What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I agree with turn chats. As someone who became more familiar with the game due to these, i think they should be continued. I owe my political carer here (and in another country, to remain nameless) thanks to two things : A certain Ball and the turn chats.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

I have always been a science minded person. As the oldest of the three running canditidates (12, 13 , 14 (me) ), I have been playing for the longest. As one may recall, I threatened to leave the DemoGame if a non-science civ was chosen. I was a supporter of the Build a SS and Go to 'Poly movement. My original census post read :Aspiring Scientist. It was there from which Almightyjosh pulled me into a province which i will keep nameless and made me head of its science department. When playing Civ, I only play as scientific civs, always get the GL first, and 9 out of 10 times, win by SS (the other 1 time is by Diplomatic). This is why I feel I would make a wonderful Science Department Head.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

Normaly, I use King level (note- a guilty conscines makes me point out my use of warlord. and my losses. though i do have 9 ss wins on king and a diplo on emperor)

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Its a difference of -10% build time and -25% against barbs. Ive done one at Emperor (see reference to Diplo Victory.)

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Im a mac user. Ive always been one. So of course I dont currently have 1.29. However... Im buying a Win Box (XP home) and I have Civ 3 for Windows ready and waiting to go. Just let me upgrade it and Ill be on 1.29.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
Mokra. What else?

Are you familliar with all of our laws?
Yes. I need to know them to make sure my banking polocies are legal.

Do you abide by them?
Yes. All bank laws follow the COS, COL and Constitution.

I conclusion, I say to you,

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I feel they should continue as is, as any citizen and/or deparment leader present can give advice. It also allows for quick spot votes that won't disrupt the flow of the game.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

I've been the president twice and VP once in the last demogame. I also held a department posisition for 2 terms (Trade).

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

Chieftain-Regent. However, I can play Monarch and Emperor with some success.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

With a group setting, you have several people helping to make the decisions. The level of comfort is easier when you have those that are already experienced on Emperor level.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Yes.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

First choice, Bayern or Bavaria (to go with the flow of the game). Second choice, CSX. It's a train logo in my city's (Baltimore) industrial park.

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Not as much as Shaitan. ;) Most of them, yes.

Do you abide by them?

As best as I can.

I think they should continue as is.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
I was Science Leader for 2 terms in the last Demogame. I also know the Tech Tree from heart.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
I normally play at Warlord but have won a few games at Regent, But also had a disabled computer for 4 months to stop me from going higher.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
Yes I do because I know i will have people there to help me.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
Yes I do, but not on a computer with the internet :(.

Running for Military Leader

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I favour allowing the President the latitude to decide which approach suits him or her best. Turn chats are enjoyable, but the game could function perfectly well without them.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

I have no prior experince within the Military Dept itself, but I'm chairman of the Strategic Advisory Committee, post suggestions for military strats there and am very interested in Civ3 military strategies in general.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
As of today I play with Emperor level as my standard difficulty setting :D Before that it was Monarch.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

Since I'm a recent convert to Emperor I'll just quickly say that yes I do feel comfortable playing at that level. Although I have not yet played a game to completion, my ancient era game has been pretty strong so far, which is what matters for this term. :)

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

Indeed I do

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

I've not decided yet. Rest assured it'd likely be a mouthful ;)

Are you familliar with all of our laws?

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

- I believe the game should be as inclusive as possible. Turn chats can be fun and helpful for the President. It also nurtures more communication and role playing between the citizens. That said, there is no substitute for being active in the forums between Turn Chats.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for? What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

- I can count. I love Civ3. I usually play on Emporer level. I hang out in the forums day and night. I don't sleep much, but life as Domestic Leader will be fun.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

- I'm scared anyway. That is why I want to participate and encourage participation from everyone. This will be a great group effort.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

- Yes, I do.

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

- Dog City.

Are you familliar with all of our laws? Do you abide by them?

- I am rather familiar with all our rules. In fact, I am right in the middle of a 3-week course about the Code of Laws.

If I may digress (making up questions I can answer!)...

What makes a good Leader?

- Starting discussion on the domain of your office. It is important to let everyone take part in the direction. I strive to be the starting point of conversation, not the end.

Do you keep in regular contact with the other citizens?

- I hang out in the civfanatics chat quite often. Please stop by and say hello.

