Scenario for civ 2 and i want people to know that i'm not the origninal creater of this map, i am just the one who brought it to civ 3. (Does anyone know the name of the civ2 WW79 creater? I'd like to give him some credit in the intro.)
amadeus Aug 25, 2002, 02:40 PM Good start, but lots of pretty important cities are missing. I'd recommend adding these:
AFRICA
N'djamena, Chad
Lagos, Nigeria
Johannesburg or Pretoria, South Africa
Nairobi, Kenya
Kinshasa, Zaire
CENTRAL/SOUTH AMERICA
Panama City, Panama
Mexico City, Mexico
Havana, Cuba
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Bogata, Colombia
Carcaras, Venezuela
Lima, Peru
Rio de Janero, Brazil
Buenos Aries, Argentina
Santiago, Chile
EUROPE
Kiel - Should read Copenhagen
Berlin, Germany - Most of the Berlin-area was Soviet-dominated. Bonn was the West German seat of gov.
ASIA
Rangoon, Burma
Hanoi, Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Bangkok, Thailand
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Jakarta, Indonesia
Singapore
Hong Kong, U.K. territory (part of United Kingdom until 1997)
AUSTRALIA
Sydney
Perth
Darwin
New Zealand doesn't appear on map.
And a slight historical correction...
Iran and Iraq fought a bloody eight year war after the Ayatollah took power Iran. Tehran could work better as a barbarian city.
tctatheel7 Sep 01, 2002, 10:56 AM You are right, those are important cities, but my scenario is only the cities of the civ 2 scenario. Feel free to add these cities to your copy and post it in this, or another thread, but I am not going to add them.
Yoda Power Sep 28, 2002, 02:43 AM you have placed China in siberia and nobody in China
tctatheel7 Sep 28, 2002, 04:20 AM that's the way it was in the civ 2 version, that's the way it's gonna stay. You can change it yourself though, i dont care, just give me some credit if u post it
Vassili1985 Oct 04, 2002, 01:55 PM I already unzipped it. into da scenarios
but when i load it, they said smth bout it not being a CV3 scenario map

tctatheel7 Oct 07, 2002, 02:08 PM u need version 1.29 to run it. what version do u have?
Vassili1985 Oct 07, 2002, 04:12 PM oh....i see

Detroithockey Jan 29, 2003, 12:03 PM Anyone know of any mods or scenarios that are MAcintosh G3 compatible???? email @ tpc87@yahoo.com or post
raptor7833 Feb 19, 2003, 11:58 AM this was by far my fav scenario in civ 2. Thank u for bringing it back to me!!
gosh, i feel stupid. How in the world do you add units?
nm, didnt have an active player. The only change i would make to the scenario would be to make hawaii a little more hospitable, more like marla's hawaii. Oh, and make it so you can chose which civ to be, and changed the dating system to weeks or months instead of years. Looks good!
tctatheel7 Feb 20, 2003, 03:41 PM I'm glad u like it raptor. I wish i could make it so u could choose your civ, but the crappy civ 3 editor wont allow it. I did explain a way to change your civ on the first page though. It's pretty simple, just open it up in the civ3 editor and go to Scenario, then player properties. Select player 2, North America, and deselect the human player option. Go to player 1, Soviet Bloc (or whichever civ you want), and check "human player". Save and exit.
Also, as far as I know, there is no way to change it to months. sorry
BTW, does anyone know if i can convert it to a PTW type scenario?
Sarevok May 04, 2003, 01:56 PM damn... im impressed by how accurate this is to the civ2 scenario. I was compariing it to this (yes i still play civ2 every once in a while) and i found it highly accurate. If only you could set up relations!
Tommy1234567890 Oct 22, 2005, 12:08 PM where the hell is the download??????
Tommy1234567890 Oct 22, 2005, 12:08 PM i wasn't aware this thread was dead
Red Door Oct 22, 2005, 08:03 PM Wow, what a waste of a bump.
