I have downloaded the save, but not opened it.

I won't be able to play until after 9pm local on Thursday; Christmas Choir practise at church. I advance the Powerpoint slides that the choir uses to sing from.

Right now I plan to build our war-starting city on The Council. And to be more aggresive with our defense of Gong. The Forests have been planted (last one will be completed this turn) but our troops are not dispersed.

Two things really worry me about Saber's military: 6 Armies and 17 Transports. I assume the Armies are in Transports (and not defending the homeland), but we can only account for 9 Transports off the south coast of The Council. That leaves 8 Transports unaccounted for. They could be getting ready to take on Gong.

I do think we need some SAMs, which will delay our invasion a bit, since we have none at the moment.

Are we going to abandon the city this turn? SABER would still see the rubble.

Even if SABER attacks GONGland, we come out ahead since we will hopefully take out their core.

The new city I want to have The Council 'take out'. Then they can show the screenshot to the UN and declare how righteous their cause it, yada, yada.

If we had sent 5 Tanks and 1 Settler over to The Council, and built a city and that city was captured (all 5 Tanks destroyed), when does that show up in our Military Advisor. At the time they are destroyed (on The Council's turn) or when we get the game again?

I am assuming that Saber has planted a spy on us. If they have our Turn 240 numbers and we build the city on Turn 240 and lose 5 Tanks on Turn 241 (The Council) what does Saber see on their turn? Our numbers at that point in the turn (241) or our numbers from when we ended our turn (240)?

General Notes and Plans
No more pollution.

Saber Invasion Force is 6S-1Sw of The Silo, found by Mercy of Meleet. Only 8 Transports now, not 9.

I did not see nearly as many Saber destroyers this turn. I was very concerned about the Saber Invasion Force early in the turn when I could not find it. I was afraid that it was sailing for Gong, so I moved force to spot and stop it. Near the end of the turn I found it and confirmed the damage that The Council inflicted.

Change some builds around and spend cash. We will have have 4 Mobile SAMs and two more Transports next turn.

We plant more forests in Gong.

Build Free The Council and start a war. We lose Dyes.

Cycle through the cities again. Only one place, We Built This City, needs any tweaking; taxmen to clowns and hire a 3rd clown.

Space Flight in 47; 9 gold, +1029 gpt.

Rushing the Transports puts us very low on cash.

I scared myself as I played the turn because I thought all of our Saber units were stacked outside Freedom Central. :eek: I thought, Oh, no! What have we committed to? There are only about 30 units in that stack, not near enough to do Saber any damage. Then I remembered about all the units parked in the capital and felt much better. :lol:

Yes.

I wasn't sure about extending the forests all around Gong. We'll need more workers for that. (add to the ToDo List) Some of the original Gong cities (Hanger 18 comes to mind) have an unhappy citizen at size one. I think we should do something with these cities. Abandon and replace with new Free cities seems to be the best answer.

Small coatal cities we can abandon, then road/rail/forest (or maybe just forest).

In our larger coastal cities I don't want to move too quickly. We have 43% of the world's population. If we start killing cities too quickly, we'll make one part of the Dominaition conditions easier for Saber.

I am considering rushing workers in the large coastal cities. They are cheaper than workers and we need more workers to forest the Gong coastline. We rushed a lot of settlers eariler, but most of those cities have grown back.

I'm thinking we need a revised master defense plan of Gong, one that starts with Gong as a (mostly) blank slate. We get our coastal defense (new forests/pillaging) mapped out and then we place cities in the interior. If we have to move cities, we do. We have 15 settlers in Gong; that should be plenty.

I can follow such a plan.

I'm questioning the SABER invasion. They are obviously waiting for something to happen. We need to keep a close eye on the COUNCIL to make sure they aren't trying to sneek away with space while us and SABER are staring at each other.

Yes, I think they are too. I think they want to see us hurt The Council in some way. I thought that they were gung-ho on stopping The Council. Now I am wondering if they are waiting for us to hit The Council so that they can hit us.

They have had their Invasion Force in place to invade The Council for several turns. We first spotted that force on Turn 238 and they could have landed on Turn 239, but did not. That bothers me.

I think we need to talk to The Council to see if they can see any more Saber Transports. And get an update on Saber's forces.

The key is how many turns we spend at sea. If it is only one (the current plan) then we cannot reach any Saber cities from Unshackled in just 12 moves. If we spend two turns at sea we can attack cities directly (18 moves) but we risk being found out by Saber.

I admit I haven't given any consideration to being at sea for two turns. It seemed like a bad idea since, if we were spotted by Saber, they would know that we were planning to attack them.

However, if their forces have been thinned out by The Council (which we need to check), then this becomes easier and less risky.

Does SABER have Magellan? I'm very nervous about their stack on Subcommittee Island ... I could easily see them loading up again and invading our core on Turn 244.

No. The Council has Magellan. If we move 1 or 2 tiles from our cities, we still will have low odds of discovery by SABER.

