Now what we need, is one or two (or more) people to volunteer to start on XML for these. The person who was going to do them has since backed out (NOT YOU remake20, I know you are working on these as you have time!). I will do as many as I can, but unless others volunteer it is going to take long time. Post here or send me a PM if you'd like to help with these.
Now that research is all but done, those of you who have been doing so much of it (here and elsewhere) may want to consider learning basic XML, if you'd like to keep helping getting this MOD built faster (and better). It's really quite simple, if you'd like to some help getting started I could point you to the better tutorials/guides I have found (there are all kinds of great ones in the tutorials (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177) forum).
DVS Dec 19, 2008, 10:11 AM I'll start with my country. :-)
Canada-
Hockey Rink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hockey_rink)
CH-124 Sea King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-124_Sea_King) and/or Joint Task Force 2. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Task_Force_2)
Don't feel you have to post links, just share your ideas. (but any additional information you want to include could also help)
DVS Dec 19, 2008, 10:25 AM I suppose we may as well wait for sheep to finish gathering all the unit info before we do UUs... but buildings we really need to figure out.
Joecoolyo Dec 19, 2008, 01:41 PM I don't live in Israel, but I know a lot about the country (I'm Jewish :D)

Sweet. Great stuff so far, keep 'em coming. :goodjob:
It might be best to stick to buildings for now, but if it is faster to do both at once, or if you already have a good idea in mind, feel free to do both!
I say that because it may be easier to do units once sheep21 has posted his unit info (which from the amount of time he's been putting in, won't be very long!).

DVS Dec 22, 2008, 05:24 PM you know I love the idea sheep21, but sorry, I meant the other buildings thread. This is for unique buildings for individual civs.
my bad.
sheep21 Dec 22, 2008, 05:25 PM damn it dvs lol
your wish is my comand :p
Joecoolyo Dec 22, 2008, 05:27 PM srry, nothing here
sheep21 Dec 22, 2008, 05:35 PM a quick point mind.... no two countries are going to have the same army because of the huge range of different weapons, from different companies all over the world.
UU-wise I think its covered by the Units lists im compiling, just a though.
DVS Dec 22, 2008, 07:25 PM Right you are sheep, and that's why I suggested holding off on UU's until your data is finished! Joecoolyo has been rocking away with the great unique buildings.
Most of the diversity in the armies is going to come from, as you say, the fact that they will all start with the range of weapons they have in reality. From there it will continue thanks to the weapons licenses feature.
The world's five major arms dealers will have to have a wide range of unique units, for which they will have the licenses they can lease. The ability to build most of the units in our game will be linked to having a license from one of them. Hopefully the AI will work with the Arms Trade feature (which is separate from this), so countries have the choice between leasing licenses and flat out buying hardware.
license holders:
USA
RUSSIA
CHINA
NATO (uk)
EU (french + german)
However, on top of that, there are still a number of small nations that could have unique units. Often Special forces etc, like the one I proposed for Canada.
Side note: If we decide to include the Future Combat Systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Combat_Systems) techs and units, whoever reaches it first could become the world's 6th arms dealer. Of course if it is one of the 5 above that reaches this first, they just get additional licenses.

Bahmo Dec 24, 2008, 02:52 AM I think Japan's UB should be a little bit less similar to my idea for China's. Maybe a factory that grants research rather than a trade route, or something more different still. Kazakhstan's UB could be the Cosmodrome, which replaces the laboratory. (I'm not sure how the fossil fuel plant is relevant.) Even more bonus to space production, but maybe at a cost, like less research than a normal lab, or more pollution.
In fact, upon rereading: Seriously, Joe; why are so many of the countries' unique buildings factories? That's kind of dull and uncreative!

Thanks for the ideas, I've done a lot of research on these countries and a lot of their main infrastructure is a sort of factory (though maybe I'll change some, I think I may have put too many factories in too). Whats a Cosmodome though? I just read up on Kazakhstan and saw that they have a lot of fossil fuel operations within the country.

