I never had a problem with playing Civ III until after I installed the 1.29 patch. After I did so, I played once with no problems, but since then I haven't been able to load the game past the black and white Infogrames logo screen. Most of the times it doesn't even get that far and doing a CTRL-ALT-DEL tells me that CIV III is not responding. Anyone else have this problem, or any solutions?

It was slowing down the driver hardware accelaration that helped.

Well that didn't last long. I slowed down the video driver acceleration and it worked for a couple games, but now it waon't work again. I've lowered it all the way to "none" but I only once got the game to load past the Infogrames screen (and then it froze at the Firaxis screen). I can't believe I wasted $50 on a game I can't even play!
