I'll be your aloof columnist that shows up late, needing a shave, with a cup of java in one hand and my column in the other. I know I said I'd write something for your last paper, but I'm still doing research. So sign me up. BCLG100 Aug 21, 2002, 05:50 AM would this be a daily/weekely or monthly thing disorganizer Aug 21, 2002, 05:57 AM i would prefer seeing this thread in the citizen forum, as it will interest also the non-rpg citizens (yes, i hate the division of citizen and rpg forum) Octavian X Aug 21, 2002, 09:18 PM I thought we agreed to place heritage threads like a newspaper here in the RPG... Do we have any more volunteers or good ideas? disorganizer Aug 22, 2002, 01:43 AM oct: sorry. missed that part of the rpg-things... it goes to the same part as cities... ;-) you are right. Almightyjosh Aug 22, 2002, 06:45 AM I'm happy to help with news items, kinda like the news summaries I did in the Asphinxian Weekly Times. Cyc Aug 22, 2002, 10:10 AM Welcome aboard, AJ. Octavian X Aug 22, 2002, 11:10 PM We have a few writiers. That's good. Any ideas for a name? Cyc Aug 23, 2002, 02:16 AM The Fanatikal Times The Fanatikal Radical Fanatikal Raves The Rant The Fanatikan There's 5... Octavian X Aug 23, 2002, 02:22 AM Odd names, but ok. I was thinking something more 'normal,' like the Courier. The Weekly Fanatikan? Octavian X Aug 23, 2002, 03:07 AM I was digging through some threads, when I found this, the forerunner of all newspapers. Some of the older citizens may remember this. The newspaper? The Democratic Daily. I thought everybody might like to see this... http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19498 Octavian X Aug 25, 2002, 09:22 AM AHEM... Are there any ideas for new newspaper? Like names? Format? Things we could report on? Almightyjosh Aug 25, 2002, 09:39 AM I think that the reason papers have failed in the past (including my own sortof) is that they all had just one contributor. I think there are two ways we could run it, and have a number of editors. Create a publication with a hieachy. This means we have an editor and a team of reporters. The reporters run around an write news/humour/HI stories, conduct interviews and draw comics (depending on what you like) and then the editor takes them all and puts them in a paper to be released as a .pdf or something. The benefit is a much more cohesive paper, the problem is the editor gets stressed, the journos are slack and the paper doesn't come out much if at all. The other option is to open a 'Newspaper' thread, that only registered reporters can post in. That way the news could be up to the minute and the longer stories could come in whenever. This means people can easily peruse it whenever. The MAJOR advantage is that it does not have to rely on one person all the time. The disadvantage is that is doesn't look as flashy and it is more like TV or radio then a paper. I think some good names would be The Fanatikaner The Fanatikan Daily The Voice of the People The Courier News Or for a TV/radio feel: The Fanatican News Channel Fanatikan Broadcasting Company Channel F Channel 2 (for the 2nd demogame) Zarn Aug 25, 2002, 09:40 AM Newspapers should come with Literacy. Cyc Aug 29, 2002, 03:08 PM Hey Octavian X. I know you won't want to hear this, but ....... I've come up with a different name for your newspaper. We'll call it "The Cavewall". Isn't that where we'll be telling our stories? Danke Aug 29, 2002, 06:52 PM It's better than "The Oral Tradition".... Octavian X Aug 30, 2002, 09:48 PM The Cavewall... We still haven't developed our civ yet... Maybe we can have a vote on a name... |
