I'm playing the vikings and I have currency researched. However, for some reason I get not gold in my cities from the tiles that produce gold. The thing says 0% of (say 20 for a city that has 20 gold), and I get 0 per turn. The only way it seems to get gold at all is to either have specialists or have the city produce gold. No gold comes from the tiles at all, and my economy is sitting on -19. Is this a glitch? Do I need a patch?

you can't produce gold in tiles, only commerce. Hence you have your science+culture sliders set to 100% total and produce no gold from commerce (0% of 20 commerce, in your example).
These are base mechanics of the Civilization 4 game... why do you post them in the RFC MP forum ? O_O

Ya.. my fault. I figured this out last night. I guess a mod could move or delete this. I hadn't played Civ IV in over a year, and just started back up on Rhye's and Fall MP. Anyways, it keeps going OOC with just two people on a LAN so it won't be playable anyways =(

just in 2? Did it happen in a particular circumstance?

We both have pretty decent computers. It always seems fine until we start to get in the later years, around 1500 AD or later. This time it had happened once already, but we had reloaded it, then later on it happened on a specific turn, so we reloaded the autosave a few turns earlier and it happened on that same turn again. I can check it out and see if it does it on that turn all the time. Maybe if it's consistent and I sent you the save it might be possible to see what causes OOC.
