It ain't what you don't know that gets you; it's the things you know that ain't so - Attributed to Mark Twain

I've just learned Monarch (look at my first learning game (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=305450)) and I really wanted to begin a new series, that will both be a learning experiment and (hopefully) an entertaining read.

So, the theme of this series is this famous quote. Here are the settings :

Monarch difficulty
Fractal map
Random climate
Random sea level
Unrestricted leaders
Random personalities

Other settings are the default ones. I play BTS 3.17 without any additional patches or mods.

Our glorious leader :

And the start :

I'll try to play every 24/48h and post detailed reports. Rounds will be between 20-50 turns long. Feel free to attempt shadows, but please post them in spoilers. Information about opponents, events and stuff that I have no knowledge of at the time of my latest save should also be in spoilers.

PS: does anyone know how to change the text above my avatar picture ?

Well I didn't mention it, but both my leader and my civ were randomly chosen. I didn't pick either of them. I agree that overpowered (too synergistic) combinations would make for a boring game, so I'll reject those in future installments of the series. But for now, let me enjoy while it lasts :mischief:

PS: thank you for the avatar info

I played this and gave up I popped 4 techs + 300 gold with my scouts
Techs : Min/AH/BW/Pottery
I also snagged a heavy commerce location and just quit it the game became exceptionally easy after that also it was Normal Speed :D