T_KCommanderbly Dec 24, 2008, 03:12 PM not sure if it should be unique or not but a "anti-sattelite missle" and maybe a national wonder/project "anti-nuke missle defense system"?
Joecoolyo Dec 24, 2008, 04:21 PM not sure if it should be unique or not but a "anti-sattelite missle" and maybe a national wonder/project "anti-nuke missle defense system"?
You should probably post this in the buildings (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=284489) thread, unless you want it to be unique to a certain civilization. If you do, what civ? We are always up for ideas.
T_KCommanderbly Dec 24, 2008, 04:57 PM ^ya that would be better, i dont think only one country in the world has axcess to this:)
DVS Dec 24, 2008, 05:06 PM not sure if it should be unique or not but a "anti-sattelite missle" and maybe a national wonder/project "anti-nuke missle defense system"?
I don't know about anti-satellite missiles, hadn't thought about it yet. Space based weapons is a tech in our tree, right now it just leads to SDI. We could add an anti-satellite missile that blows out another nation's advanced satellite project, but this sounds like a lot of code (and the standard AI use problems that follow) for one unit. If someone wants to build this and can get the AI to use it, it would certainly add to the game though. Maybe something to focus on for version 1.5.
As far as missile defense, we have two types. Strategic missile defense, which will require a building in each city. It would be nice to also have a mobile Patriot missile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIM-104_Patriot) unit that increases chances of interception and can shoot down missiles in areas that don't have the building. This is meant to represent existing surface to air missile defense systems. I haven't found the specific building(s) I am going to use for this, so please feel free to search around for an existing one and post your suggestion(s) in the regular buildings thread.
Then later, you'll be able to research and build the standard SDI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Defense_Initiative), which is space based missile defense and will obviously be more effective. This will just require one national project (same as it does in vanilla). No one will start with this.
One of our nuke mods already modifies SDI so it has three levels, so we can do this for either or both of our missile defense systems. We can decide the exact interception rates once we're testing. For it to be accurate, we have to make the chances of interception greatly reduced by larger strikes. The more missiles fired in one turn, the lower the chance of interception. The first missile defense system will have almost no chance of shooting down 2 or 3 of the most advanced missiles, for example.
And you guys are right, these aren't going to be unique to any civ.
DVS Dec 24, 2008, 05:10 PM Sorry for hijacking this thread, please keep posting the sweet building ideas!

Bahmo Dec 25, 2008, 05:10 PM Whats a Cosmodome though? I just read up on Kazakhstan and saw that they have a lot of fossil fuel operations within the country.
Not really an "a" but it could be. The Baikonour Cosmodrome is a huge launch facility in Kazakhstan, that launched many of the USSR's satellites. If we don't make a unique building based on that, we should make it a wonder, somewhat like the space elevator, and just have it start built in Kazakhstan. A fuel plant might not be a bad idea as a unique building, but I don't know about replacing a factory. Maybe we need more building classes.

What if we make the Cosmodrome a National Project, in which every civ is able to build one. But what should it do? Maybe a boost to spaceship production or something like that.
We can make the Fossil Fuel Plant not a factory, but maybe a Coal Plant that gives you a boost in gold. Or we can just simplify it down to a Fuel Plant, being that Kazakhstan has an abundance of coal, oil, natural gas, and has the second largest uranium reserves in the world. ( Info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_policy_of_Kazakhstan) ). We can make their UB give extra percentages of gold with every resource provided. For example:
Fuel Plant- Replaces Coal Plant
- Provides power with Coal, Oil, Uranium (+3 unhealthiness)
- 25% gold (5% added for each resource supplied: coal, oil, uranium)
Bahmo Dec 27, 2008, 10:30 PM Yeah, a coal plant would be a better thing to replace.

Bahmo Dec 28, 2008, 02:33 PM I'm guessing that the Mall has been retired as America's Unique Building because of what I said; in the global economy, malls are everywhere. However, the White House would only occur once--is that what we want? It could give a huge bonus, but still, I don't know if the government is really the essence of America anymore. A better idea might be something that replaces the broadcast tower; maybe increase wealth production in addition to the normal benefits.

Well if we do the White House we can make it give every city a bonus of some sort. Or we can make a Broadcast tower that provides a cash bonus, and similar too the Fuel Plant for Kazakhstan with every resource supplied (hit movies, hit musicals, hit singles) for example:
TV Station- Replaces Broadcast Tower
+50% culture
+25% Gold (5% increase for each resource (Hit Musicals, Hit Singles, Hit Movies))
+5% Production for each resource (Hit Musicals, Hit Singles, Hit Movies)
+1 happiness per 10% culture rate
Can turn 2

+1 happiness from Hit Musicals, Hit Singles, Hit Movies
+1 happiness for Charismatic leaders
What do you think? Good or too overpowered?

Joecoolyo Dec 28, 2008, 03:36 PM 50% culture? wouldnt they squish canada via cultural boarders?
The Broadcast Tower originally came with the 50% Culture, we could bring it down to, say 30% because of all the other bonuses UB is getting.
sheep21 Dec 30, 2008, 01:31 PM no problem, leave it at 50% I was totally in the wrong in this case.
Must have been a head malfunction on my part!

Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_American_School_of_Medicine_(Cuba)) or Latin American School of Medicine

+3 :culture:

This is actually Cuba based but since it is founded for students from all over the Americas it seems very suitable for an Alliance civ. And I think it has more flavour than a socialist courthouse...

Joecoolyo Jan 06, 2009, 03:58 PM Can I get a list on what still needs to be completed (For my XML work on the UBs) and what each building does.
The compiled list of buildings is on post 42 (little farther up the page), though I don't know which ones we are doing or not (or which ones have been put in already).
DVS Jan 06, 2009, 04:01 PM Do you have the latest version of the MOD? As far as I know, none of the unique buildings that have been posted in this thread have been added. NikNaks has added several others, but none of the ones listed here have been created yet.
Adding these is probably our number one todo right now. Joecoolyo has done amazing work in this thread, others like ianinsane have also contributed great ideas. We need to get every one of these in our mod. If you'd like to start working on this, that would be perfect. Send me a PM if you need any help with the SVN or anything else.

DVS Jan 06, 2009, 05:03 PM NikNaks and I were talking about that over IM.
Remake20, let's discuss that idea in the buildings thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=7622514#post7622514), to keep this thread strictly to unique buildings and units.

India
CSS Coal Plant - Replaces Coal Plant

It seems appropriate that India, one of the developing and fastest growing economies should benefit from emission cutting technologies don't you think?
If everyone agrees with this idea I'll get to work on the icon for it and the civiliopedia entry. :)

Weren't you planning this to make this a regular building? You posted the CSS Coal Plant in the other thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=7621462&postcount=51) as a regular building idea. We can make the Indian Unique Building based off of the regular CSS Coal Plant, for example it can give 25% bonus to production instead of the regular 5%.

remake20 Jan 08, 2009, 07:53 AM I don't think the minor civs need to have a UU or UB or at least not until v2.
MasterOfDomain Jan 08, 2009, 11:33 AM We can make the Indian Unique Building based off of the regular CSS Coal Plant, for example it can give 25% bonus to production instead of the regular 5%.
I was planning to make the CSS Powerplant a regular building, but apparently we already had enough or something, so I figured rather than waste the idea we should implement it in this way. I may do an icon for it, since it should be in demand for some purpose. :)

sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 06:12 PM what countries still need UU or UB?
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 06:14 PM The buildings are close enough to being done. If you'd like to start on something, do unique units.
Look at this post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=7593159&postcount=42) to see which countries already have unique units. Most don't.
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 06:16 PM One more thing, don't do anything for; USA, China, Russia, NATO, EU. Just focus on all the other nations.
Those five are going to have numerous unique units, which are basically all already listed in the unit art thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=305312).

sheep21 Jan 08, 2009, 07:46 PM Sandman old boy, fantastic to have you on the team, welcome aboard!
Im just in the process of sorting the final lists for units out and have completed all naval units so no need to worry about them.
If you do want to do something Units based could you research artillery pieces and write it down here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=275874&page=4) :)
If you follow this layout it will alos help with commonality over all the information, see example below:
Artillery Pieces
- Unit name (Countries manufactured in)
--Operators
--- Number in service with a country Name of said country
--- Number in Service with a country Name of Said Country
Notes - Whether still in production or not
Cheers
P.S dont worry about it too much, we still need plenty of Unique Units. If you can just do that for the time being that would be cool, something I myself have no time to do!
By the way, really like the egypt idea, internal security troops are something I overlooked entirely :p
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 07:59 PM sandman730 doesn't have the time for that right now, he is going to stick to UU's I think.
But, hopefully someone will take up the project you laid out Sheep21. If not, as you mentioned to me, we may have to wait until V 2.0 to include unique artillery units.

P.S dont worry about it too much, we still need plenty of Unique Units. If you can just do that for the time being that would be cool, something I myself have no time to do!
By the way, really like the egypt idea, internal security troops are something I overlooked entirely :p
I'll try to do as much as I can, but I don't have much time right now

sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 08:41 PM What civs do we need UUs for?
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 08:53 PM All I can say is, damn bro. Wasn't expecting all that today!
You must be almost done here. :-)
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 08:56 PM What civs do we need UUs for?
We still need them for every civ except the ones you have already done, plus:
USA
Russia
China
NATO
EU
Philippines
Canada
Palestine
Failed States.
The final civ list is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=301906).
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 08:57 PM On a side note, I think that the Palestinian Infantry should be changed to Hamas Militant.
sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 09:00 PM On a side note, I think that the Palestinian Infantry should be changed to Hamas Militant.
Hamas is a terrorist organization.
Joecoolyo Jan 08, 2009, 09:01 PM DVS: Yah, I had some free time today that I wanted to put towards good use, just six more... then I can move on to units!
Sandman: Here's a nice list-
Edit: DVS you beat me again! lol
DVS: I was looking for a name, but I don't think Hamas are really that associated with Palestine, actually, in 2007, the Hamas took control over Gaza from the Palestinians. Maybe a more suitable name would be a PA Solider? (Palestinian Authority, I think that's what their still called)
Edit: Sandman! You beat me to it! (I really need to improve my typing speed lol)
sheep21 Jan 08, 2009, 09:05 PM Palestinian Authority Police maybe, they are legitemate (sp)
EDIT:
UU for NATO eh? Could it pleaseeeee be the Royal Marine Commandoes?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Marine_Commando
like the well trained British Army but smaller, elite and very scary!
sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 09:08 PM I think that either of PA Soldier of Palestinian Authority Police would be acceptable.
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 09:09 PM FYI: We're trying to stay away from any and all political debates here. We just want to get this mod done. A lot of people would call Hamas a legitimate resistance movement to an illegal occupation, and now a political party that is the legitimately elected government of the Palestinian territories (that part is hard to debate).
For the purposes of keeping this mod on track, we'll call them neither and just include them because they exist.
We're just trying to represent what units are fighting where. Clearly the main Palestinian forces are Hamas fighters, which is why I say they should be that civ's UU.
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 09:11 PM But, when do you hear about forces other than Hamas fighting? Other than smaller, less organized terrorists firing useless home made rockets?
sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 09:14 PM Then why don't we make them both a terrorist organization controlled by Palestine?
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 09:15 PM lol @ joecoolyo. Maybe you need Mavis Beacon! Actually it probably has more to do with the fact that I look for updates here very often whenever I'm online.
DVS: I was looking for a name, but I don't think Hamas are really that associated with Palestine, actually, in 2007, the Hamas took control over Gaza from the Palestinians. Maybe a more suitable name would be a PA Solider? (Palestinian Authority, I think that's what their still called)
This is one of the political arguments I didn't want us to get into, unfortunately I seem to have started it.
Hamas was actually elected by Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank the last time they had elections. BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4650788.stm). They didn't take over power, they were voted in. It's the other guys (Abbas) who took over power without an election.
Plus, as I mentioned, they are the fighters in Palestine. I don't support these guys by any stretch, but personally I think it's crazy to leave them out.
sheep21 Jan 08, 2009, 09:15 PM gentlemen, please! You cannot fight in here this is the war room! :D
May I suggest a compromise?
Fatah and Hmas aswell as a myriad other groups all have there own militant groups in the Palestinian Territories. May I suggest a Unit named Palestinian Militant to reflect this fact, that way we acknowledge all groups.
As it is DVS I can see why you would want it as Hamas.
Joecoolyo Jan 08, 2009, 09:16 PM Edit: Your right DVS, I think i need mavis beacon, when typing i missed like four replies...
sheep21: Well, by the article, it said it was a very fast unit, and could be deployed anywhere, so I was thinking along the lines of:
Royal Marine Commando- Replaces Marine
+2 strength from regular Marine
+50% attack vs. Machine Gun
+50% attack vs. Artillery
Starts with Amphibious promotion, Woodsman II, Guerrilla II, possibly Mobility (maybe that would make them, a little too fast)
sheep21 Jan 08, 2009, 09:19 PM swap out +50% for plus +25% or +50% against armour and we got a deal :P AFAIK there are no purely machine gunner units in the mod

Yah, lets not get very specific with Hamas n'stuff and just name it after the civ! Easy, simple, and who knows? In a couple weeks, the Hamas might not even exist... you never know

+25% might be for the best, I've already made it an insanely fast unit... don't want to overpower it

Hope my nitpicking doesn't turn you off helping out! I hope you'll keep up the good work. :-)

once again, is a guerrilla a unit? I think from now on you should probably put a link to the unit its replacing... just for convince
DVS Jan 08, 2009, 09:56 PM so, that one would probably replace infantry.
It's just a matter of having a list of the basic units that are in the game, and picking one to replace. Unfortunately I have to leave right away, or I would make the list for you now. If no one does it by tomorrow, I will make you such a list.

Isn't their one at the beginning of the Units thread? If not, check out this link (http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/units). Its very useful for thinking of UU ideas. Unfortunately, like DVS, i have to go too, (Daily Show, Colbert block is on!) But I'll be back... tomorrow probably :)
sandman730 Jan 08, 2009, 10:13 PM I edited the Kaibil and the UU list
ianinsane Jan 09, 2009, 12:48 PM I think that either of PA Soldier of Palestinian Authority Police would be acceptable.
Since Palestine is the only civ we have in our mod that in reality does not have a regular army I suggest we should represent that by using PA Police as UU for Palestine. However, I can see the point in adding a Palestine Militant unit. Can't we have Palestine having two UUs? The facts (Palestine split into two...) would legitimate that.

Sorry dude, not to down your idea, but we have already finished the UB's for all the Civs. But we can still use your help with the UU's (don't want to make Sandman do all of the work :D )
sheep21 Jan 11, 2009, 06:47 AM Great work! Afew points though:
- we already got Royal Marine Commandos as the NATO\UK UU
- also got the Black Sea Fleet down as a UU for Ukraine, the Black Sea Fleet is a formation of the Russian Federations Navy and made up of a collection of Naval Vessels of various sorts.
- perhaps Battlegroup of the European Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_Battlegroups) would make more sense, these 15 Groups are the begining of a nasceant EU Army after all.
Apart from that, all looks good :)

I agree but on one point. As I said Palestine is the only one of our civ that does not have a regular army in reality. So they can't have any "infantry". I'd like to repeat my wish for 2 palestinian UUs:
- Legal: Palestinian Police (weaker than infantry, but cheaper)
- Illegal: Palestinian Extremist (stats maybe like your Palestinian Infantry, but cheaper)
And if we won't have 2 UUs for Palestine I'd suggest to choose one of the two above. In that case I'd vote for Police and let the illegal part be simulated by increased spawning of barbarian units.
(maybe make Gaza a failed state...that way we could have the West Bank controlled by our Palestine civ - having only Police - and Gaza controlled by Failed States/Barbarians and having Extremist/Terrorist units that would attack both Israeli and Fatah/Palestine units. but maybe deciding on this would mean a political discussion... :( )

The only problem I have is (unless they enlarge the map) there actually be no room for Gaza (it will end up being only 1 tile away from the capitol on the regular GEM map). Other than that, I think its best to to stay with one UU, and make the "extremists" terrorist units that we have been discussing lately.
Joecoolyo Jan 11, 2009, 11:54 AM DVS, you might want to update the UB list on the first post, since I just went through it and fixed a couple of mistakes (for example: there were 2 UB's for U.S., repeated UB's, the Philippines didn't have any info, etc.)

Wouldn't that be better suited as a Ukrainian unit, since its manufactured in Ukraine. Though I can see why you would put it as Myanmar (they ordered a 1000 of them).

Great stuff! But maybe you can make it a little more expensive (seeing how powerful this unit is (don't want Australia spamming this unit, we'd all be dead :D )) say around... 250 to 300... idk, you choose.

DVS Jan 13, 2009, 05:29 PM Good idea, sounds more like what they have.
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 02:50 PM sheep21 and I were discussing on yahoo...
since a lot of these countries don't produce their own military hardware, for a lot of the civs that we still need UU ideas for, we should focus as much as possible on local variations to the infantry unit. Every country can drug up some type of infantry, let's try to show what kind. For example, a smaller African civ could have some sort of technicals (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6131960&postcount=19). Actually that specific example may be more of a (weaker) replacement for a tank, but I hope you get what I'm saying.
The exceptions being countries like Israel with their Merkeva, and North Korea with their nukes. Hope you guys agree.
Joecoolyo Jan 14, 2009, 04:51 PM sheep21 and I were discussing on yahoo...
since a lot of these countries don't produce their own military hardware, for a lot of the civs that we still need UU ideas for, we should focus as much as possible on local variations to the infantry unit.

