I want a spy unit to use when espionage comes around. So i was wondering if someone could make a unit like this. In my mind i picture this unit as having a grey or beige suit with a trench coat, and prehapse holding a newspaper for the fortify stance. The attack should be with a hand gun with a silencer or without if its too much trouble. Thanks if you can make this.

Oh yea, the run animation can be the guy running with a briefcase but not a weapon as he is supposed to be covert :).

Once again thanks if you can make this.

That would be a great unit! I have just been using the black paratrooper unit for my spy secret agent unit, but I would love to have a trench coated spy. :D

You can use my original terrorist unit as a base and change the clothes to trench coat. ;)

I already made him carrying a brief case. Only thing is the default show him smoking. :smoke: The attack animation sucks as it was my very first animation back in December :D

That sounds interesting.
But what is the spy able to do? I mean as far as I know it´s not possible to have spies function in the same way as in civ2.
What stats did you give your spies?

Well no, spies don’t work the same way they did in Civ2. But they are an interesting tool to use in Civ3.

I actually have two units, the Spy, available with Dynasticsm (a tech midway through the ancient age that allows you to switch your government from Chiefdom to Despotism) and the upgrade to the Spy, the Secret Agent, which is available with Espionage.

I am using the Assassin animation (the blackened Immortal) for the Spy and the Black Paratrooper Animation for the Secret Agent. (Think James Bond in the beginning of Golden Eye).

The Spy: A/D/M 0/1/2 Bombard 3/1/1 Hidden Nationality and Stealth.
I actually don’t know if the stealth ability does anything for land units, haven’t heard anything on that from the testers. I gave it the bombard ability because I didn’t want them to have an attack value so they couldn’t take over cities.

Secret Agent: A/D/M 1/4/2 Bombard 6/1/1 All terrain as Roads, Hidden Nationality, Stealth, Ranged Attack Animation, Paradrop
The Secret Agent can take over cites that are completely undefended. This semi-replicates the Civ2 spy ability to overthrow a city. They also have the paradrop ability even though Espionage comes before the ability to paradrop. Once you get airports you can paradrop your Secret Agents in.

I would love to see a James Bond type in a Tuxedo or a Trench Coat type ala Inspector Cluseau from the Pink Panther Series.

In addition some type of heavily cloaked figure with a big brimmed hat to be used during the middle ages would be nice.

Caravans and the spy.

I think way the resources are now done I would just love some unit that could make the link without road from city to resource and then to opponent city. Now it's impossible but just think the possibilities of breaking those trade routes without even going close to actual resources.

That spy unit is another must but I just think it's hard to make him do anything but little bit pillage and taking some undefended towns.

What Civ3 is missing really is pirates which are very close to spies I think...I mean the way they work. They are hidden national and having ability to make raids straight from the ships they sail. I have used immortals this far as they quite nicely show some older pirate model.
One of the designs could be adding explorer attack animation with musketeer clothes and hat and possible second attack animation could be firing of pistol from second hand.

I think that assassin made by some was pretty good for spy but I think spying is really hard to put into civ3 as all those things are done without any units...too bad..

Inspector Clouseau played by Peter Sellers is one of my favorites. Goofy humour...but still it strikes me.
BTW I can just imagine short bond theme as wav for that modern spy unit...

My view of the spy for civ 3 would be a unit that had mediocre defence and attack, however it would be able to move through enemy territory undetected. The problem with this is I realized that it would attack all the settlers, mind you that is only if you are at war with the other civ, so making it invisible may not be too much of a stretch with an attack.

I originaly feared that there would be invisible units running all over the place stealing all your units, however since the nationality isn't hidden i guess this wont be the case.

Here is an idea I had that is roughly analogous to the functions of a spy. I have thought that a neat land based equivalent of the Privateer would be a Highwayman unit. I envisioned it looking like colonial rifleman sitting on a horse with a bandana or mask on his face and a brace of pistols. It would be a hidden nationality unit to replace the Assassin and could be used untill motorized transportation replaced the horse.

Unfortunately i am completely inept when it comes to art of any kind so i won't be able to create a unit. however, there is a unit you may be interested in polaris. It is Dark Sheer's Bandit. I believe it is dark sheer's. It is a man on a horse and he has a gun aswell as a large brimmed hat.

The point of a spy in civ 3 could just be an invisible scout so you can see what the enemy is doing

This is a really cool idea, and I am always ready to second anything that might make the DyP better than it already is. I love that mod!

Personally I would like to see the guy in the trench coat. I really like the idea of him reading the newspaper for the fortify or maybe that could be for the fidget and for the fortify he could hide behind a lamp post! And maybe have two eyeholes cut out of the newspaper so he can look through it. That would be great!

While looking for free 3D models I ran across this guy.

Too bad he's not free. The artist want's $18.50 US for a package that includes the model and a bunch of extras. Part of the extras that comes with the model is Bonds Walther PPK. http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/SAGun_tn.jpg

A trenchcoat spy... now that would be cool. Is anyone working on this one?

I think it would be nice if someone recreated the spy from Civ2 into a 3D model

I was thinking of an upgrade to Explorer that is 0.0.3 Treats all squares as Roads. It would be invisible, have hidden nationality, and have radar ability as counter-espionage

It would be a fast pillage unit

I'm new around here, but might this work?

http://www.scottleyes.com/images/spy_walk.gif

I can't test it in CivIII, i don't have the editor (Mac only), but it's based on civ units I've opened up and looked at. I don't know if the flashlight is too much. I figure he can shoot a pistol w/silencer for attack, check his watch for fidget, and still needs a death scene, i suppose. The model's in Poser, so other sequences arent too hard.

Here are a couple of "beauty" shots of the spy:
