I got Bioshock ($5), Civ IV Complete ($25), Civ III Complete ($4), and Painkiller Gold ($8). Deciding if I should get Pirates! for $8.

For some reason, you can't add Rome Total War Gold to your cart, but a Steam forum mod says they're looking into it...

Saw it. Looking to pick-up some of the 99cent specials. Bioshock is tempting, but I think I might go for the WW2 Eastern front mod of HL2.

Pirates for $8 is a steal, even if you only play a few games of it.

The only Eastern Front game I know of that is on there is Red Orchestra, which is NOT a VALVe or source-engine game. Although an excellent choice and much better than Bioshock.

I picked up CS:S for the first time. I've heard it's good, and at half off, I bit. :D Any other good recommendations? I already have Bioshock and strangely I'm the only person I know who didn't really like the game. I never got into it...never even finished it actually.

Lol CS:S, it's mediocre at best.

The VALVe Complete pack is highly recommended, if you have some of the gmaes in it already then you can gift the extra copies to friends.

Mount&Blade is 50% off, I extremely recommend it (you will NOT regret it, I promise).

I already own Mount&Blade, otherwise I'd buy it for an easy $15. That game has the best melee combat ever.

Also, if you have a powerful PC, you can have epic battles with literally hundreds of soldiers on the field. Check out these YouTube videos for some crazy M&B combat:

Well I don't have any friends around here who have VALVE or even play computer games. Video games on PS3 and such yeah. :p I guess I'm a "semi-casual" gamers lol. And I already have TF2 and Portal, and now CS:S...HL2...never tried it...ah well.

And I've heard alot about M&B....hmm Im not a big RPG player though, the only one I've really played is Fallout 3. :scan: Is it an RPG type game that requires tons of time? hmm it is only $15 though...

Maniacal
Dec 27, 2008, 08:49 PM
You can gift them to anyone on your steam friend's list as well.

Mount&Blade does not need tonnes of time to play, a single game/character can go on for as long as you want really, but you don't need to put in like 5 hour sessions every day, just an hour or two. It is also very easy to 'cheat' or create a character without having to start from level 1 every time if you are impatient (although not nearly as rewarding).

I'd definitely pick up the Orange box at $27 this week, but I already did. With HL2 you get several cool team-based shooters, plus Team Fortress 2.

I did buy most of the 99cent specials plus Red Orchestra.

Can't wait until Monday. Going to go the EB and use about $150 worth of gift cards, then come back and buy some really cheap games off Steam. :D

So far I have BioShock and Silent Hunter III on my Steam shortlist. Any other recommendations?

Mount&Blade

Red Orchestra
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (Clear Sky as well since it's fairly cheap right now).

I bought STALKER on sale for $5 last weekend, played it a bit and I really liked it the little I played, also bought Bioshock the other day but my computer can't play it, but $5 is still a good deal even if I can't play it yet.

Hey, Silent Hunter III on Steam wouldn't have starforce on it right? I wanted to try it but never bothered since I didn't want Starforce wrecking my computer, and my computer's too old to play the new one besides I like Atlantic theatre better.

Silent Hunter III on my Steam shortlist. Any other recommendations?

Have you played it before? I didn't care for it. It is a lot of waiting for your submarine to sail (float? swim? sputter?) through the ocean.

Company of Heroes Gold is a good buy right now.

I bought Dawn of War Everything on impulse but regret it. It's just not near the same quality as COH goes for RTS.

id Everything for $35 is really tempting but I've bought so much of it over the years already (and hence played it to death and threw out the CDs)

GoodGame
Dec 29, 2008, 09:55 AM
Yeah, DoW was great when it came out, but mostly lingered because of the fan boyz. If you're not into that universe, it doesn't compare to COH. It hardly has any terrain effects and only a little strategy until the later campaign modes.

I enjoyed firing up Doom2 (99cents) and comparing it to Half-Life: Opposing Forces (99c ents). If only Steam had Duke Nukem 3D also.