Yah, that makes sense, Sandman was telling me in school today that he couldn't find UU's for a bunch of the smaller Civs. I'd say lets give UU's to the civs that can actually produce them (i.e. Israel is able to produce the Merkava, North Korea is able to produce Nukes, NATO can produce the Royal Marine Commandoes, etc.) and let the smaller civs, as you have said above, have cheaper weaker infantry, or any other units (ones that seem the country would be able to produce (i.e. Ethiopia isn't going to be able to scrap together a Stealth Bomber)).
But then there is a problem with that, I know that we are trying to make this mod a realistic as possible, but the problem with giving small civs weak UU's because of there current situation might not work. For example, What if I wanted to make Ethiopia a World Super Power? I won't be able to do that if all if my UU is weak infantry. IF we are going to this, I'd say we put a secondary, regular UU that can be unlocked once a certain amount of, modernization, has taken place. If that is even possible... it would make it so modern Ethiopia isn't stuck with the same UU as 4th world Ethiopia.
sheep21 Jan 14, 2009, 04:54 PM you would have to play tactically... as a real ethiopian leader would if they wanted to advance there cause.
African armies are poorly trained, poorly led, poorly equipped and poorly disciplined. You would have to rely on what you could buy from outside weapons suppliers.
I do like the idea of reaching a certain point and upgrading to say "disciplined African Infantry" or some such.

If I can't find any UU for a certain civ, then I will try and make up an infantry unit for it. If someone else can find a UU for that country or I stumble across one, then I will replace it. Good idea.
sheep21 Jan 14, 2009, 04:59 PM generally every country on earth will have infantry and some sort of prestigious regiment of corps.
I.E The Corps of Royal Marines for the UK
USMarine Corps for the USA
and various "presidential", "revolutionarly" divisions\regiments in Africa\Caribean\Sth America etc. Try the Wiki for the countries your having difficulty with :)

Yes, currently African armies are pretty poorly put together, but once again, Maybe I want to make the African Union a World Super Power? (with all those resources, who wouldn't ;) ). I think the best way, is as you stated above, is to start out with poorly trained infantry units (or other variations), and then once they become modernized (maybe researched a certain tech?) they unlock their full UU.
sandman730 Jan 14, 2009, 05:05 PM Indonesia- Pindad Panser (land transport)

They will have to save/spend money and buy weapons licenses (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=303812), then they will be able to produce more modern units. ;)
Don't forget, that feature is going to be in version v 1.0.
Once we have the scenario all balanced, it should take very smart play to turn any small nation into a super power. But it will be possible. :D
sandman730 Jan 14, 2009, 07:31 PM Do we have a UU for Russia?
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 07:34 PM Russia should have been on the original list of units we don't need UUs for. They are one of the "Arms Dealer" nations, so they will have dozens of UUs. So don't worry about them.

Do we have a list of UUs for them yet?
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 07:39 PM Yes, don't worry about them. I thought there was a list posted in this thread of countries that we DON'T need? Russia is one.
sandman730 Jan 14, 2009, 07:41 PM Yes (in short), don't worry about them. I thought there was a list posted in this thread of countries that we DON'T need? Russia is one.
Okay, I will continue to try and find units for the remaining civs.
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 07:43 PM These are the ones NOT to make UU ideas for:
USA
Russia
China
NATO
EU
Philippines
Canada
Palestine
Israel
Failed States
We need UU ideas for every OTHER civ, less the ones you have already come up with . :-)
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 07:44 PM Okay, I will continue to try and find units for the remaining civs.
cool, thanks
sandman730 Jan 14, 2009, 07:45 PM I couldn't find any UUs for the following civs:
Venezuela
Argentina
Chile
Kazakhstan
Georgia
Belarus
Algeria
Ethiopia
Sudan
Angola
Iran
Syria
Saudi Arabia
Permanent Neutrality
Independent African States
African Union
Minor Nations
South American Socialist Allies
I will continue to look for these, but if you can come up with any, please contribute.
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 07:57 PM Ok, hopefully a few people will lend a hand.
What I would do for these, for what it's worth... Take Iran for example; google "military of Iran wiki". Read through the first paragraph from the wiki article, it will usually give some idea of what kind of Infantry type of troops they have. Pick either a special forces type or one they have a lot of.
Keeping Iran as the example, I'd take a look at the link that says "Revolutionary Guards." That would make a good replacement for an infantry.
So:
Iran-
Revolutionary Guards (replaces infantry)
+15% city defense

