For MOD makers from noob Gringo...
A humble suggestion...
Just hit me that it's easier to create a folder nameed "Sounds" in the Unit page, and put all sound files there, (new and existing unit sounds).
So that if you decide to use an existing unit sound file on a newly created unit, and you use that units' "path" to use that sound in the .INI File, you just use the "sound" folder as a universal path to all sounds.
This is also handy I guess, if you decide to "rename" some of the existing units down the road, so you don't have to go back and rename the paths on each unit .INI File.
Hope that works for ya as an easier way to assign Sound files to Units.

OK.. say for example:
-You create (Add, not Replace) a unit named "Big Destroyer", you have to assign the sounds for each action .FLC (Run, Attack, Death, etc..)
Note: this is assuming you have created the new "Sounds" folder in your Units page of Civ3/Art, and have copied all sound waves to that new folder.
-You decide to go with the "Destroyer" sounds that come with the game.
-So in the sounds section of the "Big Destroyer" .INI file, you type:
Death for Example:
DEATH= ..\Destroyer \DestroyerDeath.wav
This will tell the game to look in the "Destroyer" folder for the DestroyerDeath.wav file, and use it on your new "Big Destroyer" death sound.
It is also convenient, if you don't type the path, then you have to mannualy go find the "Destroyer" folder, find the DestroyerDeath.Wav, copy it, go back to your "Big Destroyer" folder, and paste the file..All that just to avoid having to type: (..\Destroyer\), not wirth it IMO.
Now, latter on you decide to rename "Destroyer" for some reason to "Small Destroyer", (Big Destroyer is using the Destroyer sound).
-The path you typed in the "Big Destroyer" INI file, will no longer work, with the Destroyer renamed to Small Destroyer becuse the path command you gave "Big Destroyer" remains:
DEATH= ..\Destroyer \DestroyerDeath.wav
-Then you have no sound for "Big Destroyer", because the game will be looking for the folder "Destroyer", and it doesn't exist
anymore (because you renamed it to Small Destroyer).
-So you'd have to go to the "Big Destroyer" folder go to the INI file and change the path to:
DEATH= ..\Small Destroyer\Destroyer Death.wav (for it to work)
But, if you created a "Sounds" folder bafore all of this, and copied all the game units' sounds to it (including "Destroyer" ofcourse) then instead of creating the unit with...
DEATH= ..\Destroyer \DestroyerDeath.wav
you would use.
DEATH= ..\Sounds\DestroyerDeath.wav
So that, the game will look in the "Sounds" folder instead of the "Destroyer" folder for the DestroyerDeath.wav. (Because you copied the sound wav there)
-This way, when you rename a unit (in this case "Destroyer"), you don't have to go back to "Big Destroyer" (or any unit using the same wav) and re-Type the new path in the INI file for the DestroyerDeath.wav sound.
-Because all newly created units (in this case "Big Destroyer") are all using the "Sounds" folder, instead of a units' folder ("Destroyer") to find and use that sound, It doesn't matter if you rename any unit, becasue they are all using the "sounds" folder. Civ3 original units use their respective folders for their corresponding sounds.
It takes a while to Copy and Paste all the sounds into the new folder "Sounds", but you can rename any unit any time and there's no problem about screwing up other units' sounds.
PS: Don't MOVE the sound files from their original unit folders, COPY and PASTE them, to your new Sounds folder. (because the original Civ3 units still use their original folders for the sounds.)

Still confused bout what this should do ... sorry perhaps it is just me- but this would mean that one would have to change ALL ini from a start to have the correct link to the wav file in the "all-unit-sound-folder"??? And as U said, one would have to copy ALL sounds from every unit into this folder !!! Help- alone with the units I have in the game now that comes to 182 ini files, and given aevery unit has an average of 5 wave files to it... n I am integrating more units every now and then in big chunks at once... that makes *ahem* ! :mad: ... this is like going and building a car from scratch just because in the future you wish to give up taking the bus...
BTW. Wrong Forum !!!

It is a good idea if one keep modding to the end of time. ;)
In fact, it is a wonderful idea for those who are creating a mod with lots of new units that might be sharing some of the sound files!
I will move it to creation and customization. :)
