I'm amazed that you managed to do so much with that old 'customization catalogue'. :goodjob:
But I doub't that that this can be made into a unit as it is because many of the frames aren't there.

You see, that 'catalogue' was never ment to be used for unit creation. It was only ment to be a way for Exsanguination to communicate to me what type of unit that he wanted ("I'll have an H4, T2, L5 to take way please" :D ).

The shield for example was just a 'flat' full frontal preview.
What you need, as you have already sussed out, is the full number of frames and the different shield shapes, like this....

.....continued...

So I've taken the liberty of making bundle of all the parts that I think are required to make the 'Mercenary Hoplite' for you. Nothing too difficult; all you have to do is cut-'n-paste the new head and shield onto the original Civ3 Hoplte (I've only included the run animation so far. I'll post the other attack/default/death flics later).

Here what to do:-
1) unzip this bundle into a new folder.
2) use FLICster to open and view the 'Man_Run' flic (by pressing 'Export' and 'Export' again).
3) keep FLICster open, but move it to one side as you cut-'n-paste the new head onto the running man.
4) when you're ready, save your creation and double-click or change the direction in FLICster to see how it looks (try not to make the head 'wobble').
5) when you're happy with it, press 'Export' and 'Export' again. This has now saved it and permanently changed the original 'Man_Run' flic (keep FLICster open, cos we are going to do the shield next).

Side note about shields: I've included the orginial Civ3 HopliteRun flic in the bundle in case you want to make comparisons. You can open this in your current FLICster window or open a new FLICster if you want; either will do.
You'll notice that I've made the SW direction of the 'Man_Run' flic with both the right & left hands visible (you won't believe how long this took me!). So for this direction, try to line up the particular shield-shape with his left hand (make it cover the hand...about 2 pixels should do).

What shield shape to use? Well, I like to number them. And as the SW animation only has 10 frames, use somethig like this:-
Shape 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5 (this is only an example).

For the other directions, I find that using the helmet as a reference point works well (don't ask me why, it just seems to give the most 'realistic' motion). So make frame one look good, then move the shield 1 pixel vertically and 2 pixels horizontally in each following frame. When you get to frame 7, reverse the process (remember, after frame 10 comes frame 1 again).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope all this helps. And if you get any problems, you know where to ask. :D

(one last thing: I know it's easier to just 'mirror' the SW and SE directions to save time....but the figure would look better if he kept the shield in his left hand! Yes, it takes a bit longer, but if you're going to make a unit you might as well make it the best you can. But it's up to you; be creative. It is YOUR unit after all! ;) )