Ehecatl Atzin, I'm running for Foreign Minister. :D Yeah me!!

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?
-----Turn chats are the only time when everyone get's to actually play the game (even if the DP is the one looking at it) I think they are as close as we can get to having everyone play it. I think they should be kept as is precisely beacuse it's more democratic and allows people to enjoy the game as a group.

What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?
----I was embasador to Greece during the last game and Foreign Minister during the last term.

What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?
---No less than King (Deity scares me though....hehe)

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?
---- Yes, I'm always open to new playing methods and ideas.

Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?
----Yes...should I not?? :D

If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?
-----OOhhhh....hard question, my first impulse would be to name it something aztec, but since most people get their tounge in knots, probably something in English, or a short, easy to read name like Atlan.

Are you familliar with all of our laws?
----I don't know them by heart, but I do know them.

Do you abide by them?
----As long as someone is looking, yes! lol, seriosly, I do.

If offered a leader position and a governor position, which would you take?
------ Leader position.

If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

I, CultureFreak18, am running for the office of Cultural Advisor.

*A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

I believe the current turn-chats are working out fine. Private/closed door chats seem to limit the 'democracy' part of the game.

*What qualifications and experience do you have for the position you are running for?

Whenever I play Civilization III, I always build all cultural improvements in all my cities. In most games, other civilizations are in awe of my culture. If you see a city in my civilization without a temple or research lab, I've been assassinated.

*What difficulty level do you normally play the Civilization 3 game at?

I usually play Warlord level. I am moving up to Regent in my next game.

*If not Emperor or higher, do you feel comfortable playing at an Emperor level in this game?

It's the only way I'm gonna get better. I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two being your culture advisor and I'll be up to Emperor in no time!

*Do you have a working Civilization 3 game patched to version 1.29?

When it was downloadable on the Civilization III main website, I downloaded patch 1.29. I do have Civilization 3 patched to version 1.29.

*If you are given the chance to name a city, what would you name it?

Jeremiah Hill
Whenever I customize a Civilization, I always choose my made-up Kingdom of the Jeremians. Their capital is Jeremiah Hill.

*Are you familliar with all of our laws?

Yes I am familiar with all of the laws.

*Do you abide by them?

Of course I do.

Thank you Fanatika and GOODNIGHT!

What makes a good leader?

Generally I'd say a good leader is one who invites citizen input, but will not allow themself to be dictated to by a vocal minority. A good leader will explain his or her decisions prior to them being put into practice and be open minded towards the discussion this generates. Ideally a leader should ensure their overall strategy has public approval before taking steps to pursue it.

Question for younger candidtaes: Hypothetical Situation: You totally fail a math test. You realize that this effects your grade in a big way. Which would you do:
A- Study harder, even if it meant loosing forum time
or
B- Let your grades plumit and continue on with the demogame

How do you stand to the proposal of having very small provinces at the start to get to about 10 governors quick and then redesign the provincial borders for having a solid number of about 10 governors throughout most of the game?

Ahh, I see you have found my question. I posted this because i wish to know what others would do. If a time like that should ever occur, I would leave the DemoGame untill i could work up/off the grade.

I support the 10 governors policy. It make the govs sort of like mayors, and then gives them their own province later on. (Of course, we may end up on a remote island on our own and cannot expand until further on)

A good leader listens to the people, acts for the people, and, most importantly, helps the people achieve their dreams. Good leaders need the ability to be active in actually leading the citizenry. A good leader is always there.

*Who would you rather have as a depudy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualifies, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

I would choose the latter. A person who is not qualified shouldn't be running for such an important office. He/she should become a citizen and get the basics down. The person who I don't know, but is qualified, I would rather have. I know the the game will go along better, and plus that'll be an oppourtunity for a new friend.

*Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I am running for the cultural department because of my love for culture. In every city, big or small, size 1 or size 19, will have every cultural improvement available ASAP. I dislike war. I only enter it in a game if my isle is too small or I have to (MMP, they declare it on me, etc.).

*What two positions are you running for? If you got both positions, which would you take?

I am only running for one position, the Cultural Department.

*What victory would you prefer?

I prefer, obviously, a cultural victory. My second would be diplomatic. As you see from question #2, I hate war in Civilization III.

*Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

I do. However, I do not support using more then we need to. If we need that temple to stop a flip, or that spearman to defend our capital, I'm fine with it.

*What is the most important tech in the ancient age?

In my mind, the most important in the ancient age tech is construction. It allows us to build aqueducts, which will allow our cities to grow, produce more trade and shields, and allow us to build cultural improvements faster. We also get fortresses, which could come in handy on a mountain chokepoint. We also get coliseums, which produce a lot of culture and happiness points. If we research construction and build coliseums earlier, then we''l get more culture points for them as we progress.

I'd personally prefer someone who's good at the job. However since the election for Military Leader is not uncontested it my preference is unimportant.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

Because I believe that I could serve Fanatika well in the Military Dept, and would enjoy doing so

What two positions are you running for? If you got both positions, which would you take?

Only running for one position. Military.

What victory would you prefer?

I'd probably incline towards domination or conquest for this game due to the challenge they would present. However a spaceship victory is also always a good way to end a game :)

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

In general, no, and I rarely use it. However I would advocate it for certain situations, such as building a culture improvement in a city recently captured from a high culture civ. It's ultimately better than having to win the city over and over again, or razing it which are often the only alternatives in such cases.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age

That depends on the strategy being used. I have to say that the two techs that are always highly valuable are Iron Working & Writing.
Knowing the location of the iron deposits on your continent is a huge boon when deciding where to build the next city, or which Civ need to be watched and, if necessary, castrated. The swordsmen are nice too :D
Equally, being able to sign RoPs and alliances to improve the attitude of those neighbours you are not currently at war with can sometimes make the difference between life and death for your civilisation.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

I am running for science leader because i love science. im that type of person who learns for fun. I just like science

What two positions are you running for? If you got both positions, which would you take?

I am the (some-what self appointed) head of the RPG Bank. Since that is an RPG title, I can do both. Also, I cant leave it because im the one incharge of the pay roll.

What victory would you prefer?

I am a fan of the peacefull victories (SS, Culture, Diplo), but since we are playing as Germany on Empeor level, a Domination or Conquest victory may be the only way. (Note- I do, though, prefer the peaceful type better)

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
No. All it does is kill innocent citizens to make sure you have a leg up. Thats why The Republic and Democracy are better. Since you pay there, you dont kill.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
Literature. By far. The GL will have more meaning at Emperor level.

No, I would rather have the Citizens get paied overtime.

Iron Working. This benifits both the Industry and the Military. It offers Iron for swords and for other cast iron products.

--I prefer the culture victory, since it takes a whole lot to win it. Culture victories show that your economy and production capability have been strong throughout all time, not like in SS victories, where the only things that matter are science and late production capability.
Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)
--Only in emergencies, for a quick defensive unit, and culture.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
--Literature. The Great Library's affect would be immeasureable in this level, not to mention it's 12/turn culture later on in the game. After lit, I'd say Iron working.

A two part question, answer briefly please: How do you feel about turn-chats and is your position that they should continue as is, or do you favor the concept of private/closed door turn sessions by the DP?

(somehow I missed this one. ;))

Who would you rather have as a deputy, someone you knew and got along with, but who was not qualified, or someone that you did not work well with, but was very good at the job?

Someone I can work well with. Even though they may be unqualified, it's teamwork that gets the job done in the demogame. The deputy can learn from the department leader.

Why are you running for the department you are running for?

Because it's something new for a change. :D I've gotta let SOMEONE take Trade... (tGF is running for President, so I've have to make it interesting there, too. ;))

What two positions are you running for? If you got both positions, which would you take?

I am running for domestic and president. If I win both, I would let the next most qualified nominee in either posistion to become that leader. (wow, that was confusing).

What victory would you prefer?

We haven't done diplomatic yet! :D Being that our civ is the Germans, I think domination/conquest might cause some here to get... 'ideas'...

Do you support pop rushing? (using population to rush improvements)

Only in desperate situations. Otherwise, no.

What is the most important tech in the ancient age?
In higher levels, Literacy. It allows for the Great Library. Knowledge is Power. Iron is just as important (but more so in lower difficulties). Knowing the locations of iron resources means you know which civs you should be wary of, and which civs you could conquer.

The other debate threads have been unstickied, but since there is runoff for one of these elections, this one will remain here for the time being.
