Deth McBones Dec 02, 2008, 11:34 AM Pounder and BadKharma, but just barely.
I love the amphitheater and the colosseum in the size 2 and 3 cities.
All entries are very good, this race should get a little tighter as time goes on...
Taras Bulba Dec 02, 2008, 02:00 PM those Oceanid Cities look amazing.... they get my vote, but it was a tough choice
Rob (R8XFT) Dec 02, 2008, 02:17 PM Likewise, a tough choice, but RedAlert just edged it.
againsttheflow Dec 02, 2008, 04:03 PM Pounder just edged for me. :D Nice work all around.
Balthasar Dec 02, 2008, 05:23 PM Damn. It's a lot easier being a contestant than a judge, in this case. Everything's great. In particular, Goldfool's work is excellent (though I don't like the gems - but that's just a matter of personal taste, it's technically fine), and I'll be using it immediately, but I've got to give my vote to Pounder for sheer perfectness. Sorry Goldfool, you lost my vote by a thin red hair.
RedAlert Dec 03, 2008, 06:00 AM I personally think that the Roman Cities are Pounder's best city set so far. Not only that, I think they are the best Roman city graphics so far (and we've had several).
The other entries being as good as they are, making a decision wasn't exactly easy. But my vote will go to the excellent Roman Cities. :goodjob:
Kyriakos Dec 03, 2008, 03:17 PM I voted for the oceanid cities :)
Virote_Considon Dec 04, 2008, 05:05 AM I did, too, although it wasn't an easy one by far ;)
Moosezilla Dec 04, 2008, 06:16 AM I really did not feel worthy to vote, but when i think of civ-V and a possible "park area" worker action i have to vote for Maxis.
T.A JONES Dec 04, 2008, 11:31 AM OH wow 3d resources. Yes you get the vote.
I was waiting for the day since I saw the 3d towns and forts and got thinking .... Why not ya know, resources? All we need now is a good 3d tree selection that props up Forests and jungles, yet lets units not look stupid when ontop. Add Ares sattalite-like desert texture with Mybe some 3d cacti and The dream is close at hand now thanks to Goldfool! . Basicly all combined we have like a civ4 gamboard the way it should have looked 3d and played accordinlgy. If Steph finishes his editer then we could see a civ5 early lol
UPDATE: what hes loosing! How? I think judges need to be looking at the BIG PICTURE! Heres a rev new approach, one that is needed for the 3d city sets that are so painstakingkly put together, one that does its part to make our game the best frame per frame so we can all be just a lil more proud of the work going on here!.
To help acheive more then civ4 and by a community not paid bums deserves highest praise not a lose. To top it off all the resources, they all look great!.
Yet he should win for the idea alone, for helping the other artists in their long standing goal completing a redrawn estically pleasing version of what was once labled 'yellowish crap' > I call on all good contestents to hand this one to Goldfool out of artist/inventors respect an a mutal aprecaition the bold effort in furthering this grand artistic community's vision for the future!! .:goodjob:
(oh and I know a few resources were already 3d but not a set and not to the level required today thanks to the artists who have been busy applying 3d- or other life-like symmetry, to or performace-tuned playing surface, amazing! I love you all lol
imperator1961 Dec 04, 2008, 02:34 PM Well, its' an hard choice, but my vote go to Goldfool.
kairob Dec 04, 2008, 05:34 PM I voted for Goldfool too, and before T.A. Jones' rant. I just thought they were the best resources ever, the only downside is that the are so few. :(
Stormrage Dec 04, 2008, 05:41 PM OH wow 3d resources. Yes you get the vote.

How exactly does it matter it a gfx was made in 3D or in 2D when its shown, and can only be seen as 2D? :hmm:
Thumbsup to Goldfool for his idea and work, but to me Civ4 gfx look just as ugly in Civ3 as they do in Civ4... To each his own, I guess..
Goldfool Dec 04, 2008, 06:57 PM @T.A. JONES
Thanks for the comments.
Typically I make stuff for my own use and I post them here (like every one else) so that others can have alternatives.
I know that tastes vary and most people will not use my mods. If one other person uses the mod, then we have a winner. It will never be a waste of time because I will at least get some use out of them.:)
BTW, only some of those where borrowed from Civ 4.
Tank_Guy#3 Dec 04, 2008, 07:32 PM I really liked the resources, but in the end I voted for the Oceanid cities. These contests are never easy...
Hikaro Takayama Dec 05, 2008, 09:43 PM I really liked the resources, but in the end I voted for the Oceanid cities. These contests are never easy...
Ditto here... It looks like Red Alert started with some of the Firaxis Asian city buildings, painstakingly hand-painted them, adding detailed brick work, no less and gave them a nice, polished professional-looking finish. Excellent Work.:goodjob:
Ogedei_the_Mad Dec 05, 2008, 11:28 PM My vote goes to Goldfool's contribution. Having isometric resources on an isometric map really does wonders for the overall look. It makes the game map appear less static and awkward. :)
RedAlert Dec 09, 2008, 02:40 PM Congratulations Pounder! :goodjob:
Thanks everyone for the great competition. Also thanks for all the nice comments regarding (and votes for ;)) the Oceanid cities.
Hikaro Takayama Dec 09, 2008, 03:49 PM Good Job Pounder! :goodjob:
Pounder Dec 09, 2008, 06:47 PM Thanks everyone:)
I agree with RedAlert, this was a great competition. The last couple months has been much better having five competitors rather than having a head to head match, or even worse single entries.
I know I'll be using some of these, I'm already using some of Goldfool's resources and I have plans to add georgestow's ballpark to one of my irrigations (a la Field of Dreams).
Gary Childress Dec 09, 2008, 07:00 PM Congratulations Pounder!! :goodjob:

If you mod it, they will download.... ;)

Vuldacon Dec 10, 2008, 04:56 AM Congratulations Pounder :goodjob: I must say that I like all of the Entries... Hat's Off to All of you :hatsoff:
Goldfool Dec 10, 2008, 05:04 AM Good win, congrats Pounder:goodjob:

Oh it matters. If all the map features appeared like a cartoon 3d instead of the look from out-of-da-box we currently see , then it'd all look a hella lot better. With Units thats what we already have. Using new poser n what not, a 'refined t rez', more modern look has come about where its always been some form of 3d (least over previous models in Civ 1 and 2) .
Now redraw a more refined rez and in '3d' terrain, with features like 3d palms, alpine and coniferous trees, cati, mountains and all that, to go with are 'great artist's rendition such as 3d citys, forts, mine n irrigation farms, + now Goldfool's 3d resources,,,, All blended naturally for essentialy a new modern-look make over (over are current peice-together modded map approach) . One day we'll have it all Trust me :)
About Civ4 ,. That game is only 3d when you fly about, a complete waste of time IMO. Otherwise its just a new angle like we see here with a 3d 'look' resource instead of stamp. These steps of progresss need to all be complete before the toal pictur comes together. Now the jobs closer to complete and when that days comes all mods will benift
Those kind of graphics where the whole map is 'upgraded' (2d's new polished 3dish look) would sell in 2004-2005 even 06 mybe, and the civ3 ones would have not. Thats a better way of sayin it. Be silly to think I don't apreciate other contestants work. Im just sayin this was a peice of puzzle we needed. Its progress.
OH , and that guy who said I was on a "rant" back there? Humph! What--a --JERK! Like do I ever go off in such long ass lecturious ways? :mischief: Cheers all! :xmascheers:
