View Full Version : Game Crashes
JFW3rd Aug 25, 2002, 11:48 PM So, I'm playing along in a .bic of my own creation. I reach the year 1150 and the game simply exits. I'm using XP on a 2 ghz P4 chip with 512 MB memory. I have an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with 32 MB on board. Any ideas? Yes, everything is up to date as far as drivers and patches.
Isak Aug 26, 2002, 07:49 AM What modifications did you make to the BIC? - Check the Modification forums, there are lots of things that have to be "patched" for most modifications made, like unit folders for added/renamed units, for example.
JFW3rd Aug 26, 2002, 09:57 AM I made changes to the units, but have "added" nothing. I did make the huge world 256x256. This is the second time that it's happened since installing 1.29f. I've dissabled the cultural and domination victories and have won using both methods.
Isak Aug 26, 2002, 10:58 AM did you rename any units?
If so, you must also rename the Unit art folders and the .INI files found in there - they have to be named exactly as the unit is named in the BIC.
JFW3rd Aug 26, 2002, 11:01 AM Nope, nothing was renamed, just modified. I think a problem like that would have come up before I get to intigrated defense, but maybe not.
Isak Aug 26, 2002, 12:15 PM No, that problem won't appear until you are actually able to build the unit.
If you can upload the BIC here, I won't mind taking a look to see if I can figure it out - and others might chip in too.
Edit: If you have a save file, that might be helpful too.
JFW3rd Aug 26, 2002, 12:47 PM I have both, but the save is larger than 250kb. I've posted both at http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/jfw3rd.zip. If they aren't there, let me know.
Thanks, by the way, this has been driving me crazy.
Isak Aug 26, 2002, 01:03 PM I can't download the files, sorry - It looks like they're not in the Uploads directory.
If you're having trouble uploading, check out Lt. Killer's Faq (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=451074#post451074)
If there's some other problem, just email me (isak@privat.dk) the files.
JFW3rd Aug 26, 2002, 01:07 PM I finally just got them uploaded now. Thanks.
Isak Aug 27, 2002, 05:21 AM ok - I don't have regular Civ3 installed at the moment, but I will do that tonight and take a look at the save game.
Looking at the bic, the only thing I noticed was the settings for Entertainer, Scientist and Taxman - I don't know if they would cause problems though - will hopefully know more once I see the crash happening.
JFW3rd Aug 27, 2002, 06:20 AM I just hope the crash is repeatable!
JFW3rd Sep 07, 2002, 02:39 PM Could I have too many units in play?
Isak Sep 07, 2002, 02:54 PM Sorry, I got distracted and thought I had responded to this
I loaded up the savegame, and pressed the End Turn button, and then left the game chugging away at the AI's turn for 45 minutes, without any response.
It is, as you say yourself, most likely due to the excessive number of units and cities :( If you leave it chugging for longer time you may get lucky that the game eventually passes the turn on to you, but I've seen other games like this where even 2 hours, was not enough.
Sorry.
JFW3rd Sep 09, 2002, 07:57 AM What's wierd is that it moves through the AI turns into my turn. I get through most of my turn and the, boom, back to XP desktop! Very strange. Thanks for your help. This is new with 1.29, btw.
MaddogBC Sep 11, 2002, 07:48 PM i have the same problem at year 1150. it crashes out during the ai turn with an invalid page fault.
this is the first time i've used the multi editor. i did not intentionally modify any civs, but i think the problem is based with the americans because earlier in that same turn i can recreate the crash by trying to contact them. thanks