If you like Breakout/Akranoid, I recommend checking out Reaxxion (99cents). It is a neat reinterpretation.

I've played through the demo today and it seemed a little short if its a sixth of the game although I guess the later sections are trickier and probably longer. I think I'll wait until the price drops below £10. Its a shame that there doesn't seem to be a level editor for it.

I have X3, it's a good game, dynamic universe/economy, it's pretty withotu being system demanding. My friend is obsessed with the series now (I havn't yet gotton around to properly learning how to play it, I have too many games :p).

I'm downloading Reunion right now. I'll tell you if I like it. Most reviews describe it as Elite (cheezy flight sim) + economic sim.

I figure if I like it, I'll pick up Terran Conflict later in box form. It's like 11 gigs installed so I figure it's a bit big to download.

I got Audiosurf when it was $3 a few months ago. That'd be about what it's worth. The mainly cool feature is you can play a rare song and instantly be the top scorer. Cool idea, but it definitely needs some game-play revamping.

Ok guys, looking for opinions on The Witcher EE vs Mount&Blade vs Oblivion. Suggestions? The Witcher EE is $30, M&B is $15 and Oblivion GoTY Edition is $20 (plus tax since it would be in-store purchase) :)

Maniacal
Dec 29, 2008, 04:27 PM
Mount&Blade definately. Witcher Enhanced is good too. Oblivion is a large download, and while good not as good as the other two (M&B has great gameplay, Witcher has a great Story, Oblivion lacks in both those departments.)

GoodGame
Dec 29, 2008, 07:33 PM
I checked out Reunion for about 90 minutes. It is pretty sexy in the graphics department, if you find astronomy and textured spaceships to be sexy. Went through the first mission with some dogfighting. The controls are kind of wonky with a mouse and keyboard, especially for some rapid combat movements. Tie Fighter, it is not. The universe has a bit of personality, so I was giving it some time to get into the economics, when after exiting a docking station (the only savegame points) I got a CTD crash. ugh. IDK, I guess I'll keep playing and it's worth $10. Not planning on running out to get the Terran Conflict though.

FYI: Rome Total War Complete (original game + both expansions) has returned to the Steam store for $8.99

Like with the Unreal games, Valve didn't have enough keys on hand to meet demand :O

IMHO, this is the best deal on Steam right now.

Since I already had RTW and its expansions, I elected to get M2TW and Kingdoms, largely in preparation for the release of EB II (:p); so far, I'm pretty satisfied, especially since I've figured out how to use Stainless Steel. Good stuff all around.

Yeah X3 is mostly focused on trading and economy, (you end up running a trade empire by remote control mostly), but I've never gotton very far myself just due to too many games. There is a stickied thread with guides on the official forums that is quite helpful.

Cool, I got Fleet Command for 10$, and with two other sub games (688i hunter and sub command). I'd been wanting to play that again for ages. The shame is that I still have the CD right there in front of me.

I've decided the best money I spent on Steam this week was:

Zen of Sudoku ($5), and Gumboy Crazy Adventures (like $2.50 in the $10 best of the indies pack). Honorable mention to Red Orchestra ($8) since it has the coolest looking urban maps, and crazy realism.

Still lots of cool late gen games that I already own, like Far Cry 1, Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six part III, Half-life 2 etc...

VALVe often uses EA as a publisher for the retail physical copies of it's games. STEAM however means 100% of the profit goes to VALVe.

In May 2008, Valve estimated that Steam sales would surpass retail sales within 2-3 months. That means half or more sales are made through Steam. Even before reaching 50%, Steam sales (by virtue of bypassing retailers) probably accounted for half or more of Valve's total revenue.

It's a simulation, not an arcade game. 90% of the time a U-boat spent was surfaced, and patrolling. However, find a nice convoy, approach stealthily, and use magnetic pistols to break a tanker's back...nothing else like in in the world!