Have we tried to plant a spy recently? Stealing their plans would defiantly help us, although it would be expensive.

Just requested an extension in turn 242.

We last tried to plant a spy in Saber on Turn 239. It failed.

If we can plant a spy in Saber (I hope! I hope! I hope!) we may not have enough cash to buy their military plans. I will check.

In our most recent letter to The Council (just sent), I asked for their data on Saber's military. I know they did some damage to Saber before The Tower fell/was abandoned.

Magellan's Voyage is in The Admirality of The Council. Too bad we cannot trade cities to take advantage of Magellan's. Should have thought of that before the war.

We have lost the Southern Saber Invasion Fleet that was South of The Council. I thought I had found it last turn, but that was the Northern Saber Invasion Fleet, headed for Subcommittee Island. My bad. Both have/had 8 Transports.

So this turn we need to find that fleet.

Saber Invasion and the Invasion of Saber
We really need Saber to invade The Council and get those units committed into battle. Should we try to occupy the 1 tile island off the north corner of The Council (our Numenor)? That might convince Saber that we are serious. That island could serve as a staging area for a land invasion of The Council. We would supply it from the north (which gives our ships a reason to be in the area), leaving from Unschackled/Debt-Free and saling to about 6N of that
island. Not sure if that is wise or not, but I thought we could discuss it some.

Also on the table is spending two turns at sea on our way to invade Saber, with Marines leading the way.

If we invade with Marines first, SABER won't be able to attack our troops before we take their cities. And we surprise them more, and so have a better shot of destroying their core before they can attack us.

They're waiting to attack us. The attack on Sub Commie Island was trying to get us thinking they were for real, but they had the chance to invade, but they didn't. I feel like the COUNCIL and SABER are converging in some alliance together.

We attempt to plant a spy in Saber, for 100 gold. We fail.

Smoke on the Water quiets down.

One polluted tiles (FREE) this turn, a forest.

In Unshackled, we load 10 Transports:

A later screenshot shows various invasion routes.

In 2 more turns we will have 4 Transports in Unshackled that can be loaded up. We have 2 Artillery and 11 MAs that did not load. Next turn we build 2 MAs and 1 Mech Infantry. We will need 8 more units to fill up the Transports. We have 3 MAs and 1 Artillery that will complete in 2 turns, leaving 4 vacant spots. Not sure what we can rush.

Free-Registration kills one of The Council's submarines, I think. It shot at something as it moved. And I checked the Foreign Advisor; we were only at war with The Council, not Saber.

We do not find Saber's Southern Invasion Force. It may have sailed back west, into safer waters (Saber's).

Email/post to The Council on the submarine issue and our not finding the Saber Invasion Force.

Just opened the save.

See that The Council had occupied the 11 tile island between Saber and Babe. Last turn it was Saber's, now it is The Council's. Both are still at war with each other. All three cities are at size 2 and Rubber is connected to all three. Cattaraugus has a harbor and the island has an airstrip. So, The Council has a source of Rubber and does not need ours.
All three cities were size 3 last turn and were Saber.

Posted that data (with screenshots).

Need to congradulate The Council on this feat.

Both of our routes to Saber will take 5 moves of our Transports. I'm not sure which is the better target; Claymore or Katana.

However, we see very little of Saber's navy. I had expected them to blockade us off. They were certainly able to do that; just look at some of the screenshots from last turn. And The Council is still untouched.

I'm willing to pull the trigger, or at least send Destroyers along the route to scout for Saber's navy.

Anything we have forgotten or need to do?

(And yes, I have a story in mind and about halfway done with it. It is not as long as the last set of stories.)

I am not going to be able to play Turn 144. I leave in just a few hours for my son's wedding in Florida this Saturday.

Sorry for the late notice. I kept trying to carve out time to play this turn, but I never got enough time to start and finish the turn.

Turn 144 To Do List
We have units that can invade Saber this turn. They are 4W-4NW of Unshackled. They can reach either Claymore or Katana. I favor Claymore a little; once we capture the city we have a shorter defensive perimeter. So does Saber, too.

A few post back I detailed the make up of the land forces in this invasion. We have Marines and we will need them to assualt the city, after we weaken the defenders with bombardments from the Destroyers and Cruiisers. We have SAMs and Mech Inftantry for defense, along with a Settler and a Worker (Airfield in waiting).

We do not know where the Saber Invasion Fleets are located. They could be bad news.

If we start the Saber war this turn, we will lose a luxury. We should be able to make that up by offering Peace and a luxury to The Council.

I would like to investigate both Claymore and Katana before invading. I did not check the cost to do so.

In Unshackled we have 4 Transports, 2 Cruisers and 1 Destroyer. I was planning to send the rest of our Modern Armor (outside Freeedom Central) to Saber in these transports. We gain several Modern Armor this turn, also. They can go overseas.

