Bravo, Zachriel!

Your account of this Conquest victory was quite ironic. Your letters showed the true purity and compassion of your great French empire, yet your victory must have been bloody as hell :)

Great summary as usual :) I like Jeanne's letters to Napoleon, but I'm not sure if i'm mistaken here or if you just forgot that Jeanne never ever could write a letter to Napoleon because she lived about 300 years before him :) Bonaparte was born in 1769 and Jeanne D'arc was allegedly born in 1412. Maybe you're referring to another Napolean, in that case i'm sorry. Anyway, great read!

You must be thinking of the Jeanne D'Arc who was martyred at age 19. The Joan of Mon Cher Napoleón lived to the ripe old age of 60 (centuries). ;)

Quoting from a letter by Joan to the English warlords,

"Se ne voulez croire les nouvelles de par dieu et la pucelle en quelque lieu que vous trouverons nous ferrons <frapperons> dedens et y ferons ung si grant hahay que encores a il mil ans que en france ne fust si grant."

"If you do not believe the tidings sent by God and the Maiden, wherever we find you we will strike within your midst, and will make so great a stir there that not for a thousand years has France seen one as great."

Once again great job!! I look forward to reading your story every month. Matrix needs to create a new category for best story told for the GOTM. So far you would win hands down.

Can't wait until next month.

Great recount once again, but (forgive my naivete) was there a point to planting all the forests beyond adding to the narrative?

Cheers!

To conquer France, Joan had to leave some of the land fallow to avoid a premature domination victory. The extra workers formed from captured cities were a ready source of labor, which were then joined to outlying French towns. Most planted forests could be cut for shields if the land was ever settled in the far distant future; so it truly was a fallow reserve.

Plus planting trees created a beautiful park reserve for the always popular Chasse Barbare -- training ground of the elite.

J'ai nom Jehanne la Pucelle

In honor of Joan the Maiden, the French preserved almost all its virgin timbers forests, including around the metropolis of Paris.

These are real quotes or paraphrases from Joan D'Arc:

Je me attens a Dieu. I place my trust in God.
Je me attens a Dieu, mon createur, de tout; je layme (l'ayme) de tout mon cuer. I place trust in God, my creator, in all things; I love Him with all my heart.

Ceci je sais. This I know.
Je le sçay aussi bien comme vous estes ici. I know this [that the English will be driven out of France] as well as (I know that) you are here" - addressed to Cauchon at the trial

En nom Dieu. In God's name.

As for my words and deeds, I do them on behalf of God.

These are real quotes or paraphrases from Napoleon:

Great events ever depend but upon a single hair.

Great men are never cruel without necessity.

I may find in Spain the Pillars of Hercules, but not the limits of my power.

My motto has always been: A career open to all talents, without distinctions of birth.

What my enemies call a general peace is my destruction.

Activite, Activite, Vitesse.

Bravo! Bravo!

I especially loved that huge "F-R-A-N-C-E" spread on the whole continent.

Beautiful words and images too. That image of Joan from that recent movie added a special touch. Well researched! Well done! Well played!

Zachriel great story! That Chasse Barbare strategy was brilliant!
