View Full Version : Spice Trading

I found Spice trading to be tedious. Is there a mod out there that streamline the process, like showing the prices that nearby known planets would pay for each type of spice, and possibly the ability to do the trading on the same screen (or allow you to go to the planet directly by double clicking on the planet name on the screen)?

Sadly we have no SDK Thunderfall so we can't do anything major. We really only have XML to work with.

I would like to do those things but until EA release the SDK we can't.

ah ok. EA probably has no plan to release a SDK. :(

Yeah, most of our dreams have been steamrolled by the monster that is EA :(

However, us the modders are still making more and more progress, and are trying to get into some of the more hardcoded stuff.

I find the main hassle of spice is 'ducking' into each system to grab it. By golly, I just want to visit the fringes of the empire!

Space Age made my mouse wheel finger hurt.

It does seem a bit silly, but without you having to do it.. would it even be a game?

Its a tedious grind that adds duration to a vapid game.

It's all about the amount of micromanagement preference, I guess.

For me, I would rather not having to do those tedious things over and over again. For example, when I was playing the game again last night, after making more than a dozen cities, I was wondering "why they don't add an automate button that fills out the city structures using my available funds". :)

Because there's nothing else to do! What would you be doing if you weren't building stuff, constantly repelling attack and trading spice, abusing your mouse-wheel finger? Right now, these things are harassing enough that you don't even really have time to enjoy just exploring planets. They should have found more stuff to do on the planet, with the planet, and cut down on the war/buidling crap. Giving trading more depth, giving terraforming more depth, giving alien species more depth... I dunno. What a waste.

Yeah, it's just that I felt like I could zoom in and out faster with the mouse wheel.

I agree. Spice trading in the space age is purely asinine. When I first entered that part of the game I thought they would adopt the same spice trading system as the civilzation age. But nooooo... you have to squat in one of your systems to get the spice, then squat at your buddy's system to sell it to them. Asinine!
If you are going to patch this crap, at least make it when you trade to another empire, you get a steady income every second.
I usually stop playing after the civilzation age.

How the heck did you ever come to like Civ?

Because Civ has the profound depth to make any micromanagement very worthwhile.

If your interstellar drive is in range, they should bring the spice to you. If the storage is full, they should sell the available spice. Maybe to themselves or a nearby ally. It shouldn't be wasted.
