View Full Version : The Return of Regicide?
ninerzfan_22 Jan 01, 2009, 02:12 AM One of the best features of the civ 3 conquests expansion pack was the regicide and mass regicide game option. This added a fun element of strategy to the game as the player tried to find good locations for their monarchs to hide and be well-protected. Considering that Europe was the age of kings, I think that Rhyes of Europe would be a perfect opportunity to bring it back, at least as an option. IMHO the monarch should no longer be practically defenseless, but should be able to keep a bodyguard of three units. This way monarchs would be better protected, and in mass regicide, they could be used somewhat as warlords to attack other nations. The troops assigned to the kings bodyguard should get some kind of bonus, such as free promotions or increased strength for example. This would fit the time period perfectly and bring back the fun of regicide. Would this work? Is it already being implemented? Is it a good idea? Would it be stupid? Please give me feedback on this idea.
Hitti-Litti Jan 01, 2009, 06:46 AM I haven't played C3C, so could you please give me more information about regicide option?
Lone Wolf Jan 01, 2009, 06:49 AM A civ had a King (or in case, of mass recigide, multiple Kings) unit. If all the King units of a civ were killed, all units and cities of the civ in question were destroyed too.
Hitti-Litti Jan 01, 2009, 06:56 AM Hmm, it sounds like it could fit in RFC quite well! That could cause even more collapses, at least if AI knows how to use this feature.
Lone Wolf Jan 01, 2009, 06:58 AM I wouldn't like it at all...
ninerzfan_22 Jan 01, 2009, 12:15 PM Well I think it could be possible as an option just like it was in the conquests exp. I think it would need to be improved. Such as my previous suggestion about being to attach troops or maybe giving the city in which the king is stationed some kind of bonus such as less maintenance or more production. Espionage, something that is not very important in most civ games, would become much more important since people would use spies to find out the locations of the kings. Also, assasins should be able to assassinate the king, but not if he has a bodyguard with him. In that case, if it is successful, one of the body guards would be assassinated and not the king. A possible strategy would be to attach a spy or assassin to the king's body guard, making it much more difficult to assassinate either the king or other members of his bodyguard. I realize that this could be difficult to implement so I am open to your ideas, tips, comments, and flames.
ninerzfan_22 Jan 01, 2009, 12:17 PM Also, I am not sure if all the cities should be destroyed neccesarily like in conquests, maybe they should just become independent when all the kings are killed.
Lone Wolf Jan 02, 2009, 12:31 PM That makes Civilization slightly "chess-like", which makes little sense.
thadian Jan 15, 2009, 01:33 AM i would like a regicide option in standard, and in MP but not for RFC.
