I say that we should have the Olympics in the game. We could have an Olympic Comity of all 48 civs that vote on one city to host the Winter/Summer Olympics. We would have both olympics just as in real life and we would also have it occur every two years, alternating between Winter and Sumer respectively. The olympics would give the host city more money (:gold:) and happiness (:)). We could either have the first few olympics in their set cities (Vancouver for 2010 Winter Olympics, London for 2012 Summer Olympics, and Sochi for 2014 Winter Olympics) or we could have them in new cities for those respective years.

We could also have major sporting events that would work like the olympics. For example, we could have the World Cup, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup, the NBA finals, etc.

Why can't we?

Because we don't have anyone who has both the time and ability to program such a feature.

That doesn't do what you described at all. We can add the Olympics as a regular event like it is in that mod, that's a good idea. Maybe add that to the Events thread, so whoever does those will see it.

We just can't time it or have people vote. It will be random.

Can we have World Wonders that are unlocked at a certain turn rather than by a certain tech? This way we could unlock the Olympics Wonders in 2012, 2016 etc....
So both Olympics could work as well as the World Cup.

That's a great idea.

My suggestion is to feature the 4 most important/most viewed sports events as the following:

- Olympic Games (Summer & Winter) and Football World Cup as multiple World Wonders
They should be unlocked by a certain turn. E.g. the Olympic Games 2020 wonder could be unlocked in 2018. The city who wins the wonder race hosts the Olympics. There can be no two Olympic (or World Cup) wonders in the same city.
The effect might be to trigger a Golden Age...would be cool if this Golden Age would not start until the Olympics would be taking place in 2020.

- Super Bowl should be one World Wonder already built somewhere in the US. It makes no sense to make it work like the Olympics above because then the World Bowl 2013 might be taking place in Pyongyang.
This wonder should have this effect:
- more likely to generate Great Entrepreneur
- +5% commerce per broadcasting tower in each city
- +5% culture per broadcasting tower in each city

Maybe once we get our first release we will get more attention and maybe we can get some programmers to do it.

Agreed, this feature will likely have to wait until after version 1.0 before being any more complex than standard wonders.

This sounds so cool though.