Okay, so far I was typing in "Military of ______" into wikipedia. I will add your Iran unit to my big list.
DVS Jan 14, 2009, 08:10 PM that should get you to the same page. I just use google to search through wikipedia because it corrects my horrible spelling for me.
ianinsane Jan 15, 2009, 12:48 PM I just found a very informative site with extensive information about the military of many countries:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/index.html
sheep21 Jan 15, 2009, 01:03 PM Iran can have Iranian Revolutionary Guards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_the_Guardians_of_the_Islamic_Revolution) as there UU unit as an aditional Infantry unit.
Same as NATO will jabe Royal Marines alongside its regular Infantry.
ianinsane Jan 15, 2009, 01:05 PM How about this UU for Permanent Neutrality
Militia (like the Swiss army)

-25% unit cost

MasterOfDomain Jan 15, 2009, 01:14 PM Do the Unique Units have to be military? Can they not have workers with special abilities? After all (and I'm thinking of the African Nations specifically), if they (and the player) want to make them a superpower, it will require advanced economies more than a single unit.
DVS Jan 15, 2009, 01:22 PM Not totally sure what you mean. I don't think we should put in an easy path for any African nation to become a superpower. To achieve this should be difficult and require some serious strategy (and luck).
Personally I think if any country has an improved worker, it should be China or India.
MasterOfDomain Jan 15, 2009, 02:28 PM Not totally sure what you mean. I don't think we should put in an easy path for any African nation to become a superpower.
I'm not saying we should make an easy path, I fully appreciate African Nations are far behind. With a stable government however, they could all make use of vast resources and have the potential to become powerful. If we're struggling to think up UU that have military uses, why don't we give them something else?
Joecoolyo Jan 15, 2009, 03:45 PM Personally I think if any country has an improved worker, it should be China or India.
I think we can just give them massive populations ( so they can work an insane amount of tiles)... anyways, aren't both those arms dealer civs?
DVS Jan 15, 2009, 03:53 PM I think we can just give them massive populations ( so they can work an insane amount of tiles)... anyways, aren't both those arms dealer civs?
yes they are, but they could have other UUs as well, it's up to us to decide what we want.

I'm fine with that, as long as it is something the country has in real life.
African countries will have the potential to make use of their vast resources... but they will have to rid themselves of vassalage and foreign corporations before they get full control of them. :)
added: I don't think there is any problem coming up with military UUs. All we need are different variations of infantry to give the game some flavour.

I think we could do that. In the normal game, a fast worker is India's UU.

I can't do research myself unfortunately, if we ever want to get this mod actually built. Hopefully you guys will be able to come up with these in time to get them in to version 1.0.

MasterOfDomain Jan 22, 2009, 03:57 PM That's a lot of infantry units. I love the variety and your work sandman730, but I can't help but feel a few mechanised units wouldn't go amiss somehow..

A lot of the countries that we included in the mod have a small military or get all of their units from other countries so I made a unique infantry unit for all of the civs that I couldn't find any UU unit for. If you can find any UUs for the countries that have a unique infantry unit, then I will change it.
MasterOfDomain Jan 22, 2009, 04:22 PM Fair enough, I can see your reasoning, and perhaps it's something best left till later versions.
On another note, I've noticed that the EU have a peacekeeping force. Wouldn't the Eurofighter Typhoon be a better choice? :/

sure. I researched it and came up with these stats:
Eurofighter Typhoon (replaces jet fighter)
strength: 26
movement: 12
cost: 200
Can intercept aircraft (100% chance)
Can destroy tile improvements and bomb city defenses (-16%/turn)
DVS Jan 22, 2009, 05:18 PM Amazing work sandman730! Thanks a lot. :D
DVS Jan 22, 2009, 05:19 PM Don't worry about the EU!
Remember, they are one of our arms dealers. The Eurofighter Typhoon is one of the many units they will have for themselves, and to license to other countries.
DVS Jan 22, 2009, 05:30 PM I've updated the first post with your list.

Joecoolyo Jan 23, 2009, 08:41 PM My internet just came back on (was broken for 2 days) and the first thing I do is come to this forum to see that sandman has finished all the UU's! Dang sandman, goodjob! I was looking forward to doing some of those but you seemed to nab 'em all in the week I wasn't here. Anyways, Nice Job Dude!