We do not need to leave our SGL exposed in the open. Be sure to put at least one unit with him as camouflage.

I airlifted one worker to the mainland to help with pollution cleanup. We may need to airlift another.

In Gong I am planting forests like mad. We need to abandon the coastal cities. Our coastal forests have rails; we may need to pillage those rails.

In Detail
With the wedding on Saturday the 3rd, and the Rehersal Dinner on Friday the 2nd, my wife did not want to arrive in town Friday and have to rush to get to the hotel, set up and decorate for the Reherasal Dinner and so on. It is about 770 miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to western Florida; easily 12 to 14 hours of driving. She wanted to arrive early and have all day for set up and last minute tasks. And not be rushed. That would mean arriving on Thursday, New Years Day. Not exactly the best time to be on the roads.

So we will do our driving on New Year's Eve and get into town long before the festivities start.

We will be driving back on Sunday. I have that Monday off.

After opening the save, I'm not sure if we are ready to invade. SABER probably has 5-10 defenders in their coastal cities, and I don't think we have enough marines. Our naval units will bomb any of their naval units first, plus they won't have much power against 33 str Mechs. With their armies and MA, the can destroy most of our invasion force. I also think GONGland is underdefended if they invade us. If we got another 10-15 marines, we could probably take a coastal city easily. If we had more intel, we could make a better decision, but I'm not sure if now is the right time.

If we wait 8 turns (roughly breakeven, 6 at 100%), we could get stealth bombers, which can reach the SABER mainland from our shores.

We can get our forces back into Unshackled in two turns (8 MPs). Or we can sail them down the coast of Saber and make a feint toward The Council.

If invading now is too risky, I'm fine with that.

We have 4 more Transports in Unshackled.

Do we/can we deny Rubber to Saber?

Can we get Babe to investigate Saber cities?

Denying them rubber will be difficult since they can rush an airport if we blockade. We would have to capture the city, which would reveal our plans.

I doubt we can beat the Council to space - they just need to make peace with BABE to get out of mobilization. If they get wind that we're close to building our ship, they can easily make peace and beat us to the punch.

That's what I first thought, too. Gongland is in danger.

And I still worry that it might be. But they would need a lot more units to do anything extensive. Mechs couldn't get that far on their first turn.

I'm wondering if this isn't an escape city, like Woodstock is for Babe?

Two more pollution appear this turn: 1N of Chicago XIII (grass) and 1N of Ishme-shemash (forest).

The Council built The Old Gong Isle on their turn, on Gong's Ellis Island.

In Gong, we have several interior that are at size 1 but will compelte workers in 2 turns. I did not check all of these cites, but the ones I did had everyone in the city bearing a grudge on FREE. Next turn I am considering adding some of our 16 settlers to those cities in order to 1) not have to abandon the city when the worker completes and 2) change attitudes of our remaining diehards Gongers. I hope that having two citizens will allow one to play farmer and get the city growing again.

Did not try to place a spy in Saber this turn. Will try next turn.

I've asked for an extension on this turn. My PC and C3C are not getting along. Trying to start the game, or trying to start MapStat, just freezes the machine. Even after uninstall/reinstall. Just the mouse arrow, the hourglass, and nothing else.

My wife's machine is fine, as afar as I know. I'll try it out tomorrow.

New pollution near Fortress of Meleet prevented the Cruiser from completing.

Free World (Gong) built a worker that I overlooked last turn.

Saber is in Anarchy; they were in Republic.

(No movement done; F3 data updated; Posted Turn 248 Preview).

Sent Sub Looter up the coast of The Council; saw a Mech Inf in The Pier but nothing on the shores. Seeing the Transport in The New Yard seemed a bit odd, however.


To steal Saber's plans cost 4080/6120/8160 for Immediately/Carefully/Safely. We have about 1100 gold, so this won't happen anytime soon. To the same to The Council costs 2471/3706/4942.

Factoid:
Stealth Bomber: 240 shields, needs Oil and Aluminum; Range of 16.
Stealth Figher: 120 shields, needs Oil and Aluminum; Range of 12, can see 2 squares.

Second turn of Saber's Anarchy.

Mountain pollution is cleaned; clean up pollution near Fortress of Meleet. This leaves only two polluted tiles, a plains and a forest.

I've regrouped our ships so that it is easier (I hope) to tell more about our unit allocations.

Hire some taxmen to help with our cash.

Next turn I will changing some builds back to Modern Armor as prebuilds for Stealth Bombers. Those puppies cost twice as much as Modern Armor, 240 shields to 120 shields. So even Freedom Central would take 4 turns to make one Stealth Bomber. Unless we want to disband something to help build the SBombers.

Workers in Gong have forestted everything they can, until we reduce some cities.

Once we learn Stealth we'll have to scale back our tech efforts. Right now we can drop science down to 70% and still learn Stealth in 3. So on the last turn we can reduce science quite a bit and make back some of the cash we've lost.