DVS Jan 24, 2009, 03:17 PM @sandman730
Ok let's try this again. :D
This should work, here are the files you need.
DVS Jan 24, 2009, 11:08 PM @Joecoolyo- I hope this helps. You just have to edit two files. Please download the zip files attached to this post, it contains the two files from our mod that you have to use.
Adding a unique building:
Download and install notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) (or jedit if you use a Mac)
Open the following file:
assets/XML/Buildings/Civ4buildingsInfos.xml
this will be referred to as the buildinginfos file.
Search for the building your unique building will replace. You want to find it inside <type> tags. So if your unique building replaces the library, you want to find this:
<Type>BUILDING_LIBRARY</Type>
This is the entry you want to copy, which you will then modify to create your building. Copy all of the data between the <BuildingInfo> and </BuildingInfo> tags.
Go to the bottom of the file, and paste it in right above the </BuildingInfos> tag.
It is very important to copy everything perfectly.
The top few lines of your new entry will look like this:
<BuildingInfo>
<BuildingClass>BUILDINGCLASS_LIBRARY</BuildingClass>
<Type>BUILDING_LIBRARY</Type>
<SpecialBuildingType>NONE</SpecialBuildingType>
<Description>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_LIBRARY</Description>
<Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_LIBRARY_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
<Strategy>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_LIBRARY_STRATEGY</Strategy>
<Advisor>ADVISOR_SCIENCE</Advisor>
<ArtDefineTag>ART_DEF_BUILDING_LIBRARY</ArtDefineTag>
Change this to something like this:
<BuildingInfo>
<BuildingClass>BUILDINGCLASS_LIBRARY</BuildingClass>
<Type>BUILDING_YOURUB</Type>
<SpecialBuildingType>NONE</SpecialBuildingType>
<Description>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB</Description>
<Civilopedia>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB_PEDIA</Civilopedia>
<Strategy>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB_STRATEGY</Strategy>
<Advisor>ADVISOR_SCIENCE</Advisor>
<ArtDefineTag>ART_DEF_BUILDING_LIBRARY</ArtDefineTag>
The instances of LIBRARY that are in blue, you leave alone. Do not edit the BUILDINGCLASS tag, or the ArtDefineTag for now!
Where you see the red, you put in the name you give your building. Not the name as displayed in the game, so all caps and no spaces. for example, NEWLIBRARY.
Once you have done this, you have created a second building, with the same proprieties as a library.
Now you want to make the improvements to the building. That is what the rest of the tags are for. I won't try to explain them all here, the best place to go to find what you need to know about these is here (http://civ4.wikidot.com/xml:civ4buildinginfos).
If you want, for the first buildings you try, you can tell me the improvements you want to make, and then I can tell you what tags you have to change.
After you get that done, all you have to do is define the text tags. That is where the second file you have to edit comes in. Open the file:
assets/XML/Text/World2009_Buildings_CIV4GameText.xml
Scroll to the bottom. Right above the </Civ4GameText>, paste in this:
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB</Tag>
<English>In game building name</English>
</TEXT>
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB_PEDIA</Tag>
<English>civilopedia entry</English>
</TEXT>
<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_BUILDING_YOURUB_STRATEGY</Tag>
<English>Unique BUilding strategy.</English>
</TEXT>
Change all the red text to what you have named your building. The first green text is what you want your building to be called in the game. The second is the civilopedia entry. The third is strategy, which generally describes the extra bonuses the building gets. You don't have to do all the civilopedia entries right away, you can leave them just saying "civilopedia entry", but all these tags have to be in the file.
I hope that makes sense.
Joecoolyo Jan 25, 2009, 12:21 AM Here's my attempt at adding a UB via XML. I added the Mexican UB, the Maquiladora, which is a factory with +3 trade routes given to the city. Here are the attached file with the edited stuff. Hopefully it works DVS :D
DVS Jan 25, 2009, 01:10 AM Wow, great work buddy.
One tiny misstep, other than that, perfect!
In the buildinginfos file, you put your new entry beneath the </BuildingInfos>, not above it. Note the difference between </BuildingInfo> and </BuildingInfos>.
There is only one </BuildingInfos> tag in the file, and it should always be on the second last line.
After I switched that around, everything worked perfectly. Amazing for a first attempt.
DVS Jan 25, 2009, 01:20 AM Joecoolyo and sandman730, I'm sure the whole team is glad to have you guys helping with XML now, in addition to the research you have already done here! Huge contributions.
Most areas are covered now, we are well on our way.
